      Zgembo121 Daniel L amen. You’re so right ? I also can’t stop checking and cleaning things. I’m going nuts. I’m on Prozac but it doesn’t really solve the behavior aspect of it. I feel like the kid in this video. What do I do? Why does everything have to be military clean. Why can’t I enjoy life and leave everything medium clean. It always has to be top notch clean. Any advise pleaseeee. Help this OCD white boy 😂

    What I've heard from suffers of this ailment is that they are entirely
    aware that both obsessional rumination and the compulsive
    practices which must follow are not 'correct' thought, they feel
    entirely unable to stop or even
    to change their thinking or behavior. When quizzed upon a
    particular trail of thought, it makes the cognitive approach something of a challenge when told that their explanation of events which is causing them so much anxiety, is logical, it is however not reasonable. So it's important to know, these two words are NOT interchangeable.

I know it's not logical, however I am so TERRIFIED of the tiny chance it may happened, because I didn't take the time to do it for him - he DESERVES better. He IS important to me, so I NEED to do it, and do it NOW! When I question myself, debating of I should fo it or not, because it's "crazy" talk, or I'm too busy, I get a SURGE of ANXIETY, and CONSUMED with GUILT, and that could last all day!!! The sad thing is, I thought that it was normal, and that everybody were like me...

    Exposure therapy is effective against the less "severe" OCD thoughts. It is an inadequate treatment for eg incest, abuse, killing your family etc etc. As the thoughts usually stay with you for the rest of your life, but will cause less anxiety/depression after ET. It also matters how long the disease has been developing.
    For example, in my case, I have been thinking that my dad planned to kill me one night while I was sleeping. I had these thoughts from when I was around 14/15 until I moved out of the house when I was 24 years old. I blocked my bedroom doors every single night.
    I have had thoughts that my mother abused me when I was little and then tried to damage my brain so that I would not remember this.
    This is only a tiny fraction of what I have struggled with, it has ruined large parts of my life, I was under treatment already when I was 7 years old, but was taken out of treatment. I sought help when I was around 19 years old and was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder. I already said at the time that I had thoughts of killing my family, but that it was the last thing I could have ever done!
    I was told by the psychiatrist that if this was true, then I had to be admitted to a closed psychiatric ward. I told him it was not true and it was a "sick" joke. Since that day, I told no one about my thoughts and thought I was an evil person!
    It is only now in recent years that I found information about this disorder.
    I was completely paralyzed when I realized that what I was experiencing was a serious brain disease, which has been overlooked for the past 30 years.
    Recent research shows that the brain of people with OCD operates in a different way. Information channels in the brain that transmit information to connection points for processing do not operate normally. Information that is completely absurd and unrealistic is not cut off. (inhibitory functioning)
    The information is further processed as possible important information.
    There are no limits to how catastrophic the scenario your brain can design and for the person experiencing it, it really feels as if it is real even if one realizes that it is not real. Thus, enormous anxiety and panic arises and one has to get away, perform compulsive etc etc.
    For the past 20 years I have documented some of the pain, with pictures and video, I thought I was a terrible evil person and was so scared that someone would find out.
    I was wrongly medicated for almost 15 years while the OCD continued to develop.
    It's only in the last 6 months things have started to get better.
    I now use 150mg Clomipramine and 60mg Vyvanse, which has given me a whole new start.

    • @DrRamiNader
      @DrRamiNader  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for sharing your experience. The one point I don't necessarily agree with is the notion of "less severe" OCD thoughts, because the severity of the thoughts is very subjective and idiosyncratic. For example, for someone who is very religious, blasphemous thoughts could feel like the most severe or awful thoughts anyone could ever have. Whereas for some who's not religious, those thoughts aren't severe at all. The severity of the content of the thoughts is highly individual.

    Thank you so much, my speaker died but I caught your slides. It's comforting to know there are like minded people out there who are comfortable sharing truths.
    The percentages on the house fire slide are amazing, very helpful and reassuring to be able think things through. It helps put things into perspective. Are they just average figures that capture all circumstances?
    With dropping a baby down the stairs and knocking over an elderly person scenarios, I can see how those would be similar to calculate very but if you stabbed one instead and hit bone, then lit the house fire, wouldn't your chances of getting caught go up significantly?
    You never hear, oh, she didn't want to stand there and suffer burning to death so she took her own life stabbing herself a total of 67 times. I guess if you think it through you could be alright. Maybe she done that before drinking 8 litres of water with the plans to just walk out unscathed. But accidentally drank the petrol out of the fridge? Who knows, it's a weird world out there.

    Hi! This are just a thought. Don't make such such thoughts real. U have identified yourself with such thought. So stop making this type of thought and don't believe in such thought because they are not real. Now whenever such type of thought came then don't do what thought tells u to do. Just observe the thought without reacting to it and u will see that if u dont react to the the thought then after sometime the thought will go away. Just don't believe in the thought and don't make this thought real. Always have positive thinking because what u think that u become so if u want positive changes in your life then think positive thoughts only.

    Yes i have ocd but now i can actually manage the urge even without medication. I remember back then i failed a subject in college because I'm always late because i can't stop taking a shower over and over again. Its a difficult disorder especially if you experience it for the first time. And its not joke. But in my experience as u grow old u gain some will power to resist and forget the urge.

Also if I'm in a store and it starts to get busy with people every were I feel like I have having a panic attack and a overlord from all the people thinking things of me. What would you call this? • @zefyralen7923
      @zefyralen7923 4 года назад +1

      Well from what i can gather according to CBT i would say that your selfsteem is low thus making your mind assume that like you everybody is looking down on you, not only that but your belief system could be unbalanced. What i mean by that is that you have some beliefs that are causing you harm, selfdestructive beliefs in a way, they can really mess up how well you feel outside of your home or maybe even when you are alone in your home. Do seek professional help for that a cognitive therapist. I hope you got better or that you may seek help.

    I had a friend with OCD. His compulsion was hand washing. He would every ten minutes, nearly down to the second, stop what he was doing, no matter what it was, and go wash his hands. He over time managed to shift his compulsion so his life was more manageable, last I knew he shifted from frequent hand washing, to long drawn out washing sessions, but with a much lower frequency. So he would wash his hands for like 3-5 minutes straight (I am sure he had a sweet spot that felt perfect, but idk the exact time), however the frequency at which he washed them was much closer to an average person, so he was able to plan things much better and could do things that took longer than 10 minutes without getting anxious. I'm not sure how it is now, he moved away and, despite the topic never really bothering him, it's not one I bring up when chatting.

    • @DrRamiNader
      @DrRamiNader  4 года назад +1

      Hello - I don't know what synchrocity is and don't know what that term means. Catastophizing is making a small issue seem like it is much worse or more significant as it is. Essentially, making a mountain out of a mole hill. Taking something small and seeing it as much bigger than it is. If you think about something bad happening a lot, it won't make it happen - we call that thought action fusion, and it's one of the things that can drive OCD. However, thoughts cannot affect the world without action. So just thinking about something can't make it happen. I hope that answers your questions.
