After watching your you tube video, I concluded that you are a knowledgeable guy to reach out to. Yesterday, my friend upgraded her refrigerator and placed the old one by the curb for me to pick up (her old hand me down is an upgrade to me). It is Is a Whirlpool ET20PK. It was working fine whenever I picked it up... but not so much now. I was careful transporting it, but evidently something has gone awry. I spent the entire day detailing it only to be disappointed when I awoke to a warm frig this morning. Fortunately, I did not transfer anything over and ran both units overnight. * It is humming. * Both the frig and freezer section exteriors are cool / cold to the touch. * The fans are blowing... but blowing warm air. I cleaned the dust bunnies off of the coils. First I vacuumed them, but they were stubborn so I took my blower to it. That did the trick! Did a loosen a connection? I would really appreciate your help. I am laid off and really cannot swing a service call right now.
Carl Berner. Sounds like your evaporator heater has failed, or is just failing to start. My evaporator froze up, found one of the wire pulled loose that powers the heater. How it pulled loose is unknown. Used shrink type 16 gauge automotive butt connector to repair, Works great.
First thing to try is to unplug & plug the fridge back in. My freezer stopped working & as soon as I did this- back to working normally. The freezer stopped cooling, but refrigerator was ok. There was no ice build up, either.

I have a Whirlpool top freezer that's 13 years old. Every 2 months the evaporator core in the freezer frosts up real bad. I have to remove the cover and put a couple pots of boiling water to thaw it out. There are no other problems, just this one. I was told it could be the timer or thermostat. I have a 12 year old side by side. It works great. right now the ice maker has a problem of freezing leak towards the back of the ice maker. It still makes ice and dispenses it. But will stop if frozen drip is not removed.

The compressor not starting? Do you mean the starter relay? Mine sounds like it's having a hard time starting but runs strong & quiet after it gets going.
It may, or may not be, depending on the voltage and fan rpm (rotations(revolutions) per minute). Voltage requirements need to be the same as well as rpm should be the same as these are engineered to function precisely. In a pinch I have used a bathroom fan motor to keep a fridge cool until the proper motor arrived.
What might cause this...my refrigerator will run and cool to the desired temperature setting and turn off as expected. Then it will start warming up inside, but the compressor/fan doesn't kick on again to cool. If I unplug the refrigerator and wait a bit, then plug it back in it will run and cool to the desired temperature. Is this a thermostat issue, or something else? (I did install a supco 3-n-1 on this fridge too - it didn't even turn on without the 3-n-1)

I did. After starting to dis-assemble it, I realized the problem got worse as the refrigerator got colder (ie, right after opening the door, it went away). I zeroed-in on the controller having a bad contact somewhere, found a new one on the internet, and replaced it. It's been fine ever since. Not an easy replacement though, since it came with a new wiring harness (different pinouts), so I basically had to re-wire all the controls.

Fridge under 7 months old. Sounded like the smoothing sound of an ocean miles away. Now much louder, like an engine reeving up & down over & over. Repair guy said no way to check the compressor. May be the fan now that I watched. Only a few months left on warranty. He said the sound changes over time. Of course it didn't do it for him. He turned the temp down and I heard an awful noise I'd never heard, normal he says. Don't think I look stupid, they think women are dumb. The water above the compressor is condensate and is normal. The fridge removes heat from the freezer that is mostly trapped in moisture that drains through the condensate drain to the top of the compressor where it evaporates. The relay may be bad, the compressor may be bad, there is a small chance a three in one starter pack might be able get it going. First thing I would check for would be your freezer fans to make sure they are working and there is no ice blockage in any channels from the freezer to the fridge. Also make sure items are placed to allow good circulation in the freezer and fridge.
My freezer keeps defrosting. It seems to function correctly some of the time and then not run other times. The solution seems to be turning up the cold in the refrigerator and messing with the dial until it eventually turns on. To me this sounds like the thermostat but i really have no idea. I would start with cleaning the coils to make sure that it is able to shed heat well. ~ Check me vid " How To Clean Out Refrigerator Coils With A Wet Dry Vacuum Converted To A Blower " ~ Also try to position the fridge so that it has some air flow around all sides.

I have bad luck with fridges.....my old Kenmore caught on fire and burned from the freezer all the way down into the food compartment...my insurer did'nt believe me till I sent him pics ...the new one, a Hotpoint,seems to cool and freeze as it should,but has whirred,clicked and made light knocking sounds after I bought it new at HD.....Hotpoint says noises are normal.......BS.........Any ideas you could give me of what is making these noises would be greatly appreciated.....Many thanks!!
It is most likely the fan blades hitting "knocking" a little on the sides of the freezer trim. Often it is just a matter of adjusting the freezer back cover inside the freezer or adjusting the fan or fan mount itself. My video " Fridge Not Cooling ~ First Things To Check For ~ Refrigerator Ice Boxing" should give you a decent look at how to get to the fan and inspire the ideas towards how to adjust it.
+Debbie Roberson First try and most likely fix for that scenario would be to clean the condenser coils on bottom or back of fridge. Often a dirty coil will cause that amount of a difference in temperature.
My refrigerator get problems on Refrigerator side, it is not cold enough. On the Freeze side is all way good. Can you tell me what going on with my Refrigerator.

Check me vid "One Thing To Check For If Your Refrigerator Fan Motor And Compressor Won't Start" it could just be stuck in defrost mode. Beyond that it is possible you have a burned wire, bad cord, or bad control board. You might also try plugging it in to a different outlet.
My 2006 whirlpool gold side by side is in the garage since I moved from CA to WA and the freezer won't get below 20 degrees. The repairman said it was too cold in the garage and it won't cool properly because of that and to cover it with a blanket which didn't work. I thought it ,might be a freon leak because of the move but he said no even tho he didn't test it. Even when the temp in the garage was in the fifties it still didn't get colder. Is he right? Yea, most newer fridges are junk. Every 2 or 3 years I have to repair something on the two I have. My 30 year fridge in the garage stills works great. Never fixed a thing.

I have always understood it is healthy for an air conditioner to be turned on for about a week (off and on) at least, every summer. Does the same apply regarding the refrigerator? Thanks.
Yes, it's good to run an air conditioner or fridge to keep the seals lubricated with the oil that is mixed in with the Freon.
Perfect Annihilation plug it in and see if the compressor froze.

what if the copper tubing on the freezer side, of a side by side refrigerator is glowing red hot...this my second side by side and its red hot again.
I would start with cleaning the coils to make sure that it is able to shed heat well. ~ Check me vid " How To Clean Out Refrigerator Coils With A Wet Dry Vacuum Converted To A Blower " ~ Also try to position the fridge so that it has some air flow around all sides.

My fridge tries to click on but after about 5 seconds you hear it click off. Its doing its job but what is this clicking noise? Its a whirlpool gold side by side.
I have a problem where my fridge will start and i can hear the compressor for maybe 2 - 3 seconds and cuts off tripping the power in my housde. There was also some stale looking water on the back of the fridge in a tray above the compressor.Any ideas on what this may be don't really have cash to buy a new one at the minute although i have been advised to do so.

does the fan always spin and what if its not spinning when you open? there was small drip and my ducks were clogged. I defrosted them but the fan is still not going on.
Ours is a Frigidaire side x side about 10 yrs old. Recently noticed a slight rise in the freezer temp. so adjusted the thermostat and all seems well. But at the same time, the frame around the freezer door is very warm or may even be considered hot. Is this a symptom of a defrost heater or thermostat gone bad or about to go bad? Maybe staying on longer than it should but still allows the freezer to cool down?

+Mike Sweatman Might have gone into defrost mode. As long as it comes out okay on its own that is normal. If not the defrost timer would be a suspect.

I have bad luck with fridges.....my old Kenmore caught on fire and burned from the freezer all the way down into the food compartment...my insurer did'nt believe me till I sent him pics ...the new one, a Hotpoint,seems to cool and freeze as it should,but has whirred,clicked and made light knocking sounds after I bought it new at HD.....Hotpoint says noises are normal.......BS.........Any ideas you could give me of what is making these noises would be greatly appreciated.....Many thanks!!
It is most likely the fan blades hitting "knocking" a little on the sides of the freezer trim. Often it is just a matter of adjusting the freezer back cover inside the freezer or adjusting the fan or fan mount itself. My video " Fridge Not Cooling ~ First Things To Check For ~ Refrigerator Ice Boxing" should give you a decent look at how to get to the fan and inspire the ideas towards how to adjust it.

+Debbie Roberson First try and most likely fix for that scenario would be to clean the condenser coils on bottom or back of fridge. Often a dirty coil will cause that amount of a difference in temperature.

My refrigerator get problems on Refrigerator side, it is not cold enough. On the Freeze side is all way good. Can you tell me what going on with my Refrigerator.

I have the same problem as well, and you were right it was the iceblockage. However the ice builds back up every few days. Suggestion? defrost timer?

Check me vid "One Thing To Check For If Your Refrigerator Fan Motor And Compressor Won't Start" it could just be stuck in defrost mode. Beyond that it is possible you have a burned wire, bad cord, or bad control board. You might also try plugging it in to a different outlet.

My 2006 whirlpool gold side by side is in the garage since I moved from CA to WA and the freezer won't get below 20 degrees. The repairman said it was too cold in the garage and it won't cool properly because of that and to cover it with a blanket which didn't work. I thought it ,might be a freon leak because of the move but he said no even tho he didn't test it. Even when the temp in the garage was in the fifties it still didn't get colder. Is he right? Yea, most newer fridges are junk. Every 2 or 3 years I have to repair something on the two I have. My 30 year fridge in the garage stills works great. Never fixed a thing.
