- Pea shoots are delicious and are one of the few crops that can be grown both indoors and outdoors. This video covers both methods and what I love about growing pea shoots is that they're not only fun but also very productive.

We tried this a few days ago with random unpeeled dried peas from the store. Worked like a charm and they taste really good! Thank you for the great tip!
It's my pleasure :)
Great way of raising fresh greens in the middle of winter to enhance salads
Went to several health shops to buy peas as the supermarket I went to didn’t have them. Found them in Amazon for 78p a box so grabbed 2. Can’t wait to try this out. Love the taste of pea shoots. Great video ☺️
I would love to see more videos with tips for people with just a windowsill, a balcony and love for plants :)
Thank you for your advice, I was surprised a box of dried peas will grow!!!!!! Can not wait to go to the shops and find a few boxes. I think I will plant some each week for continual pea shoots to put in our sandwiches and I hope the kids will snack on then too. Thank you for helping us to save money and teaching us the healthy way .I appreciate your subtitles so that I can follow what's being taught 🤖
Great tip Huw. Many thanks.Your enthusiasm has motivated me to fill my tiny garden with containers. (30). I've just planted kale, Swiss chard, lettuce, potatoes, onions, peas, (beans soon) radish, leeks, Bok Choi, carrots, and my tomato seedlings are doing great (under grow light). And thanks to your instructions, my (garbage bin) compost is working perfectly for the first time -- ready in three months. Wow! Can't wait for your next video. My vegetarian friends -- visiting me here in BC from Taiwan this summer -- will be pleasantly surprised.
Yes more window gardening please! Could you do something specifically for college dorm rooms?
I loooove pea shoots. I saute them in just a bit of oil, garlic, and salt. I've been purchasing the pea shoots from the grocery store, but lately the quality has been very poor: old and tough cuttings. Thank you for this video. You've encouraged me to grow my own. I'm excited!
if youre still eating these id HIGHLY recommend adding some chicken or mushroom bouillon. My friend introduced this dish to me and i kept trying to make it but it never turned out as addicting as his, then he told me this secret. Its what most Asian chefs add to their veggies and then leave out of the recipe books :P
Also dont add salt if you add the chicken bouillon, that stuffs already packed with salt. Id usually add like 1/4th of a cube per colander of shoots.
My sprouts are about 3cm tall now can’t wait to harvest. I bought from the shop where they sale grains and spice soo much cheaper than buying the pack of seeds. ❤❤❤
Love the idea. Stir fry pea shoots are the best!
Your garden looks great. Looking forward to future videos on windowsill gardening
Excellent thanks for showing me how to grow pea shots I’m planting them today as they taste really good and I love putting them on a salad sandwich 😁👍
Thanks Huw for the tip. Looking forward to grow pea shoots. Bought 2 kg of snow pea seeds online. Quick and easy to grow. I face empty shelves in the supermarkets.
Hope this goes (went?) well, if so pls share
@@contestwill1556 I did first harvest. It was so good. I think I bought too much seeds 😂 I will grow it in the ground in Spring. You should try it. It is so easy to grow microgreens.
Thanks for the tip. Just bought some pea shoot seeds, but will also try with dried peas from supermarket as you suggested.
Great for the tips, I didn't know we can eat like that, thank you
My pleasure:)
Yes, you can eat it raw as salad or you can stir fry with garlic and salt.
Great idea, growing them inside. Thanks.
Top tip Huw. Saw you were on The One Show last week too...well done...
Cool thanks! I'll definitely give this a try!
Lovely video. Thank you.
Always learning. Thanks so much 😊
I have tried it and its so good thank you
Exactly what I was looking for thank you!
Brilliant Huw!
Almost a microgreens way of growing.
Steve
Fry the tender pea shoots and garlic in a wok ... my single most favorite Asian vegetable dish. It's expensive in any Asian restaurant, but growing your own pea shoots is very easy!
Wonderful
In the UK Poundstretcher sell Batchelors peas for 39p, or Tesco, Sainsburys, Waitrose, ASDA or Morrisons do them for about 50p
Can it regrow after harvesting? Thank you.
I was wondering the same. Did you ever find out?
Who would have thought just a box of dry peas would supply weeks (or maybe months) of fresh shoots? Do you need to transplant them if you only want the shoots, not peas ???
One question, after harvesting will they keep growing or that's it?
Thanks for your videos!
Is that a cut on your right cheek? Hope all is well. As always, amazing gardening ideas, especially as the sprouts we get in the stores are notorious carriers of E. coli. I’m looking at other ideas too as I love sprouts on my sandwiches!
Edward Noble , YES, my concern as well with ecoli, or salmonella, etc.
Thank you!!
Great video .
I will try this year thanks
Great video
This is awesome thank you 🙏🏼
Thanks !
Hi! I am just about to start this. Thank you for your video! When you cut off the tips will the peas grow shoots again is them a soluble feed?
Need advice on where to find dried peas? The only ones I can seem to find are split peas and I'm guessing those won't work. Maybe they are in a different aisle? Help a girl out!
Know this is an older comment but if you are still looking I found them in Asda. Weirdly not my big Asda but a smaller one. Split peas don't seem to work when I tried them.
@@nativeenglishpaul2836 I was able to find it but when I grew them, it didn't quite work out.
@@pr3ciousara oh that's a shame. I'm going to try it this week.
Hi Huw, would the pea shoots regrow once they've been cut in the container method?
after harvesting will they regrow for a second or third harvest ?
thks Huw
Thank you for sharing
GT GT information and update plus tips thanks for your time 🐞🐦👍👍👍👍
Wow!
❤❤❤❤❤
If you do the indoor window sill method can you still pinch out the tops instead of cutting them to increase the yield? Thanks anyone...
Hi! Good morning.
How many harvests can you get from the same pot?
I didn't know you can eat the shoots! When you trim them, how bushy do they get? Do you still have to stake them?
Can you grow them from fresh peas.. if yes, do I have to dry them and how to dry them before putting in soil! Thank you
After you pinch them off to eat do new plants grow from the same roots and base?
If so about how many harvests do you get from each plant?
Good question. I wonder that also
Question for you Hew; With pea shoots being grown in compost, is there any danger to eating the pea shoots as far as bacteria, or?? from the compost? is there a proper or improper c9mpost, or earth that one should not use for growing raw veggies like these? please let me know your thoughts. Cheers, Craiger
Every gardening video I watch, everyone who uses compost says the veggies don't even need to be washed before eating (raw). There must be something to it.. lol
May i learn how much hours it should stay with water in the glass?
Can we do this with asparagus
Which other edibles grow well in window sills? Thank you!
im new to this but in my limited knowledge spring onions and cress, cherry tomato plants too.
I did this .. threw a whole bunch in some potting mix soaked it n left it outside.... It worked they look exactly like his. But I hate the taste!! 😂
👌👍
Are these cut and come again? How long would you be able to do this for on a windowsill? I'm new to growing veg.
around the same as the outdoor as long as you dont cut it too low
Can pea shoots be rooted to grow into another plant?
Probably a stupid question but can you let these grow out to actual peas with sticks in a pot?
Do they keep growing after you cut them?
Yes!
just a silly question from a meet eater: what part of the shoots do you actually eat? (sorry again)
Is this a joke? I also eat meat lol
Not at all. Andre
I've tried this and it just doesn't seem to work!! Sometimes I get nothing and other times, I get a white fuzzy stuff all over the seeds that have barely sprouted. WTF am i doing wrong?!
Do dried split peas work as well? Thanks
The germ that will grow into a plant has been destroyed when splitting
@@redcurrant2023 does it has to be dried not fresh?
@@Sakuraigi fresh peas have not yet started their growth. If you open one you will not find any sign of a new plant. If your peas are fully grown and getting to the stage of drying, you can set them in a warm place and allow them to mature. If you want to know if they will grow or not, set a few on a damp paper towel and place in a zip lock bag that is kept unsealed. Keep the towel damp. In 3-4 days look at the peas and you will see signs of growth. They are good to go or just get some dried peas and bingo!
no danger mate its this easy?
Thanks!
