Hi! So how did it go? I also have to stop in Amsterdam on my way to Oslo in a few weeks and I was a little worried. Arriving from another country in the Schengen area (Italy), will I have to go through additional security checks or simply reach the Oslo gate as soon as I get off the plane?

thanks for the video: We'll be making asimilar walk soon. For me, the long walk after a 12+ hour flight is soooo welcome. We avoid the travelators, unless pushed for time. It's important to get the blood and energies flowing again. We also try to make transfers gentle with at least 3 hours between flights; there are usually a variety of connections for busier destinations.

I am going to fly from Frankfurt to minneapolis with KLM that includes 1 stop in Schiphol..its gonna be my first time of travelling and I am totally nervous. We used AMS as our connector between SFO and BCN, and it is a good walk to get to the connecting flight. Pray that your 1st flight doesn't arrive late (left BCN late), and crunch your time getting to your connecting flight. Having to go from gate C to F w/about 20 minutes to spare w/a family can be stressful.
Thank you very much for this excellent video. My grandson is flying alone for the first time and I was worried about his stop-over at Schipol. I had a bad experience at that airport some 10 years ago and have avoided it ever since. Your video has helped alleviate my worries about my grandson there.

Thank you for the video of your transfer at the Amsterdam airport…. WoW i can not think on any airport in the states that has that much walking (including Atlanta and Charlotte and Minneapolis). That walk was ridiculous. My wife and i will be making a first time transfer from DELTA FLIGHT to a KLM flight. We have about a 9 hour layover and I wanted to show my wife some of the sights In Amsterdam but after watching your walk through the airport … just to change flights…. I think i will stay put and find a corner to hangout in…. Any one got any suggestions if i should continue and try to go into the city or just stay in the airport???? I will wait (smile)

Im going to make a connection at amsterdam in a few weeks, nice video but its still a bit confusing to me, I have very bad coordination skills, I mean once you get from the plane how do you know in which directions to go if there are no signs that say where the "C14" is, or where the "C" parts are, I only saw the signs about "C" parts much later into the video, so how do you know in the beginning which directions to walk to?

@@lucdn773 It was super easy to navigate from the plane to my next gate for the connection flight & definitely enough time for me 😁 my next gate wasn't far thankfully but even if it was I would have made it. I didn't have to go through immigration or security 🤷♀️ if I did I would probably say 1 hour wouldn't be enough time depending on how busy it was. Hope that helps 🙏

Hi.. my daughter travelling to Phoenix, Arizona from India. She will travel from KLM Royal Dutch Airplane and land at Schiphol airport. From Schiphol she has to catch Air France Flight. Will she need transit visa?

Yes, the flight arrived a little bit earlier so that also helped. The baggage inspection took a little more time than I expected because they only had 2 X-ray machines working, about 20-25 min. They didn’t open my carry-on baggage. The walk to the next gate took about 15-20 min. It’s pretty straight, difficult to get lost. Passport check was also smooth. I had plenty of time to go to the restroom too.

So basically when you have to echange flights you always must be looking for transfer flights (for example T2-9 as in the video)? And also, your baggage goes straight to your final destination (in this case Denmark) when you're flying with the same company?
Yes, if you have a connecting flight you follow the signs that indicate you're a transfer, and 99% of the time your baggage will be forwarded to your connecting flight. The only reason you would have to pick up and check your baggage in again is if you buy two plane tickets separately. You can always ask when you first check-in and get your boarding passes if your bags will be sent along with you to your final destination or not to reassure what you will need to do : )
I have a flight coming up next week arriving at Amsterdam from Chicago. We then are having a connecting flight to Copenhagen, and only have an hour or so to do so. Is this possible with such long walks plus security/immigration?

Nice video!! Since i work in the aviation, it's nice to see what the airport offers for passengers using it as an stopover, but, there is a little difference between a transit and transfer. When you've got a stopover at an airport, but you will continue your trip on the same airplane, it's an transit. When you've got a stopover and continue your trip on another airplane/flight, it's a transfer, so this was a transfer! Nonetheless, great video😉

@@PeruanaenEscandinavia it will always be announced before landing by the crew, or it’s on your ticket, or you can ask it a the check-in desk, there are multiple ways to find out if you’re staying on the same plane or not. But, in case of KLM, a transfer will mostly be to another plane, let’s say you’re flying from Los Angeles to Amsterdam, and from Amsterdam to Copenhagen (i’m just making this up), you will hop to another plane at Amsterdam, since the big transatlantic planes won’t fly the regional flights, like Amsterdam-Copenhagen. You’ll get onto a smaller plane, or the other way around, regional to trans atlantic.

Very informative video. I have a flight from MNL-KL-AMS-MAN in July, 2019 and this helps. However I'm disabled in that I walk with a cane so any help in avoiding such long walks between gates is appreciated. Can't wait to buy "gouda kass" and Starbucks mugs.

It seems if you are transferring in Amsterdam to enter to any European country,you must pass through security check in Amsterdam but if you are not entering EU then you won't pass through passport control
i used that airport a once for transfer flight from Denpasar with Garuda From G gates to C Gates for CDG and i walked 45-50 min for going to my boarding gate, and doing a transfer flight into that huge terminal mainly for tired travelers who coming from (Asia) Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Taipei is sometime a challenge (one concept terminal but huge terminal) i thought that Amsterdam airport was separated by some terminals like Heathrow, CDG and Frankfurt because Schiphol it's a huge hub like those airports, i can't believe that airport have more years pax than Frankfurt airport being that Frankfurt aiprort it's bigger than Schiphol or i probably wrong of course

Hi there Srećko Hadžić, boarding passes for all our flights was issued when we checked in for our first flight. This route was from Kuala Lumpur to Copenhagen via Amsterdam, so we would have been given our Boarding pass for all flights in Kuala Lumpur as we always book flights as a package. I can help with this, generally when you fly through an EU airport to another EU airport, the connection is considered schengen. So you don't need to be stopped or checked. I flew from the UK to Helsinki on my way to the Japan, and i didnt have to go back through security in Helsinki because Finland is an EU member. I have a flight to Hungary connecting in Germany next month, which means that i only go through security in the UK. However, this is often inconsistent, I dont think every EU airport does the same thing if that makes sense.

T = Transfer the number is indicating how much transferdesks there are... In this case also T because Schiphol is split in two zones. The Shengen zone (security check only for traveling within the shengen area) and the non-shengen (the rest of the world) zone. The non shengen part is security+immigration check. So at the T(ransfer) you are also officially entering the European Union and therefor passing immigration. After arriving at the final destination within shengen you don't go through immigration again. Schiphol all gates B and C are shengen. Also D59 and higher is in the shengen zone. All other gates are non shengen. There is a shengen/non shengen immigration check with a special fast lane for short connection flights located near the D gates. Best tip: there is a schiphol app for android and apple. This also includes a map of the airport!

Hi! So how did it go? I also have to stop in Amsterdam on my way to Oslo in a few weeks and I was a little worried. Arriving from another country in the Schengen area (Italy), will I have to go through additional security checks or simply reach the Oslo gate as soon as I get off the plane?

For me, the long walk after a 12+ hour flight is soooo welcome. We avoid the travelators, unless pushed for time. It's important to get the blood and energies flowing again.
We also try to make transfers gentle with at least 3 hours between flights; there are usually a variety of connections for busier destinations.

I am going to fly from Frankfurt to minneapolis with KLM that includes 1 stop in Schiphol..its gonna be my first time of travelling and I am totally nervous. But that video helps me to get a good impression of what's waiting for me when I am in Schiphol to get my transfer (to USA). Thank you so much for sharing the video. It will help me a lot! We used AMS as our connector between SFO and BCN, and it is a good walk to get to the connecting flight. Pray that your 1st flight doesn't arrive late (left BCN late), and crunch your time getting to your connecting flight. Having to go from gate C to F w/about 20 minutes to spare w/a family can be stressful.
Thank you very much for this excellent video. My grandson is flying alone for the first time and I was worried about his stop-over at Schipol. I had a bad experience at that airport some 10 years ago and have avoided it ever since. Your video has helped alleviate my worries about my grandson there.

Thank you for the video of your transfer at the Amsterdam airport…. WoW i can not think on any airport in the states that has that much walking (including Atlanta and Charlotte and Minneapolis). That walk was ridiculous. My wife and i will be making a first time transfer from DELTA FLIGHT to a KLM flight. We have about a 9 hour layover and I wanted to show my wife some of the sights In Amsterdam but after watching your walk through the airport … just to change flights…. I think i will stay put and find a corner to hangout in…. Any one got any suggestions if i should continue and try to go into the city or just stay in the airport???? I will wait (smile)

Im going to make a connection at amsterdam in a few weeks, nice video but its still a bit confusing to me, I have very bad coordination skills, I mean once you get from the plane how do you know in which directions to go if there are no signs that say where the "C14" is, or where the "C" parts are, I only saw the signs about "C" parts much later into the video, so how do you know in the beginning which directions to walk to?

@@lucdn773 It was super easy to navigate from the plane to my next gate for the connection flight & definitely enough time for me 😁 my next gate wasn't far thankfully but even if it was I would have made it. I didn't have to go through immigration or security 🤷♀️ if I did I would probably say 1 hour wouldn't be enough time depending on how busy it was. Hope that helps 🙏

Hi.. my daughter travelling to Phoenix, Arizona from India. She will travel from KLM Royal Dutch Airplane and land at Schiphol airport. From Schiphol she has to catch Air France Flight. Will she need transit visa?

Yes, the flight arrived a little bit earlier so that also helped.
The baggage inspection took a little more time than I expected because they only had 2 X-ray machines working, about 20-25 min. They didn’t open my carry-on baggage.
The walk to the next gate took about 15-20 min. It’s pretty straight, difficult to get lost.
Passport check was also smooth.
I had plenty of time to go to the restroom too.

So basically when you have to echange flights you always must be looking for transfer flights (for example T2-9 as in the video)? And also, your baggage goes straight to your final destination (in this case Denmark) when you're flying with the same company?
Yes, if you have a connecting flight you follow the signs that indicate you're a transfer, and 99% of the time your baggage will be forwarded to your connecting flight. The only reason you would have to pick up and check your baggage in again is if you buy two plane tickets separately. You can always ask when you first check-in and get your boarding passes if your bags will be sent along with you to your final destination or not to reassure what you will need to do : )

Nice video!! Since i work in the aviation, it's nice to see what the airport offers for passengers using it as an stopover, but, there is a little difference between a transit and transfer. When you've got a stopover at an airport, but you will continue your trip on the same airplane, it's an transit. When you've got a stopover and continue your trip on another airplane/flight, it's a transfer, so this was a transfer! Nonetheless, great video😉

Aron Kruit, how do you know whether you will continue your trip on the same plane or on a different if both belong to the same airplane company (KLM)?
@@PeruanaenEscandinavia it will always be announced before landing by the crew, or it’s on your ticket, or you can ask it a the check-in desk, there are multiple ways to find out if you’re staying on the same plane or not. But, in case of KLM, a transfer will mostly be to another plane, let’s say you’re flying from Los Angeles to Amsterdam, and from Amsterdam to Copenhagen (i’m just making this up), you will hop to another plane at Amsterdam, since the big transatlantic planes won’t fly the regional flights, like Amsterdam-Copenhagen. You’ll get onto a smaller plane, or the other way around, regional to trans atlantic.

Very informative video. I have a flight from MNL-KL-AMS-MAN in July, 2019 and this helps. However I'm disabled in that I walk with a cane so any help in avoiding such long walks between gates is appreciated. Can't wait to buy "gouda kass" and Starbucks mugs.

It seems if you are transferring in Amsterdam to enter to any European country,you must pass through security check in Amsterdam but if you are not entering EU then you won't pass through passport control
i used that airport a once for transfer flight from Denpasar with Garuda From G gates to C Gates for CDG and i walked 45-50 min for going to my boarding gate, and doing a transfer flight into that huge terminal mainly for tired travelers who coming from (Asia) Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Taipei is sometime a challenge (one concept terminal but huge terminal) i thought that Amsterdam airport was separated by some terminals like Heathrow, CDG and Frankfurt because Schiphol it's a huge hub like those airports, i can't believe that airport have more years pax than Frankfurt airport being that Frankfurt aiprort it's bigger than Schiphol or i probably wrong of course

Where did you get your boarding pass for your flight to Denmark? I didn't see that moment in your video. :)
Hi there Srećko Hadžić, boarding passes for all our flights was issued when we checked in for our first flight. This route was from Kuala Lumpur to Copenhagen via Amsterdam, so we would have been given our Boarding pass for all flights in Kuala Lumpur as we always book flights as a package. Hope that answers your question. Good job! But where was immigration check and did they check your hand luggage at some point?
I can help with this, generally when you fly through an EU airport to another EU airport, the connection is considered schengen. So you don't need to be stopped or checked. I flew from the UK to Helsinki on my way to the Japan, and i didnt have to go back through security in Helsinki because Finland is an EU member. I have a flight to Hungary connecting in Germany next month, which means that i only go through security in the UK. However, this is often inconsistent, I dont think every EU airport does the same thing if that makes sense.

Does everyone follow the T2-T9?
What is the T2-T9?
T = Transfer the number is indicating how much transferdesks there are...
In this case also T because Schiphol is split in two zones. The Shengen zone (security check only for traveling within the shengen area) and the non-shengen (the rest of the world) zone. The non shengen part is security+immigration check.
So at the T(ransfer) you are also officially entering the European Union and therefor passing immigration. After arriving at the final destination within shengen you don't go through immigration again.
Schiphol all gates B and C are shengen. Also D59 and higher is in the shengen zone.
All other gates are non shengen.
There is a shengen/non shengen immigration check with a special fast lane for short connection flights located near the D gates.
Best tip: there is a schiphol app for android and apple. This also includes a map of the airport!
