I still play Valheim to this day. Every "open world survival craft" game I have bought since Valheim's release has been nothing but a let down because Valheim set the bar too high.
This game will always have a special place in my heart. Started a single world that I still build on to this day, and the time put into builds was worth it for all the memories I think of when I see them again.
i remember buying it the day it came out with some friends. we played it 10 hours straight, and many other friends gradually bought it and logged into the server.
To me the attractive thing about this game was the freedom and joy of discovery. There wasn't much handholding, just dropped into the world and start figure out what it was about. Encountering unexpected mysterious new stuff that I could never know whether to approach or run away from. No pressure to do anything besides what I decided I wanted to do. I think many games fail in this regard: trying to tailor and control the experience too much.
I was on a course away from home when I discovered Valheim thru my roomates in February ‘21. We binged played on the weekend around the clock. I’ve been casually playing since it’s release on Gamepass and I cannot wait for the Ashland update. Valheim is the game, I as an 80s kid, wished for back when we played Diablo 1 and Baldur’s Gate and Zelda Ocarina of Time. The gritty graphic paired with the light without forgetting to mention the fantastic dynamic soundtrack make this game a great game. Thank you
i'm one of few who played it in early alpha back in 2018 and never stopped loving the game. I knew back then it would be a success if it ever hit steam. I also own the Odin dlc
Here's my take on Valheim, being an Indian, i could never afford to actually BUY any games in childhood, so most of the games i played were pirated. But 25 years later, when i watched Valheim 1st time on RUclips, i just went to p*rate*ay and downloaded the copy, but after few days of gameplay and knowing the story of the developer, i realized that this Rs.1200.00 (like 15 USD more or less) is a worthy 1st timer. And the i actually bought the game and damm i never felt so good. Valheim is definitely a game for years to play.
A number of my friends have made comments about the deer 'barking' in the game. And I'm sure many people wonder about that. LOL ... fun fact; the deer here in Sweden really do sound like that! Where I'm originally from, the deer sound like a hollow, creepy, high pitched horn. So when I moved to Sweden, and heard the barking sound the deer make; I about died laughing. It's SO cute!!!
Valheim sucked me in when it first released. Dropped 330 hours on it before I had to let go of it. Now I'm waiting for full release to dive back in. It's my number 1 survival game, even over Minecraft.
I finally beat The Queen and now I'm working on Hildir's quests. I didn't start playing until the game came to Series X I still play other games but Valheim keeps me coming back I have built a pretty big walled citadel for my base and have gates off all over the map. Looking forward to the Ashlands update.
I swear to god I played a demo of valheim some long time ago. There were plains, greydwarves, portals, the building system and ships. But I couldn’t find any information at all about where I got that demo until I found this video
If they game had just a homeland where there are easier creatures but venturing into harder lands means its harder to keep bases up they wont have to worry about splitting up players
i mean thats how the biome progression works. the meadows is the easiest, then black forest is a little harder, and after that you almost need a boat to get to any biome after that
6:31 "The Game Runs So Well" Rightt..... Would you belive me that Hogwars Legacy, The Withcer 3, Rainbow Six Siege, Days Gone, Escape From Tarkov, etc. Runs Better and More Stable, than Valheim, would you belive that? I know i know they all made by a big studio, but for a 1GB Early Access game that's not an excuse, i love the game though, but wish they optimized it more further.
The game has been one of my favorite experiences, and I enjoyed it for a while, but the slow development really turned away most people I know. I feel like in the last 3 years, nothing major was released. Mistlands update wasn't too great in my personal opinion, and the rest isn't too exciting either. In my opinion, something really large has to release to have me and my friends play again, like that person who is making a whole new adventure map with unique area's and quests to do.
I love Valheim! It was the gateway game that got me into playing games other than Planet Coaster, which I thought would never happen. It gave me & my fellow D&D group a chance to meet up in the game & play together since we couldn't meet up irl to get our game sessions on. So many memories & fun times are associated with this game! While I have been playing other games, there's a pull that Valheim has on me that has me craving to finish my world & to get more people to play this fun game with me! To all those involved in getting this game out to us ~ a big thank you & I hope that just like with Minecraft, that this game will have just as long durability to it as well, that I'll be playing this with my grandson, when he's old enough! ☮& ♥~ SmilingOma333 🙂
Does the boat mechanics feel better now? Played last year and oh boy they have a mind of there own even with wind favouring you. I hope in the future we get sharks or dolphins we can tame and have them mounted on our boat with ropes to tug us along the water.
6:55 Valheim has terrible optimization. If you build decent enough structure, your fps will plummet way below 60 on a modern PC. And the net code, omg, it is pain. Still, 900 hours well spent.
@@blairhaffly1777 what program are you using to see framerate and frametime on your xbox? did you build something bigger than one story house? did you decorate it heavily? what about performance in last biome? did you play multiplayer? I have 150+ fps in meadows with starter house but that just a tiny fraction of the game.
I'd say so, yes. I really enjoy playing both alone and with friends. In the long run I think I enjoy it more with friends, but playing alone is a whole other experience. The biggest downside may be that when you die, you don;t have anyone to help you get your stuff back (although I do know of a "valheim rescue" subreddit that is specifically for helping people in that situation). If you really fear losing your stuff, you can also turn it off.
6:45 Sorry but from my experience that's false. I was playing Valheim on Xbox one S, when a grey dwarf raid started the FPS would drop to between 2 - 5. Made the game virtually unplayable, and I just gave up 😑 fortunately the game does run great on the Series X 👍🏻
Good to know people still enjoy this game. I still love it but all I ever see from the Steam community is shitting on it for not pumping out content fast enough for their goblin brains lol
Valheim pre Mistlands is still worth $20. The amount of replay-ability in this game is insane. Ive stopped playing $60 games after just 10 hours. Im still playing Valheim 1000+ hours in
