  • Using the PCW3000 Portable Winch in a steep sided ravine in Scotland to move some previously felled ash trees with a PCW3000 Portable Petrol / Gasoline Capstan Winch.
We are also using the custom choker designed for the winch. It compliments the winch very well.
We could not use the fixed tree mount for the winch in this case - the downward angle is too great. A sling provided the necessary flexibility and protected the anchor tree.
I temporarily sling the rope around a cut stump to move the tree in that direction to ensure it clears an oak next to where we are working.
At one stage the tree decides to pick up some brash on its journey, making the whole load considerably harder to drag uphill.

How do you like the 3000? They say it’s more for hunters?

Hi. Thanks for the comment. It's plenty enough for us - if we need more pulling power we just double up the pulleys. More than that we get the machines in to do the heavy lifting. It's also a fairly heavy set up to carry around - the bigger PCW 5000 would be a lot heavier to manually move into hard to access places.
