I would like to dedicate this song to my son ,that was locked up in the Pontiac State ,mental institution ,an shot himself dead ,just befor his 25th Birthday May he rest in peace.
+neonlittledog MY thoughts & prayers to you & yours,my son also took his life in 2007,a pain no parent should feel or go through,19 years young & plenty of life left to live.
Townes is much more blues than country. He is so deep and vulnerable, an outstanding songwriter but also a poet beyond scale. So sad for him, that he was so self destructive, but it appears, that for some of the greatest artists the pain and extreme sensitivity triggers the most outstanding artistic expression which benefits common people like most of us for generations.. Thank you TVZ

@@jakobreith Townes ran off with Lightin' Hopkins at a young age.Townes favorite saying was "There's two types of music, Zippity Doo Dah and The Blues". Townes would have loved to hear you call him a Blues Artist.
I think that we are lucky to be able to even hear this stuff. Townes was different - and as his mother said in her later life, the worst thing they ever did is put Townes in the sanitarium. I think his best friend Guy Clark said that Townes was brillant when he was high. GEt the DVD, Be Here To Love Me.

This song is one of his best,I think. It is a brutally honest description of Townes recollection of being institutionalized.I noticed that early on when his voice was still fairly decent, the instrumentals backing him were really cheesy and now here when his voice is shot someone finally decides to give him some decent backup! The short guitar solo is awesome.
@@lostdoggy6965 Old comment of mine.. Just did 11 days in a mental hospital. I can't even imagine being there for as long as Townes was. My Lord that place is terrible.
Look at the timeline. Early on he had recording contracts that forced him to do instrumentals in ways he didn't really like, then he'd rerecord and do live in more stripped down versions, which were better in my opinion. He was a folk singer.

Im so sorry that Townes actually went thru this as a teenager. Hus parents were told it would help his depression. It didn't. He was given shock therapy and it destroyed much of his memory. He had to be told who his mom was. It was bad and very sad
He was also given insulin shock treatment which put him in a coma. These involuntary and electric shock treatments were done in Galveston, Texas. His folks came and got him from Boulder, cus of his bizarre behavior. They did him no good. He lost all his early memories. He said he felt rootless. Love ya Townes. One of your “Many a Fine Lady” Thanks for the songs.✌️❤️🎵
Nice to hear a minor chord / sequence in a song of his post-My Mother the Mountain, where there're a heap of them. It gives his songs the emotional range his work after "Mother" largely lacks, musically, though certainly not lyrically.
I love this song, just not the overdubbing. I wish he had done an acoustic cover,,,it's such a harsh song; I like it as much as Porter Wagoner's cover of 'Committed to Parkview' and a little more than Johnny Cash's version of 'Hurt.' It's deep.
Someone say Porter Wagner...? And yea an acoustic version would be GREAT. Closest I came to finding one is not acoustic but spoken like a poem I guess... It would be great but it's from a random live thing I found on RUclips and the sound ain't so good. Hope you find a good one. Cheers.

actually insullin therapy is far worse than current ECT which is common and voluntarily used by outpatients often quite succesful ones to treat severe depression.
