Just getting back into lure fishing after about a 10 year hiatus. Currently in WA and discovering the options over here. Bassdays, Atomics and MMDs are my go to for surface fishing over here. Love the advice and tips John, keep up the good work. Tight lines
I have been trying both, no luck with the splash prawn yet but I have been really entertained by little Tailors absolutely smashing the sugapen, good fun.
Hi John. Spot on the sugapen for anything and everything. The 95 is the one for me the bream and whiting will still go at the larger lure but also a chance of big flathead. I used to use a light leader but now use 12 pound just to guard against losing it to a big flatty. Top water sight fishing is no 1 in my opinion.
Another great lure for the summer and top water action is Jackson risk bait. I call it the master of all top water lures. the way they designed that lure to stand on surface is driving queen fish nuts.
I've been using the sugapen for a while but the splash prawn I purchased after watching your features on it and it has produced the goods. I really like the daiwa slippery dogs. They are very easy to walk the dog with and fish love them.
I have sugapens and splash prawns and love them. But most days i cant look past my berkely pop dog. Subtle action very similair to the splash prawn and only $11. Also landed my first jack of the season on one 👍
@@mylurebox Ive mainly just chased bream and whiting on the flats with them, so I havent really messed with the hooks yet. I like using them when there is a bit of a ripple on the surface it allows the fat backside to drag across the water while the head bounces off the chop like a skipping prawn.
Hi John I headed out on the still slightly dirty Clarence today with an MMD splash prawn to fish the weed beds after watching your channel , great results with some regular hits from small-medium size flathead. I had good runs and what felt like well set hooks but dropped way more than I landed. Any thoughts / tips on this would me much appreciated. Either way it was an epic day on the kayak.
So good to hear you found some fish mate ;) I tend to run a fairly loose drag once they’re hooked. Assist hooks or small singles are options that I’ve used in the past to help keep fish on. It’s worked with Jacks too.
Luckycraft NW pencil in the 52mm or the 68mm and Zipbaits skinny pop 90mm and skinny pop jr 70mm. You can get them at the right price if you look hard enough even used if you can't afford them new.
@@aussie_fishcatcha9583 bro let Mick Molnar know at MMD. I’m sure he’ll look after you if you send him a photo. If you don’t get anywhere in the coming days let me know.
@@mylurebox yeah it still swims fine i think i might have hit something while i was testing in my pool, i don't think i really want to cause a huge stink because it was probably me fault in the end. ps i almost got a decent bream this morning but he came of at my feet with the splash prawn
Hey John what size trick bits to suit the 95mm sugapen? I'm going to get online to order a few. Also I noticed you set up the crossfire 195's with a similar assist setup are they a larger size trick bitz? Cheers
Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it. It’s great to speak to my favourite fishing channel on RUclips. I quite like the skinny pop jr which is similar to a sugapen and they make a surface prawn which i haven’t used. Their colours are very aesthetically pleasing much like Bassday.
our warmest water in summer way down south is as warm as your winter water makes we wonder why you guys don't get surface acton all year round!...been catching fish on the surface in winter here although a lot more casts between fish they still slurp in the cooler months.
classic should of replied in Portuguese , makes you wonder how he understood the vid as long as he enjoyed it . Can ya do some more vids on refitting your fav Jack lures out eg. hooks and splits cheers bro
Another one worth a mention is the Jackson Ebi Panic. They come with assist hooks and cost the same as the MMD's.
Thanks for the mention mate 👍🏼 Stoked you like them!
Huge fan of Em Mick. Looking forward to giving em more of a run at the Jacks this season too
mylurebox cheers mate, few photos already coming in of some nice Jacks on the splash prawns 👍🏼 think they are going to smash it this summer!

Me too mate. The 95 does it all eh. What a lure ;) full hall of famer status eh

That’s so good to hear. I love em all but hve a soft spot for those prawns for the Jacks I’ve pulled on em for sure.

Nice video as always. I really like the river2sea bubblepops and nomad dartwings.
Interesting about the Dartwings. I’ve got a couple and gonna have to give em a bit more time ;) do you upgrade the trebles at all?

@@mylurebox thanks for the advise John I’ll give that a go next session 😎
something that's worth looking at is the zip baits skinny pops jr, cost about the same as sugars and combine the walking action aswell as the pop
Hey John, the Lucky Craft Sammy's are pretty good on the surface, walk the dog style. They cast like a bullet too.
Zerek Skittish dog. i've caught 18 Barra on them this year, it's my go to top water lure.

G'day John, in your opinion Is it worth fishing topwater if there are no prawns in a system?
Topwater is without a doubt the best and most exciting way to catch a fish. If you have not tried it, you really need to give it a go!
Love this comment mate. It’s almost unbelievable to watch some days hey. Bass are classic fornit too eh
Addictive. Sometimes I'm not all that upset if I don't hook up... as long as I get that big surface hit.
Great tips as always 👍 really appreciated
Thanks for tuning in Graham ;) good to hear
Jackson ebi panic is the way to go for me, I usually get flatties, whiting, bream and tailor on those. (I also love to use sugapens!)
Awesome to hear Flynn. They’re a great lure hey
Hey lure box I snapped the end off my splash prawn and now it actually catches more fish than before
Great Video! Where do you buy your sugar pens and splash prawns no where seems to sell them?
Daniel Cunningham bcf has sugarpens
Splash prawns are on a lot of websites. Ottos tackle world is where I buy them.
hay mate what MMD splash prawn colour should i get for a all rounder?
Go for natural colours mate. That greenish one I went it legit too
@@mylurebox thanks mate, i think ima get the lime tiger
@@mylurebox we just bought a splash prawn and the cup on it snapped within the first few casts

Atomic Hardz poppers are not bad John 👍

LewySayer most people use size 10 trick blitz hooks, they work great for me
@@JT-vm5ww thanks fella
I’ve used some decoy or cultiva assists on the Crossfire. Another interesting option is a swinging treble on 40lb fluorocarbon 1/2 inch down
@@mylurebox Thanks John 👍
I tried assist hooks but got sick of them tangling on the front treble
Do you use any of the zipbaits brand lures John?
I haven’t for a while mate. Are there any you suggest I get my hands on ?

Where can you get those splash prawn lures from?? I live on the GC
BAZZA Smith Anglers Warehouse have them in or MMD Website.
Gold coast fishing tackle on brisbane road in biggera waters has them. 👍
