Fifa 16 Advanced Passing Tutorial: In-Depth Guide to Effective Passing and Maintaining Possession

- In this Fifa 16 advanced passing tutorial we go in-depth on how to pass and maintain possession in Fifa 16. This passing tutorial will help you take a good first touch and maintain possession, playing a similar type to Barcelona and tiki-taki.
The important thing with any pass is to face your teammate before applying power. Too often in Fifa 16 people do not face their teammate causing an erratic pass and terrible first touch. It is also important to change the camera settings to something you like. Zoomed out enough you can see players making runs, but zoomed in enough you feel comfortable controlling the player.
The hardest part of passing and maintaining possession in Fifa 16 is when you get around the penalty box. In Fifa 16 defenders have much better reflexes and interception stats. In order to counter this make good use of the driven pass, the new pass in Fifa 16, to make get the ball in tight spaces. This is perfect for getting the ball to your striker. If you want a better first touch make sure to press LT/L2 to protect the ball and control it better.
Situations on whether to use a through ball or regular pass are also often difficult. In order for a through ball to be successful there has to be a ton of space. Don't just try to push the ball up the pitch all the time. Practice effective passing to make sure you can maintain possession.

Like many others here, also my congretulation to this very helpful and precise Tutorial. Every sentence clear and useful. And no loud music ! Many arguments confirmed my own judgement, but it is very good to here it from an expert.
You mentioned the camera setting: did you notice that the individual settings (from 0-20) nearly dont affect the view at all ? This was different for ex. in Fifa13/14. Its a shame that EA is not able to fix it.

Something else to add: Know your players and matchups. Don't try a through ball if your striker is really slow, or against an especially quick defender, etc. So many times down in the crappy leagues online (for I am terrible :p) I see players trying to play through balls to guys like Wilfried Bony or Giroud. Not gonna work, unless the defender is extremely slow or there's *so much* space that anyone could do it.

Hello! Loved the tutorial. I'm not as good as most players in solo dribbling, so my game is mostly built around passing - triangular passing to be exact. I use all the passes you mentioned; I couldn't help but add to this arsenal the L2+X (Or LT+A on XBOX) pass.
The L2+X pass or the Flair Pass is extremely useful, particularly in the box. If you haven't tried it yourself, I highly recommend trying it when near or in the box as opposed to the Through Pass or Driven Pass. If you like it, you can edit your video and add it here.

I agree that flair pass is actually really effective especially to pass the ball to a person directly behind you. You don't have to wait and turn around like you would with a regular pass, they do a quick flair pass

I love the new FIFA, dunno what people were complaining about. You just have to up your actual intelligence of the game, and know some fundamentals about playing the game in real life.
Like it should be a no-brainier that you can't just through ball through the defense with no thought. Or that it helps to look at the player you're passing to. I was reading a post about a guy that was angry that you don't have a good first touch when holding the sprint button.
yeah when it works well its great, the problem a lot of people usually have is the inconsistency with the game and some ridiculous moments

Awesome vid dude! There is a way to just in the moment you receive the ball you change its direction with the right analog do you know? Whats the best way to use it? I know its a very good way to pass trough the defense...
+Guilherme Schumacher I don't use it too much because the timing has to be perfect but if you flick the right stick at the right time he will flick the ball in that direction. It catches you opponent off- guard, great when they are trying to apply pressure.
Try to use men's settings. Use your RUclips power to tell everyone that assisted controls is a ridiculous way of playing.

Is there a way to run at the ball when the pass is too slow? I mean, often I hold X too short and the deffender easily intercepts that pass because my player is standing there waiting for the ball instead going for it. I'm aware of driven pass, but first touch is just horrible most of the times. I want to be able to run torwards the passed ball, is that possible? Thanks!
+Marko Gogic sometimes the game automatically switches your control to the intended receiver. You can also press LB/L1 to switch over to the player and manually make him run towards the ball. Be aware most of the time you do not have the momentum and it takes a while for your player to pick up speed.

when i try to do passes they always go way further than i want htem to why does it do this?
sometimes that happens, many things can cause this. First Fifa 16 is not perfect they try to make it "realistic" so even if you put the perfect amount of power it will be a bad pass. Second, it could be the player, not the best passer won't go where it is meant to. Also, a lot of times EA tries to guess to who you are trying to pass to and guesses wrong. The best thing to do is to try to always square up with the person you are going to pass to and not apply too much power unless needed

Any tips? When I pass my player doesn't even go for the ball, he just stands there and wait for it to get there, I'm new to this game and getting rekt 5-0 every game
that happens sometimes. You have to control the player and manually move him towards the ball. But the best thing to do is do shorter passes. Rather than just passing it up the pitch do some horizontal and shorter passes so that doesn't happen

what do you mean? a ground shot where it stays on the ground and has no air beneath it? I have a tutorial that goes in depth but the main gist is to shoot with less than 1 bar of power

I cant understand the logic of the game, I beat a world class team and i lose agaisnt a profissional that seems to play better than the other... Tackle is hard and attacking its a pain in the ass, i cant open the oppenent defences no matter what type of pass i do.
Take your time and don't sprint too much. You don't have to score quickly. Make sure to watch some of my other tutorials so you can see things you can improve. Make sure to focus on the fundamentals and don't get frustrated

+e redd yes you lose some accuracy. If you want you best chance of an accurate pass stop sprinting and square up your shoulders
