FYI sleep centers are not hospitals they may be located within the hospitals. But they are run separately. The only person coming into the room is the technologist to either fix wires that came off, assist pt to unhook to go to bathroom, or putting cpap on. We have all types of pt come through our center. I have worked with a lot of Veterans who have severe sleep issues that's associated with PTSD....they can't wait to get the help...so for those who think this is funny, or want to be ignorant about doing a sleep study that is your choice. You have truck drivers out here falling asleep at the wheel killing people, people driving through their neighborhoods and falling asleep hitting mailboxes etc, factory workers losing fingers because they fell asleep working on machines. You choose whether you want to do your study or not but don't take peoples life with you. Just saying.

This video dates back to 2005. You would think by now they wouldn't need wires anymore, remote sensors attached to your skin that emit radio waves to the technician's console would be the norm.
I am a side sleeper and it seems better now as they let you sleep on your side but at first on your back for configuration. Then they told me when I could turn on my side.
I have my patient sleep all different positions pediatric and adults. The wires are fine you shouldn't worry about it what comes off we know and come in and fix them. but sleeping on your back patients are at there worse that's why it's important to sleep on your back.

I did have to block some people on this for talking nonsense. Sleep studies is a a study when a doctor receives word from a patient about improper sleep. Most of them do occur when you get into your 50s. Somehow when you see all those cables they hook up to you, that it looks though the cables of an old Moog synthesizer. What goes on in the room is once they hook the cables up to you, they are wired into a board which is similar to a MIDI board and it transmits all the information from your body to a computer. I had a sleep study done and I really had 3 of them. One which was about 10 years ago, another one later on and one just this past Friday.
I’m having a sleep study at the flinders medical centre and I just hope the beds are comfortable because I suffer from back pain and fear of heights normally if I sleep in the normal hospital beds I always have to have the sides up or are the beds totally different
Thank you! Wish I had seen this before my sleep lab study. I had no idea waht to expect .. especially the paste in myhair. There was a lot. They said they have showers but no soap or shampoo or towels because over the years people have stolen them. If I had known to bring mine instead of going home at 5:30 with all that paste in my hair which was impossible to brush through and all matted up and homeless looking lol
Katie Samung I always tell my patients before starting the process Dawn dish washing soap does an amazing job taking the paste out because it's a degreaser. Then after wash your hair as normal.
Gonzalo Martínez That’s not what they meant. They didn’t mean that the people they’re testing didn’t have a sleep disorder. They meant they found the bed, room, and pillows comfortable.
It depends on the sleep center... when you see your doctor you can ask him to put in a script for a sleep aid. Sonata 5 mg is a good one it doesn't cause any hallucinations, or feeling sleepy in morning like Ambien sometimes do. But your dr. will know which one will be best for you.
Karen Valinton All they want you to do is try your best to fall asleep. Even if its only for 30 minutes they monitor you. The wires are only checking your brain waves for narcolepsy. But the thing around your chest is monitoring your breathing. The thing they put on your arm and leg is to check for restless leg and arm syndrome. They will see your breathing either way. Even if you are half asleep they can see whats going on. Do not worry but its very uncomfortable.. depends on the hospital of course though
So a dear friend of mine that my family and I took in due to his health problems is about to be having a sleep study in a couple of weeks and two things I was curious about is one will he have time to do Isha prayer? As a Muslim he prays five times a day and praying before going to sleep especially in his religion is very very important. Isha p r Ayer takes about 5 minutes but since he's going in for a sleep study he might spend a little longer. The second question that I have relating to his health is will there be a nurse there? Because he gets breathing treatments every night before bed and he gets hooked up to his feeding pump and also during the day he gets to feedings he will also be having a daytime sleep study. So I was wondering if there are typically nurses and sleep labs to help with those kind of people. My family and I would not want him going without his feedings. Again when it comes to his spiritual routine he is kind of nervous that he won't be able to fulfill his prayer obligations for Islam. And if he doesn't do his five daily prayers unless he's obviously really sick he considers it very bad to skip and if you were to skip prayer the next day he would do nothing else but just sit in his little prayer space and keep asking for forgiveness. So I really don't want him skipping prayer and also I am curious if there will be a nurse to help with his feedings his treatment Etc
First of all, it is so nice and heart- warming that you care so much and pay a lot of attention to your friend's needs and his devotion to His religion. In this day and age where there is so much oppression going on, just reading your comment, and seeing your care and love for your friend is so so sweet! No matter what race or religion or background we are from, we are all the same, and we need to love, care and show compassion to each other. The world would be a much better place if we all did this. Thank you for your kindness and respect. First of all, as for the prayer aspect, yes, we do need to pray 5 times a day. However, your friend hopefully would be able to do this before he gets into bed. Also, if need be, He can shorten the amount of units he needs to pray. For example, the Isha prayer consists of 17 rakahs (units). However, this isn't compulsory to do all of it. Your friend can do 9(rakahs) known as units, and that will be sufficient as this is minimum that is compulsory. As for the morning prayer, we usually need to wake up at the beginning of dawn and pray the Fajr prayer which consists of 4 rakahs (units) and we are able to pray it within the beginning of dawn until the sun rises. This prayer is the shortest, so usually takes about 5 to 10 minutes to pray. You could ask your friend if He is able to ask one of the Doctors there to wake Him up at a time your friend gives as a request. The time varies according to country and location and also the season. Then, if suitable, He can go back to sleep. This may be helpful as it will monitor His sleep after He wakes up and goes back to sleep. I may need to go into a sleep clinic soon and this is what I will have to take into consideration too, so I really hope my advice helps you. As for the question about nurses, I think it will be best if your friend is able to ring the sleep clinic up, and ask if there will be a nurse present there, as Your Friend requires breathing treatments every night, and also requires to be hooked up to His feeding pump and also needs to have feedings during the day. I hope that the Nurses and Doctors will be able to help in regards to this question. If your friend feels comfortable in You asking on His behalf, and if You are able to, maybe You could ring the sleep clinic up and explain it for Him. Maybe that would help. I wish you and your friend all the best and I hope my message helped a bit. Take care.

All in all, how long is the test?a whole night?so I'd report in at evening and be released after like 6 am? Curious I need this done but have dogs so I'll need someone to watch them. Just needed to let them know approx times they need to be at my house. Thanks
judotapout usually depending on center you need to check in 8pm or 9pm. most centers need a minimum recording time from lights out of 6 hrs this may vary but should be less that 8hrs. you can also let them know when you get there that you need to leave early so you can be hook up right away. that 6 hr time is important for insurance reasons or they will not pay leaving you with the bill....so keep that in mind.
Have requested a sleep apnea test from my doc earlier today. With all this Covid going on I'm guessing it won't be happening for a while. I have a really hard time getting & staying asleep regularly what happens if this happens during my test. I've seen in other You Tube clips the room I'd be spending the night in has a TV to watch. Is correct with most rooms ?
In short: no sleep, no study. Bring a sleeping aid with you so you'll sleep and the technician will get a reading from all those sensors. And yes, the rooms have cable tv & remotes; most rooms have thermostats so you can control the level or coolness/heat.

My PCP and wife argued with me to get a sleep study because of sleep apnea. Didn't get it and don't regret it. I did go to the sleep lab but walked out. The thought of being hooked up was bothersome. Being touched by strangers was bothersome. And honestly, if I have sleep apnea it's probably saving me from doing more than I already do during the course of a day. Wake up 5ish every morning and get to bed around midnight every night. And never once fell asleep during the day though from time to time I do get tired. But my wife swears I stop breathing at night sometimes.

My sister's friend died from sudden cardiac arrest due to undiagnosed sleep apnea. This fit, young woman was survived by both her parents, her husband and two little boys. I know if she'd had any inkling something was so wrong with her that she'd be leaving her family, losing her life by her early 30's, she would've given anything for the opportunity you and I still have. Knowing how serious sleep apnea is, I'm wishing my sleep study were tonight instead of 4 weeks from now.

I have slept with my dog so many years that I have to take him on vacation with me in order to sleep a wink. So don't know how it will work out but I wake myself gasping for air n Hubby gets scared cause he says I start gurgling n stop breathing.
Doing one tonight at theVA...wish me luck
How did it go
@@mattmartin3810 it was awkward sleeping with all these wires attached to my head and body. I was diagnosed with a mild form of sleep apnea
@@fidelyo123 thanks for the reply.. how's the anxieties? Did you need the CPAP?
Yeah, I need another sleep study as it is time. I need it in order to get a new machine, and a new mask.
I would like to inform that I have been rehearsing for couple of monthsutilizing this snoring solution t.co/Dre5IfqVTi and I had great results. Snoring ceased following the first two and a half months and I have not snored ever since! Neither the snoring or the dreaded sleep apnea have returned. .
Is it safe to have a study during the pandemic
I would like to know that too, as I had a family member contract covid 19 while in the hospital. I'm scheduled for one today.

i need to have one but cant sleep on my back
I’ve tried everything, short of surgery. Apparently, they recommend double jaw surgery.
Also my blood pressure has been really high lately
How will this work with breakfeeding?
We recommend asking specific questions to those in the lab.

Andrea how did it go??
But, let’s not forget, some people don’t sleep well throughout the night. Like me. I get up to pee multiple times among other disturbances. I am a very light sleeper and hear everything. This wouldn’t work for me.
The last answer was supposed to be true.

I couldn't fall asleep with all that stuff hooked to me.
can someone fake being asleep?
myroom isverydirty
they can tell if you're actually sleep based on your breathing and brain activity.
You can fake it, but they will know it.
No we know... with the eeg wires on your scalp we can tell if wake, N1,N2,N3,and REM ( stages if sleep we score) sleep occur they have characteristics associated with those sleep pattern.
@@aquariusnelson397 what if we have to use restroom
jaime saucedo just speak out tell us what you need extra blanket, A/C adjustment. bathroom we come in unhook you clip the device head box it as all your wires in there and take SpO2 sensor off your finger it cannot get wet. Then you go no biggie. it takes less that 10 seconds to unhook you.
That’s old fashion sleep study 91000
I struggled to fall asleep 😢
I can't imagine how someone could ever fall asleep with all that stuff taped to their head
I was told to go into this dead tired. Don't get much if any sleep the night before. And you can take a zzquill, no harm in that
Amen. I would have to stay awake about 72 hours before going in and walk in practically in my sleep. But is that natural sleep?
They said no nap during the day so I did not nap. I fell asleep easily because I am always exhausted thanks to my severe sleep apnea.
you do what you need to do...sleep apnea can cause death so I would think you would want to better your life.
Is that all this is testing for? Sleep apnea? That's what I wanted to know. I really don't think I have that so I don't get why I'm supposed to have one.
Why did they need to put electrodes on my scrote?
Aww that's cute. They taught that Android how to talk..
I'm going to sleep great, because my husband is going to do this 😬 he's going to kill me when he returns!
Rebecca Saucedo going tonight any updates?
Okay but how can one possibly sleep with all those things hooked up to them?😂
You must love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. You must love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus the Anointed is Lord! Repent and be baptized and believe the Evangelism.
I will not be able to sleep with all those in my body and a camera watching me
Where would my parent be sleeping through all of this?
Most places have a bed for the parents.
Christina Mcclain in the same room?
@@Cara06523 Yup usually.
Christina Mcclain ok great. i’m 13 and they need to see my sleep schedule. is it scary at all?
@@Cara06523 Nah it's just a bunch of things stuck to your head and on the face. The wires are annoying at first but you'll get used to it.
Can a pregnant woman do this study?
Hi Gooci, we recommend reaching out to one of our sleep study locations here for more information.
No
Can I have information on how to find a sleep study in my area?
@@goddessspeaks8463 Google search.
yes!yes! here is the reason why has a pregnant women get bigger it can cause you to snore which can lead to sleep apnea. This can cause the baby not to get enough oxygen or thrive which can lead to pre mature birth etc. I have place pregnant women on CPAP to eliminate those apnea and provide and restore quality of sleep.
Anyone here from a level biopsychology?
Any nurses that we can slee
My PCP and wife argued with me to get a sleep study because of sleep apnea. Didn't get it and don't regret it. I did go to the sleep lab but walked out. The thought of being hooked up was bothersome. Being touched by strangers was bothersome. And honestly, if I have sleep apnea it's probably saving me from doing more than I already do during the course of a day. Wake up 5ish every morning and get to bed around midnight every night. And never once fell asleep during the day though from time to time I do get tired. But my wife swears I stop breathing at night sometimes.
smoothjazz that's your choice. I am sorry that's your outlook to a life saving procedure. You are so lucky to have a bed partner that has witness your apneas. A lot of people don't and they either end up having stroke, heart attack, or die in their sleep. but let me know when you develop AFIB from the sleep apnea. As some point we all will died I personally want to know I did everything the best of my ability to be healthy and I didn't hurry it up. Understand you don't like to be touch but you will either if you are in the hospital or on the slab in medical examiners room...your choice though.
Bama Belle yes, I am glad you understand and take this serious. Yes, there is a small percentage of people that are not over weight can still have sleep apnea that is due to how there neck/jaw are position. I am so sorry the children loss their mother. I know waiting is hard...but if there is any questions I can answer for you please let me know.
