I adored Barbara Daniels in FANCIULLA and she made me come to love this opera so much. I met her a few times and THAT I will never forget. I don't think the MET was fair to Barbara Daniels after FANCIULLA. Shortly after, she left the MET and really never returned though she did a DIE LUSTIGE WITWE at the MET.
I loved you Barbara as MINNIE! You were fantastic! I'm so sad your Met career did not go well after FANCIULLA! I will never understand the why! I wish you are well! God Bless!
Thanks to jetaimearin for posting this wonderful interview. Thanks to Barbara Daniels for her astonishing portrayal as Minnie and for giving this insightful interview. Fanciulla del West is so beautiful and so haunting. The Met production is sensational. Barbara Daniels IS Minnie and I am so thankful for that gift!
Barbara Daniels is so intelligent a singer, as reflected in this very interesting interview. I saw her production of "La Fanciulla del West" with Slatkin/Domingo/Milnes when it was broadcast over PBS decades ago, and I have seen it again and again on RUclips. I think it is the definitive version available to the public of this opera. That makes me agree with "jetaimearin's" comment above that this is a singer who deserves to be far better known.
Barbara Daniels was spectacular as Minnie in the Metropolitan Opera's production of "La Fanciulla del West". In recorded it on my VCR in early 90s and I bought the DVD when it was issued. What a great opera and what a terrific cast. The production, itself, is wonderful. But without Barbara Daniels' portrayal of Minnie it would all have been a big flop. I've watched it dozens of times.
Dear Barbara, you are just as lovely as you were in 1973, when we both auditioned for Braunschweig, and had a short chat at the Bahnhof. Saw you in Zürich (1980) as Margerita (with Sam Ramey). Adore your voice ! ! ! Ferenc
Daniels posesses a vibrant soprano and she was very jubilant in everything she sang. Minnie was a enjoable role for her to watch. From her notes here it sounds like the production was harrowing. I know vocally Minnie is a voice shredder up there with Abagaille, Odabella, Turandot... it is more romantic than most shredders but my goodness she must have earned every penny of her fees. Brava.

THAT voice a superb voice! Terribly missed! Golden voice, gorgeous sound and she resembled a bit the great Maria Jeritza! RIP
She is alive!

THAT was a splendid voice! Loved her sooo much. Thanks for the clip.
Love the movie. Milnes, great sherriff. Marvelous staging in the first act. One of my favorite Puccini operas.

She is definitely one my very favorites! I love her voice as well! And you are very welcome for the clip :)
Thanks for sharing! What a candid moment with this wonderful artist! :-)
Oh, she was a wonderful artist! I saw her many times at the Met, although the management underutilized her by assigning Musetta way too often.

I am so happy that you have been able to move through all the bad parts of your life and come so far. Was in the same class with Janet.
