- Sky News host James Morrow says Francesca Albanese’s National Press Club address on Tuesday was “incredibly smug” as she “declared something to be the case” and wouldn’t tolerate anyone challenging her.
Ms Albanese is the United Nations Special Rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territories and she claims Palestinian civilians are at “grave risk of genocide”.
She appeared on Q+A on Monday and made a speech at the National Press Club on Tuesday.
“I thought the performance at the Press Club … [was] incredibly smug,” Mr Morrow told Sky News Australia host Sharri Markson.
“I would be really curious to know who there was applauding her when she gave that really smug answer and were any of the press gallery … giving her a round of applause for that.
“The whole point of her shtick … is this sort of unanswerable bullying smugness where she declares something to be the case and then doesn’t brook anybody saying anything else and challenging her with alternative facts or, as I would call it, reality.”

Perhaps the media were attacking a 'disproportionate smugness' in relation to the conventional and standardized smugness that the media employ in the accepted 'balanced' reporting of the Israeli - Palestinian conflict.

I am guessing she read the “Convention on the Suppression … of Apartheid” as she suggested the journalist should do so. But as every policy mentioned under Article II of that convention does not apply to Israel, I am guessing she did not understand it. Oh well. I suppose we get the UN representatives we deserve.

The position this woman holds is United Nations Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories - she is well placed to provide evidence of war crimes in Gaza because of her access to information there. Israel however doesn't allow her to actually enter Gaza because of concerns that she will have further access to information of human rights abuses by Israel.

I agree the hysteria is ludicrous even for Sky news. The lack of critical judgement in differentiating anti-Jewish sentiments with legitimate criticism of Israel is also hysterical and unhelpful and will create more unnecessary fear in the Jewish community. They claim Jewish people in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney are afraid to even leave their homes. If that is true, it is only because of the unnecessary paranoia SkyNews is creating. There hasn't been a single serious issue in these areas. Not one. If there was it would be all across the news.

The only reason their terrorist act was as successful as it was is because the Israeli intelligence and security forces were complacent. Israel does have the means to ethnically cleanse Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank. And some of their politicians talk openly about doing it. The current bombing campaign in Gaza is the textbook definition of ethnic cleansing.
