AIMPLB opposes SC verdict which grants maintenance rights to divorced Muslim women

  • In a landmark judgment, the Supreme Court on Wednesday said that an illegally divorced Muslim woman is entitled to maintenance from her husband under Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc). Reacting to the SC statement, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board has said that the Supreme Court's decision is a repetition of the Shah Bano case. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board will file a review petition on the Supreme Court's decision. They have called the Supreme Court's decision an interference in the Sharia law.
