You forgot the confusion between the bread and the male genital in Portuguese. My friend can speak 4 languages. He was talking to a Brazilian girl and wanted to ask: do you want bread? That is wonderful that are having conversations already! Practicing is the secret to becoming comfortable with the language. I tell my students to speak Portuguese with their pets, talk to themselves, sing, anything that gets you to speak the language :)
This is just fantastic! I'm moving to Salvador Bahia this summer to teach at an Int'l school, and while I know a fair amount of Spanish, it only helps occasionally with Brazilian Portuguese. Your Streetsmart videos are tremendous help!

I'm persian.. and I need to spread out my experience with portugese people. I have never ever met such a noble and honest people as Portugese people. I love you. Those few portugese people i have had the previlage to know, have been the kindest and funniest people i have ever met. One portugese guy, who i worked with, was so kind. @SilverEspada That is a good point. The sound of the "s" has many variations. It may sound like a "z" when one word ends in "s" and the following word starts with a vowel. In these cases, we pronounce the two words together and the "s" may get a "z" sound. For instance: "todos os dias". Some people will pronounce a clear "s" while others will make it sound like "todozos dias". I hope that answers your question.

I am glad that you want to learn Portuguese! The Jiu Jitsu community uses a lot of Portuguese and practitioners of the sport usually develop an interest in the language. Portuguese and Spanish are good friends :) Learning one will eventually help learning the other.
I'm learning Portuguese after having learned Spanish, and I got confused with the word "borracha" when I saw it written (even though they sound completely different when spoken). (Spanish) Ella ha tomado mucha cerveza y ahora esta borracha. (Portuguese) Eu escrevi a palavra errada, voce tem uma borracha?
Hahaha, great story! Muito obrigada for posting here :) The gerund in Portuguese ends in -ndo. And every verb is regular in the gerund. One thing to observe is that often times we use the infinitive in Portuguese when in English we use the gerund. I have a video on that. It is called Infinitive as the Subject. It is easy to learn and very useful to know. Check it out :)

General, yes. There are exceptions. When a noun ends in "a", it is usually feminine. When it ends in "o", usually masculine. Nouns that end in "ação", "dade" and "agem" are usually feminine. Those that end in "ema" or in a consonant are usually masculine. Nouns that end in "ista", "ante" and "ente" have one form for both masculine and feminine. We don't have a masculine and a feminine of the same object. Tesoura is always feminine. Tesouro is a different object and is always masculine.
I'm want to learn Portuguese because my son, who forgot all his Spanish has been in Brazilian Jujistu for some time and has picked up the Portuguese language. He now speaks/ understands more Portuguese than his first language...Español!

Youre a really good teacher. I been looking at many diferent languages and notised many funny examples of same words with diffrent meaning, hey are there words in spanish and portugese that are like that because theres a lot of them in my language finnish and estonian. Sometimes we Fins think we know what Estonian is saying even though we have completly misunderstood and vice verca.

The "a" should be nasal. But he did not nasalize it.
+Sierra K LOL It needs practice. Pão = bread is pronounced with a nasal sound. Pau = wood is pronounced with an open, non nasal A.

Same thing. You can use also: "Eu tomei bastante café de manhã". I think that "bastante" is more appropriate than "muito" (in this specifc case!).

Yes, we can understand each other quite well in Portuguese and Spanish. The trick is to get the correct pronunciation :)
