I really enjoy watching someone else enjoying drinking whisky, had a holiday on Islay when I was young (er) many years ago and one of my favourite memories of the holiday was the smell wafting out of the distilleries in the nearby village, one of my favourite holiday memories all time
You either love it or hate it. When I first tried it, it was the smoothest scotch I’ve ever tried. I immediately noticed the “Smokey” notes and the cold vapor after taste. When you have the strong sharpe bite gripping your tongue you are taken back and you immediately want more. I love it! Definitely my top favorite scotch drinks.
Bought a bottle on a whim, even getting the "it's peaty AF" warning. Had to try it. After the initial taste / getting acclimatised, I have to admit, this whisky rewards you for drinking it slow. The aftertaste is so nice and smooth, it's crazy.
Started drinking whiskey a month a go at 44 years old. Imagine that. Just opend this one today. I knew pretty soon i liked the peated stuff. WAUW WAUW WAUW
This is the heavy metal of Scotch, so smoky and deep. I really like it a lot! Especially if you drink it with BBQ or steak, it pairs SO well with beefs.
I have only tried one whiskey and for some reason bought Laphroaig 10. At first I thought I wouldn't be able to drink it ... all I could taste was smoke and bandaids. Now I taste all the notes behind the smoke .. it's the best. and it's suuuuuper smooth with no burn at all. Absolutely love it .. it's so interesting!
I like how he was about to go into full detail about the guitar but was like “yeah this is gonna go over people’s heads” bc I’m the same way with guitars lol
Drinking Laphroaig 10 tonight on the rocks in a rocks glass. Omg. I love Ardbeg but I think Laphroaig 10 is the King. Happy to join the club. If you drink it too then your my peep as well. Cheer's Everyone
Haven’t had Laphroaig 10 in decades, been drinking 1/4 Cask, 18 & Triple Wood. I remember 10 being really harsh and thinking it could singe my nose hair. I got a bottle today and either it or I have changed because I now find it absolutely smooth & delicious!
Haha, what a description Love it Phillip 🥃 I had this today, after a long time, and all I got was the charcoal and bandaid lol Maybe my palette was off or something 🥲
Today I drink Laphroaig for the first time while watching this. It's crazy how the description is accurate kKsjs I still don't know if I like. I know that I don't hate, and that surely have a unique profile... Something like: hate or love, but surely you will remember me
WOW - my first dram. I did not think I liked peaty/smokey - but what a beautiful love story this is to the taste. Your Louisiana / blues description really hit home for me. I am amazaed at how much I like this. In the last few days, I have tried Col EH Taylor, Hibiki Harmony, Blantons, Highland Park 18 year, among a few others, and I dare say this just may steal the show.
Just bought this as my first scotch. Very impressed. The aroma instantly got my attention and the flavors were intense and yet smooth, developing into more complex profiles in the aftertaste. As one commenter stated, this scotch rewards those who drink it slowly. It's interesting to notice the different flavors as you go.
This was the first or second Scotch I ever had. Did a flight with my old man at a whiskey bar. I fell in love right away with the peat, which I've been told my friends who are just getting into Scotch can be quite off-putting. Laphroaig 10 will always have a spot on my shelf. You never forget your first (except when you should).
Opened a bottle tonight….love it! 😃👍🏻 bbq brisket finish with fruit undertone. Love it! Strong smoke flavor but fades quick upon finish too. I enjoyed it for a scotch whiskey 🥃 I drank mine the same as in this video. I’d buy another bottle and recommend. Enjoy! Thanks for sharing.
I am trying my first ever glass of Laphroaig 10 while watching this video. The first sip seemed like 2 different smoke flavors. The first reminds me of the smell when you check meat on the smoker and that thick humid cloud of seasoned smoke just hits you and the second taste/smell reminded me smell of a nascar stadium: fresh burnt tires, but in a good way. This stuff is awesome!
I'm kinda a beginner to scotch whisky. I also live in Sweden and with the heavy taxes we got they are quite expensive. But Laphroaig 10 is now one of my favorites since it's soo diffrent from the other ones i've tried. Tried mostly speyside and highland whiskys before this one and i kinda thought all scotches are like those. Until i tried Laphroaig and the world kinda opened up.
So, after exploring Irish for a couple of years, thought it was time to check out Scotch. Just bought my first Scotch, and so glad I went with the 10. Was so much less overwhelming than what I expected from the intimidating hype. Thanks Tribe
Just started my first bottle. Was wishing to get select as well, for comparison, next month for sure. Binging through this channel since a week, I gotta say, great review on this one specifically, what a symphony, not only the bottle, but the words. ⛵🚣♂️🌊 great to drink with you guys, thanks a ton. And cheers🍻
I just got into Scotch this year, first one was Glenfiddich 14 single malt in a bourbon barrel. Then did bunnahabhain which was so good I didn't think I would find one I would enjoy more; until I was at my moms she had some of this. I just bought a bottle and it's as good as I remember.
I've had a few bottles of this one. Really love it. I had some with an orange dessert one time, and then for the rest of the bottle I could taste this orange overtone. I guess with these complex whiskies a lot of subjective factors come into play. Each bottle has been slightly different. I think there is something that is known as batch variation that is effected by weather etc. and subjective factors like what you eat with it, general physical condition, diet etc.
I just tried this for first time and really liked it and today I picked up Ardbeg 10 and great too. I always search for videos you've done on different whiskeys and scotches and I go from there! Thank you for knowledge. And I wasn't a scotch drinker.
I can't believe on this price point how you can get such a nice whisky as this is it. Just unbelievable how much nicer and interesting like other Highland or premium blended is. Worth a dram and two, three etc
I got my first bottle of this. It took me awhile to put into words what the nose is on this, but I narrowed it down. If you have ever smelled wires or a circuit board getting hot. That’s it! I also appreciate your interpretation of this. I get it!
Just bought it today. After reviewing some of your videos and checking local options i have decided for this one. I tried before Lagavulin 12 and 16 and love them both. Now i wanted to try this one. Being full bodied and smoky and from Islay as well, i assume i will like it too. I made a list of around 10-12 that I will try and the idea is to get one each month :) Thanks for your great content!
Another great video- I'm trying Laphroaig 10 for the first time while watching this and it's the first whiskey in my new journey where I can actually taste and smell all the notes you've explained Daniel thank you - I've arrived!! Weirdly enjoyable eventhough I don't associate the smell or taste with anything edible.............I've entered a strange and wonderful world of magnificent bastards!
One positive side effect of lockdown in the UK is that from being a whisky virgin, I've manged to work my way around the Scottish whisky regions. Today I'm nearing the end of a Laphroaig 10 and it's delicious.....Great vid 👌
Laphroaig 10 is my favorite whisky. I was in NOLA last week on the swamps. Was in Frenchmen Street listening to some Jazz and Blues. Damn, you're spot on
Just discovered Laphroaig 10. Thank you for the blues guitar analogy. I think you're referring to an open G tuning combined with the brine and band aid, dirt road, almost tequila-like taste 😂. Can't explain it any other way, but love it. 🎸🥃❤
Just amazing, bought it in iraq for 50$, couldn’t believe the reach taste... after finishing the bottle, I just take a sniff of it from now and then and it all comes back.
Hello Good Sir - I truly hope you get to read this : ) I have just recently joined you youtube channel and very much enjoy to good reviews and laughter/banter between you and your friend! Soooo I noticed you occasionally smoke a Cigar - I have a suggestion if I may - Order yourself a cheap Corn Cob pipe and order yourself a tin of Rattrays Red Raporee tobacco. Its a Scottish tobacco. Now pour yourself a Laphroig and even if you dont want to smoke the tobacco - smell the tin note and prepare to have your mind blown!!!! lol - Stay happy you good Sirs - Jason UK
Back in the day I went to sea with the Navy in a County Class LST that was driven by two locomotive Diesel engines; so diesel smoke was prevalent. One evening, while at the helm, we were traversing some very heavy seas. When we would ‘fall’ off the crest of a wave the bow would bury into the trough with salt spray everywhere. You could actually taste sea salt and diesel smoke ! A very intense time at sea as that shallow draft ship was tossed about. If a moment could have a taste to it Laphroaig10 would be the taste of that evening at sea. ! An exquisitely intense scotch that brings that memory with every sip !
K, So I drink this at a bar two days ago and instantly fell in love with it. I am a blues singer and songwriter from Louisiana. Once I heard your description, I understood why I liked it so much.
Just opened my first bottle, I am just not tasting how people can find Laphroaig difficult to drink or off putting. I really enjoy this flavor though. Wow. This is my second single malt Islay, I started with Bowmore 12 which is definitely a lot more mellow, but I feel like this is a nice step up with 6 points higher proof.
Is there a better whisky than Laphroaig 10??!?? I love Lagavulin 16 and a talisker 10 but am yet to find anything that I’d rather have more everyday and even on occasion than Laphroaig 10. Love everything by Bruichladdich including octomore but I just can’t beat Laphroaig!! What a drink!
The Laphroaig event at Seven Grand with John Campbell and Simon Brooking was legit amazing! And I'm more of an Ardbeg guy. I wonder if it was because everything we tried was cask strength?
Drinking the same thing and this is why I looked this up. I looooove the description of the gulf coast. It stinks lol but I totally got that from my dram.
I’ve hated whiskey for years, but liked Elijah Craig and Ild Granddad Bonded. Finally put the money out for Laproaig 10… as a Tequila/Mezcal lover, I loved it on the first sip
Ok….at age 58 finally tried a laphroaig 10…..initial thoughts….”Who poured iodine into my burnt seaweed”????? Even on the nose the aroma of “Old Doctors Office” was hard to get through…. Now at 43%… the ethanol was not overpowering and the peaty smoke finish was pleasant….once i got past the medicinal aftertaste…
Sitting here sipping on some Larceny while listening to your musical description of this Laphroaig, and what comes to my mind is ZZ Top's LaGrange. Not exactly steel resonator, but now I really wanna try some Laphroaig 10!
I just started into my first bottle of Laphroaig 10, last night, after seeing so many reviews with high praise on this channel. I enjoyed my first taste and I'm curious as to what the rest of the bottle will eventually bring, but I can't help wonder what is wrong with my nose. No matter how much time I allowed the pour to air, I always came back to tempera paint for the smell. Fortunately the tasting brought out the earthy, peat and smoke - not paint. lol Not sure if anyone else gets that same reaction for the smell, but I would be curious to hear if it was similar for anyone else.
Hi. Another great video. Is this Laphroaig anything like the Bunnahabhain? Asking you describe it with links from the sea and briney? Thanks in advance for any comments... Dan
im a total whisky noob, but i have cooked almost everyday for about 12 years at home and developed a taste for rich, bold flavors. somehow, i had a hunch that i would love peaty smoky scotches, but was hesitant, as i was bombarded from every side with "its not for beginners, you have to get more experience to understand.." well i saw laphroig and i bought it and i fucking love it. bold, interesting, barbecue-y, ... only thing I mind is that they color it with caramel and I can taste the caramel in every whisky they put it in. it has that one same note which jameson, auchentoshan, glenlivet and some blends have and it throws me off - i think it would taste much better and cleaner without the irritating note of that coloring. other than that, this is a fucking excellent whisky, my first peaty smoky bomb and I cant wait to try other ones!
I bought a bottle of it, but all I got from it was the alcohol and an iodine taste with such a low amount of smoke that it was more like someone thought really strongly about smoke while pouring the glass rather than that the whisky was peated. Is it possible I got a bad bottle? I know cork rot is a thing, but I've never heard of a bottle just not having any flavor to it.
The music analogy is very apt. Love me some blues and I think the comparison does it justice. Idea: let’s revisit this idea and do a Collab on the “Sound of Whiskey” -Jules (longtime whiskey vault fan and music producer based out of the northeast)
I just bought a Laphroig 10 and the bottle says 70cl (700 ml) and 40% vol. The one from the video is 43%, why is that? Thank you for the video! Regards from Spain!
I'm a usual Jameson drinker, not a whiskey expert whatsoever. Been wanting to try this for a while but not sure I'm going to like it. I tried Aberlour before and wasn't a big fan of scotch. Is this something you guys would recommend?
So i was a speyside scotch drinker, until i tried this. Blew my mind. Drink it slow let all the layers come out. Pair it with a bbq tritip or a good steak oh jeeeez....
I heard Andrew Rae describe Laphroaig 10 as 'Tire Fire Scotch'. I heard that before I first tried it. That was the first thing I tasted the first time I tasted it. I think it's my only choice of Islay scotch.
My first expensive scotch was Johnny walker blue and while not as smooth, this stuff is far superior in my opinion and for a fraction of the price! I thought I liked blended scotch more but after tasting this I believe I prefer single malt now.
Few months ago My friend invited me over and that was was when I had my first scotch. I’m usually a cognac guy. He had johnnie walker blue and I fell in love with it and shortly after I bought two bottles within 3 weeks but I said to myself let me stop before this gets out of hand because I know how I can get once I start going on a binge. It was $170 at Costco compared to the $225 it was sold at the state liquor store but still it’s an expensive drink and the brand is all your really paying for. I’m like there’s got to be another alternative that has better value and I keep hearing about this laphroaig 10 so I will give it a go
I will never understand how this scotch finishes so smoothly considering its aroma and initial flavor. A truly impressive creation.
It really is. It captures the area it was made in perfectly.
Getting over COVID
Laid in bed with a bottle of Laphroaig 10
I have got my taste back
Cheers lads
Hope you woke up
And instantly blew it out again haha
The scent of this drink is astonishing. Really screams at you when you get that first wiff
I've tried different whiskies over couple of years and this is my favourite one! With a cigar it is even better... and with some blues music.
Howlin wolf for me!
I really enjoy watching someone else enjoying drinking whisky, had a holiday on Islay when I was young (er) many years ago and one of my favourite memories of the holiday was the smell wafting out of the distilleries in the nearby village, one of my favourite holiday memories all time
Today I bought my very first bottle solely on the recommendation of this channel. I'm a happy dude.
*Sipping on some right now and I’m in smoky heaven.*
My favorite Scotch! Once you go Laphroaig, you never go back!
Ardbeg?
@@JAF2991 any recommendations? ive tried the 10 but wasnt as attached as i was to laphroaig
@@nanobot1497 try the Wee Beastie, it's cheaper and has a more aggressive smoke to it. It's my favorite Ardbeg.
@@JAF2991 Thank you Bruv!
Laphroaig and Lagavulin are incredible
This whisky is just bomb. Takes little bit of character to love it, but it is so good
I miss this candid type of videos from Daniel. I do enjoy Rex's contribution, the Daniel being Daniel is more natural.

After the initial taste / getting acclimatised, I have to admit, this whisky rewards you for drinking it slow. The aftertaste is so nice and smooth, it's crazy.
This is the best whisky I have ever tried!!!

I remember having this for the first time. It was a wonderful experience. I found it to be really good especially if it was a tinge warm.
The blues is exactly what I felt when I drank this (and therefore became my bedside drink), glad I'm not the only one!
I have watched so many of your videos and these advent calendar music connections to the whiskey is unimaginably helpful for me understanding them.
This whiskey reminds me of sitting by the fire when I was little. The taste is top tier.
This brings me to the time I smoked Lakia pipetobacco. Nonsmoker today...
Drinking Laphroaig 10 tonight on the rocks in a rocks glass. Omg. I love Ardbeg but I think Laphroaig 10 is the King. Happy to join the club. If you drink it too then your my peep as well. Cheer's Everyone
the first sip always feels like a punch, so aggressive, absolute favorite
Haven’t had Laphroaig 10 in decades, been drinking 1/4 Cask, 18 & Triple Wood. I remember 10 being really harsh and thinking it could singe my nose hair. I got a bottle today and either it or I have changed because I now find it absolutely smooth & delicious!
It's like a hunk of charcoal, wrapped in a Band-Aid, and dipped in honey. Delicious!!! A splash of water really opens it up too.
Haha, what a description
Love it Phillip 🥃
I had this today, after a long time, and all I got was the charcoal and bandaid lol
Maybe my palette was off or something 🥲
I was already a big fan of Laphroaig 10, but having a dram while watching this review made me love it so much more. Great review! Spot on.
Today I drink Laphroaig for the first time while watching this. It's crazy how the description is accurate kKsjs
I still don't know if I like. I know that I don't hate, and that surely have a unique profile...
Something like: hate or love, but surely you will remember me
We love you too Daniel!
Oh, and all hail ardbeg, lord of islay.
WOW - my first dram. I did not think I liked peaty/smokey - but what a beautiful love story this is to the taste. Your Louisiana / blues description really hit home for me. This was the first or second Scotch I ever had. Did a flight with my old man at a whiskey bar. I fell in love right away with the peat, which I've been told my friends who are just getting into Scotch can be quite off-putting. Laphroaig 10 will always have a spot on my shelf. Great whisky. Special smell and taste.
My favorite. As a bagpiper, I've had this is my sporran flask.
Even tho it's been four years, well done. Thanks! That was perfect!
This whisky reminds me of Treebeard. Just fantastic.
The second whiskey I ever tried . . . Absolutely hooked . Love laphroaig

I've had a few bottles of this one. Really love it. I had some with an orange dessert one time, and then for the rest of the bottle I could taste this orange overtone. On the wall at Edinburgh castle, as the cannon sounds and peat and wood smoke blowing in with the har.
Love Laphroaig
Right back at you, Maestro! Sláinte!
Bought my first bottle of Laphroaig on the same day as I bought my resonator guitar!
Blues that makes you happy... whisky that makes you happy
You basically described laphroaig as kaleo. Im down for that, i love both.

Idea: let’s revisit this idea and do a Collab on the “Sound of Whiskey”

its the gritty blues slide sludge metal category of whiskey, obviously
Great video Daniel, nice time spent with your calendar again :) I'm curious what kind of music we will go through within the calendar :-D
You guys need to try islay mist and give a review
I heard Andrew Rae describe Laphroaig 10 as 'Tire Fire Scotch'. I heard that before I first tried it. That was the first thing I tasted the first time I tasted it. I think it's my only choice of Islay scotch.
Great stuff! One of my favs
I love the music review. Keep going!
First bottle I bought. And the first bottle I bought twice
