Good video and one I've been waiting for. I played the original RPG to death back in the 80s, we had some great adventures across MC1. I've got the Warlord range as well, but am not very keen on the rules, I've used What a Cowboy for it instead.

Amazing video! I've only played "The cursed Earth", which is a small card game. Plays fast & fun, but is hard as nails. Would love to get into one of the RPGs or miniature games, though. Loved the 2000 AD stories as a Kid, Nemesis the Warlock, Strontium dog, Rogue trooper and Judge Dredd

I'm an old-school Tooth reader and old-school GW gamer, so I only played the first generation of these from GW, but they were all great. The boardgame was good madcap fun, the RPG really captured the world of the comics - but it was Block Mania that my friends and I played over and over again more than anything else from this range. I remember it being really elegant, considering all the 'moving parts' as it were, and having a good balance.

I remember stumbling upon Dredd first when visiting UK in the 80s and instantly being blown away by him. It was so fresh and different to the comics I had known before. Since then I became a fan and played quite some of the games you presented. Thoroughly enjoyed your video. I am always amazed at how you manage to continually come up with interesting topics. Thank you for your work and the great relaxed way of presentation!

Great Video. Judge Dredd is back. Sadly forgotten is Chainsaw Warrior. The single most fast paced, brutal and merciless game i know. From Games Workshop 1987. No Rerelease in sight here. Sure the game had some flaws. That's why i overworked all rules where it makes sense. On Top i made a two player coop modus for the game. Wish i can make a rerelease if this great game with the revised rule.

Love these history videos! I have about 12 of the original Arbiters that I collected back in the day because they reminded me of Dredd, including the ones you shown. I believe I had the Dredd rpg back then but no models for it which most likely means my small local gaming store didn't have any. Man, late 80's - early 90's GW stuff was so awesome. The band Anthrax came out with I am the Law in the 80's and it rocked.

The judge dredd boardgame was the first "hobby" boardgame I bought. I loved how the combo of perp/crime cards could create wacky combos like Judge Death arrested for Sugar Smuggling :) Reading the White Dwarf articles I desperately wanted a copy of Block Mania but never got it. I was so delighted that Rebellion reprinted the game I bought a copy for myself as a christmas present and left it wrapped under the tree.

On a technical note - the volume levels on this one were all over the place. I could tell which bits of audio you'd recorded when because the volume kept jumping from "a little quiet" to "a little loud" to "oh, wow, that's kind of unpleasantly loud." Not the ideal listening experience when running your videos in the background to some painting. :)

Great video. I've only played the Warlord tabletop game of Dredd; earlier this year at Adepticon a friend ran a couple of us through a demo and I'm sorry to say my street judge and his rookie didn't fare too well. Then, in June, I also took a tour of the Warlord Games factory and picked up a few odds & ends, including Dredd dice, tokens, rules and the big man himself. I'll need to get him painted up in time for next year's rematch @ Adepticon. I've got various street-gang appropriate minis but lack those cards Andy Chambers was talking about. I'll get a hold of them somehow... perhaps on Black Friday or Christmas morning if I'm lucky. Do I feel lucky?

    SPUG THE LAW!!!!!
I've got the Mongoose figures from their Monty Haul KS. Warlord taking it over was the greatest thing to happen for Matt. The game is pretty damn solid, and the gameplay is smooth, in the Warlord way. The new game cleans up the Mongoose rules, and gives for a faster, in-depth play.
Mongoose's first iteration was abysmal, but I gave them a pass, because the game was cheap as balls to get on sale, when I picked it up. The figures were pretty rough, and made out of that craptastic plastic that they came in.
As a game, The new Warlord game is a tabletop wargame that is best at low numbers on a good table.

I really enjoyed the GW RPG back in the day, though I'm not sure how well it would stack up against more recent rpg systems. In my humble opinion Helter Skelter is the best Dredd / 2000ad boardgame. I've played it a lot with friends who know nothing about 2000ad and they've really enjoyed it for it's mechanics and gameplay.

I've not watched far enough in this yet to see if you cover Black Mania, that is lurking in the back of the cupboard too. I notice you did a Fury of Dracule recently too... that was an all time favourite, but sadly succumbed to a basement flood sometime in the early 00's.

I have a few friends who have or have had the GW RPG, mainly I remember them being a touch critical about how incompetent trained-since-childhood street judge PCs are, with I think 30% being a common chance of hitting a perp with a Lawgiver!

Here’s a fun fact for you Jordan, Judge Dredd’s name was supposedly inspired by a 1960s record by Jamaican Ska superstar ‘Prince Buster’.
On the tongue in cheek record ‘Judge Dread’, Buster assumes the role of the eponymous Judge and deals out disproportionate sentences to a variety of youth offenders (played by members of the band), over a jovial Ska rhythm.

One thing i remember hearing from someone who play it at the time the game was fun but not fun in the playably aspect a judge cadet with 15 years of training had 15% chanche of hitting something compare to a street thug who had around 35% so you were obligated to use melee where you have 25% to hit so that makes me wonder who do you even play that

Regrettably as an American my first exposure to Dredd in the late 80s was from an acquaintance who A) thought Judge Dredd was the best thing ever, which would have been fine if not for B) them completely missing the parody aspect of the comic. Sadly it's left me vaguely disinterested in the franchise, though I do own the Mongoose d20 RPG. And I do have a fondness for the Arbitrator class from FFG's Dark Heresy...
