I've been hiking on and around the GDT for all of my life, but I'm hoping to through hike it once I finish my undergrad at the u of a. You capture the Rockies really well here, there is really nothing that compares :)
Hey Jeff! Thx for documenting and editing what you experienced! I was out on C-F last summer so it was cool seeing your perspective on the trail, and also seeing the weather differences 😆. You had more wet/cold stuff that’s for sure. But wow, you had great weather on the Six Passes, and on that time you guys spent above the clouds there...my goodness. I agree: “fricken unreal” haha. Those were my exact words so many times on the trail haha. You got me excited for coming back to A-B this summer ✌🏻. I did a video too if you wanna check that out.
You had some fantastic shots. A few were too short, and the text you added was often not on the screen long enough to read. But that river crossing shot. I would have really appreciated a few more seconds of it just from a learning perspective on how to cross big streams at high water. Otherwise well done, super jealous.
Thanks for the feedback, it helps a lot. And yeah I wish I had actual footage of the Smokey river crossing, that was all I had and it was actually just a live photo taken on my iphone. The crossing was intense to say the least. I crossed a total of 5 times, helping the other people I was with, and afterward I was so cold I couldn't feel anything below my waist... filming was not on my mind, that's for sure. But basically just take it slow, and make sure each footing is solid before moving forward.
Awesome video!!! I’m planning on doing the GDT in 2021 what gear did you use and did it work well? This will be my first thru hike so I’m building my gear list from scratch. Any advice would be amazing!
I only encountered one. It was fairly close but it ran away after a few seconds. Other people I met hiking the trail said they had seen a lot more than me though.
I've been dreaming to do the GDT for a while now. I'm from Niagara and have travelled a lot, but not my own country. Did you meet a decent amount of people on the trail? Were there a lot of female solo hikers? I'd be a bit worried going by myself
In total I only met about 8 people who were thru hiking the trail. Pretty much all of them started solo, but a few did hike as a group for a bit. Also about half of them were female. The only worry I heard about from female hikers was about the hitch out of Section G, on "The Highway of Tears", where there is a bad history of women hitching on. Other than that the main threats are bears and mosquitos.
not really. there are many sections posted no bikes and many sections that would be near impossible on a bike. however there is a similar route called the Great Divide Mountain bike Trail: bikepacking.com/routes/great-divide-mountain-bike-route-gdmbr/
What should my next thru hike be in 2021?
Zuber Outdoors PNT? Sunshine Coast Trail?
@@jeffschroeder886 both good options. I've been considering the CDt to connect to the GDT, but who know what will happen.
Zuber Outdoors that was my next suggestion ✌🏻
Such amazing Mountains!
Indeed!

Wow, awesome landscapes!
I don't know if any hike can live up to this one!
@@zuberoutdoors6137 No that would be hard to beat!
Beautiful scenery. Really hope to do this trail next year! Or soon!
the scenery was truly insane! you will not regret doing this trail!
Zuber Outdoors bro!!! I just got official approval from work! Doing this next summer!!
@@BackcountryForward UNREAL! Nothing like telling your work you need 2 months off to go for a hike, haha! I hope you enjoy it!
Zuber Outdoors and nothing like hearing them say YES!

Awesome vid. How were the grizz? Any close encounters?

DO THE PCT!!!
looks awsome but is it really a solo through hike if someone goes with you?
I planned the hike solo and my sister ended up joining me for one week because she saw how awesome it was. So call it what you will.
