- First Baptist Church in Damascus, VA, had prepared all year for the Operation Christmas Child packing season by collecting or crafting toys for their annual shoebox packing party. However, when Hurricane Helene rushed devastating floods into Damascus, the room where all the shoebox items were stored was washed out, and all the gifts gathered this year were ruined. In the neighboring town of Glade Spring, Glade Spring Baptist Church heard about the tremendous loss First Baptist Church was facing. Both churches came together to support one another after Hurricane Helene and host one big shoebox packing party to help First Baptist Church heal after Helene's devastation and share the Gospel with children worldwide along the way.
