Spina Bifida Patient Surprised with Ultimate Atlanta Braves Experience

Joshua was born with spina bifida, a type of neural tube defect that affects the spine. Over his 13 years of life, he has had 65 surgeries at Children’s for various complications related to his condition-starting when he was only 10 hours old. During his most recent hospital admission, he spent 111 days in our PICU. When you spend this much time in our hospital, your care team becomes your family. Everyone who knows Joshua knows he is the biggest Atlanta Braves fan. On the day he was discharged, he got the surprise of a lifetime when Braves player Tyler Matzek showed up in his hospital room and invited him to an all-star experience at Truist Park.
