    I had the priviledge of meeting James at an exhibition in Detroit...he is one of the funniest men alive...and certainly greatest bench pressers of all time. His 711# IPF/USPF record done raw in Philly was unbelievable and perhaps one of the best benches I ever saw....the meet director has the video and I got to see all the attempts....all perfect and he just missed a raw 722# bench at that meet. Had he not retired, he'd have hit 750# eventually. He was that strong. Please post some more vids.

    I've personally talked to this man. James Henderson before. He is definently natural. He is totally against using bench shirts. And using drugs. The man is truly gifted. And people who think that they have to take drugs to get to this level are truly mentally weak. I know that other people have tooken steroids. But there is no need for it. And I have much more respect for guys who go out and lift huge weights raw and naturally.

    Actually there is a video of Henderson's lifts at that Seniors in Philly....the lifts are beyond legit....I have seen many bench presses and Henderson's lifts (683#, 699#, 711#) were as perfect as could ever be witnessed...he barely missed 722# that day on a 4th attempt. Mendy is unbelievable, no doubt. ALL of the vids of his raw attempts that I've seen were "quick" pauses, BUT were done with plenty of strength left and at a lighter bodyweight...so props to BOTH men.

    I hope you're right Chris. it's just so aggravating that my inclined bench, deadlift, and squat move so quickly when I pay so little attention towards them, and yet my bench moves embarrassingly slow, and I have given my life to that lift.

    I have noticed that. A lot of people disagree with pausing in training at all if it is RAW simply because it is hard on the joints. After pausing in training 3 times in a 6 week period, I'm feeling it man. But hey, I gotta do whatever it takes to build up my strength off the chest.

    There is a video of henderson in philly where Henderson KILLS it effortlesslly, and kennelly has been quoted as saying anecdotally that Henderson's the best raw bencher on the planet. I agree with your point though, mendy has fantastic control, and despite the fact that when he put up 715 it was a quick pause but it was legit, i dont think many ppl should be disputing that. The big thing about henderson is that from all accounts he has the greatest "natural" strength people have seen in years.

  • @youz1uglybish
    @youz1uglybish 11 лет назад

    also keep in mind that james henderson is a mountain of a man the guy weighs 400lbs...im not saying size equates to strength but it definitley raises your ceiling as far as your potential to lift. i beleive scott mendelson benched 700lbs at 308 thats a big difference imo

    I know what you mean, but we have to give it a little while. He said that he'll either go for the RAW record or take the 275 shirted record. If he goes RAW first, then we should expect to see him fight in March or April, if he goes shirted first, then RAW might not happen until late 2009.

    He's got to be the strongest RAW bencher I've ever seen, him and Kennelly are neck in neck at this point, but I think if Henderson would continue to trian and compete, a 750 RAW bench wouldn't be impossible? Anyways, this is a fantastic lift from the best RAW bencher to have ever lived.

  • @cyberkai99
    @cyberkai99 15 лет назад

    Perhaps he hasn't done anything in a meet yet, but he'll be makiing up his mind this month whether to bench the RAW record or push the 275 record up to a grand. Anyways, Kennelly has most certainly joined the race and has become one of only 3 men in the world to handle 700 RAW.

  • @str94100
    @str94100 13 лет назад

    consider, westside has 12 guys totaling over 2500 (geared), and Louie Simmons says its impossible to train at their weight and volume and remain natural. And when you hear a statement like that from a man whos gym has at least 10 guys who bench over 700, id say you need to think it over.

    I did cut out a bunch of guys I suppose, because I've heard of all of them, but I just kinda let them slip my mind. On the other hand, I watched a guy at my dad's prison bench 720 touch and go RAW, so maybe I wasn't thinking right. Anyways, you're damn right I think kennelly can do what he wants. it's true that 2+ boards are easier to bench to, but 800 lbs to 2-boards is just crazy. Now Chris, I GUARUNTEE Kennelly can bench 725+ full range right now with a pause... if he wanted to.

    I was 265 or so when I hit 475 in November. I'm 27, but only for another week. My birthday is April 17th. Going for 500 this year, but I wanna do it at 250 and cut a substantial amount of body fat...but both dropping weight and increasing my bench to 500 might take more like two years since I don't use drugs or supplements.

  • @cyberkai99
    @cyberkai99 15 лет назад

    Listen man, you need to get yourself educated about Ryan then. He just recently did 800 lbs off a fucking 2-boards and did an EASY warm-up with 725 paused to a 3-board. He looked very comfortable with the 725 and put in little to no effort. Now as for his 800 lb 2-board press, it's suggestive how easy it was for him.

    its the easy way up in the sense of what steroids actually allow you to do...a guy on steroids will get much further in his physique (in terms of results) in a much shorter period of time than a natural you know this.i beleive there are guys at the top of their sport who are on the juice...i also beleive there are guys who are completley natural who are also at the top of their sport.where we differ is the fact that i dont beleive steroids are absolutley necessary to obtain top dog status

    Siamand Rahman is ahead of them both. He's like 26 or 27 and just hit 705 raw in competition...oh did I mention he doesn't have legs? That's right, the man with the highest raw bench in recently years is a paraplegic who competes in the paralympics. The dude is crazy heavy, but then again all three of these guys are the better part of 400 pounds. Jeremy Hoornstra is the most impressive with 661 raw at 240 pounds. If he can go to 275, I think he could hit 700, only time will tell.

  • @URAGR8M8

    The only thing Kennelly has done with 700 RAW is a 5-board press - way more than 3 people have had 700+ raw for high board lock-outs. We don't know what Kennelly can do raw. I've seen an easy 625 warm-up by him, but that can translate a thousand different ways into a proper paused single max rep. There is far too much speculation going on. I doubt he'll do a raw meet anyway - in his interview he was far from diehard and Mendy is putting up numbers again which will keep Scot focused on multi-ply.

    @muzimuzi No Mendelson was 275 powerliftingwatchcom. I was told by Bob Norris a friend of mine also world record bench presser, that Henderson was around 400lbs when he did his record lift. Powerlifting watch just has him in SHW class but no specific weight. I mean the guy is just a bench pressing freak I honestly dont think he did roids. Mendelson did 715 at 275 thats 440 pounds more than him, Henderson did 711 at 350+ thats double his weight which to me is within reason for a natural lift.

    Physicality is still a very important part of boxing. Juice will give you a moderate edge, which isn't to say skill isn't important. If you have a sport played by hundreds of thousands of people where physicality is an important element such as boxing, it's a little ludicrous to expect the world champion to be natural.

  • @cyberkai99
    @cyberkai99 15 лет назад

    But isn't it odd to you that all of Scot's 700+ benches were not paused? Ed Coan was only judge for one of them, and Ryan himself said that Scot invites close friends as judges to make sure that they are touch and go. Mendelson isn't an idiot. He has trained his body to handle a 600+ paused bench, but pausing 700 is just suicide for msot people. Whereas Mendy could EASILY pause the weight, I don't think he wants to risk it, and that's my challenge to him.

  • @youz1uglybish
    @youz1uglybish 11 лет назад

    boxing,mma,football and basketball specifically..yes each sport has their cheaters but when you look at the guys who have been caught they werent the top guys anyway..when i start to see lebron james.kevin durant,floyd mayweather,andre ward,calvin johnson,anderson silva,jon jones,cain velasquez etc you got me...its just hard for me to beleive that you catch guys who are average athletes or fading champions but then you dont catch the guys who the spotlight shines the brightest on year after year

  • @SkizzyMcfrazzlepop
    @SkizzyMcfrazzlepop 11 лет назад

    I would definitely say that Henderson isn't natural, due to the fact that his best bench is like 10 pounds below the strongest raw bench press in the world. And one can be pretty certain that any strength record in the world isn't done naturally.

  • @SkizzyMcfrazzlepop
    @SkizzyMcfrazzlepop 11 лет назад

    No I'll tell you.
    The guy I responded to said that James Henderson was natural, and he 'knew' this because he spoke to him. I pointed out how ridiculous that was by using the same logic and saying that Ronnie Coleman is natural because I spoke to him. Of course Ronnie isn't natural. The point was, you can't say that somebody is natural just because they say so.

  • @guitarshredder849
    @guitarshredder849 13 лет назад

    @zgates well this arguement could possibly go on forever so the last Im gonna say is, you cant put limitations on anyone elses body. Saying he could never do twice his bodyweight without steroids is a ridiculous assumtion when you see that Mendelson did his 715 at 275, thats what someone on roids can do. I dont think he did, he says he never did, and thats what im gonna beleive, if you disagree then thats your opinion and you can have it.

  • @youz1uglybish
    @youz1uglybish 11 лет назад

    yeah we def have to agree to disagree on that...there are way too many variables to consider when breaking down ones athleticism to say ohhhhh look that guys runs a 4.2 in the 40 yard dash (he must be on roids) or to say look that guy is 250lbs with a 40+ inch vertical (he's on the juice) its not that simple.unless its just blatantly obvious you want to give a guy the benefit of the doubt.

  • @SkizzyMcfrazzlepop
    @SkizzyMcfrazzlepop 11 лет назад

    That's what I'm saying.
    When you have a highly physical sport with a large amount of people trying to be the best at it, especially STRENGTH related sports, it only makes perfect sense that the best people at it, are the ones with great genetics, great training, great diet... and great drugs. If you wake up in the body of a world class sprinter and keep dieting and training as they do, but stop taking steroids, then you'll be surpassed by guys who do.

  • @SkizzyMcfrazzlepop
    @SkizzyMcfrazzlepop 11 лет назад

    Anybody benching 700 pounds+ is naturally gifted. They just take steroids too.
    Usain Bolt is another example of a highly gifted athlete who is on steroids. If you think that the strongest or fastest man in the world is natural then you're living in a fairy tale. Unless you're playing lawn bowls, darts, etc then you can have amazing natural talent, but in the world league, you WILL be beaten by somebody with amazing natural talent who is also on steroids.

  • @TB473
    @TB473 11 лет назад

    Ronnie Coleman never claimed to be natural. And the reason I call them mentally weak is because they obviously see a weakness in themselves and that they can't achieve something on their own and that they need performance enhancing drugs to do it. Most of the guys who aren't natural either just admit it. Or they don't talk about it at all.

  • @SkizzyMcfrazzlepop
    @SkizzyMcfrazzlepop 11 лет назад

    Well at least this thing ran it's course without any insults.
    You criticise me for putting limits on things, when really, you do that too. You're just criticising me because I'm not at the same point on the continuum as you.
    Ronnie is natural, and if you disagree then you're limiting yourself. Don't put limits on other people.

    You're wrong. People don't always get caught for 'cheating' (even though whether it's cheating at all when the other top athletes do it is worthy of deep thought), that's not the way the world works. Some people get caught for steroids, and others don't.

    @guitarshredder849 i dont think any serious bencher will be that fat, 400 pound seems way to much to me, scot mendelson weight around 320 when he benched his 715 but he was never anywhere near 400, i think his max weight was 350 and now hes about 290 to 300, and like that dude said skiny guys can double their weight (like me) but for huge fat guys its nearly impossible

    The problem with this is that society is full of hypocrites. They dream of sports without steroids, and yet they've been spoilt by the amazing performances of enhanced athletes. If Olympic records reverted to what they were back in the 1960s, (as they largely would if it became impossible to take steroids and not get caught), people wouldn't flock to the stadiums in as greater numbers or pay close to as much as they do now. Pro sports know this on some level.
