This is an amazing review. I think the meandering and wandering of the narrative is to indicate that it’s a journal of the main character. This is my first time seeing a video this channel and I enjoyed it. Thanks for taking the time to review.
I really loved this when I read it but it has been a few years now and I am not sure if it would hold up now that I've seen your review. I also liked it at the time because I lived in Uptown and seeing my neighborhood depicted was so cool. The craziest thing about this author is that she was paralyzed after getting West Nile virus and had to re-learn how to draw/walk/etc. Her Fresh Air interview is what made me pick this up. I think that made me appreciate it more, too.
This was the first time I read a graphic novel. I'm very impressed how Emill Ferris was able to develop the characters so well. I feel very invested in them, and I want to see what happens. So that's why I'm disappointed that the second book is not out and available. Her illustrations are astonishing. I can't imagine how she's able to show such subtle emotions and reactions and tell so much of the story through the slightest change of light or shading. And doing this with what appears to be Bic pens!
I’ve started exploring graphic novels the last couple months. I got this for Christmas but haven’t read it yet. Your description of a it reading like a 24 episode tv show sounds appealing to me.
I remember when so many people were talking about this! I felt intimidated by the art style and wasn't sure if I would get on with the story. I find the origins of this comic and how impressive the art and design are to be the most interesting things about it for me. I probably won't read it, but I'm glad it's out there because so many people seemed to love it back when it was released.
I remember wanting to DNF it about halfway through. I prefer comics and graphic novels with a strong plot. And I saw so many high ratings for it that I assumed a plot would emerge as it got closer to the end. But I was disappointed!
Honestly I wouldn’t, the horror aspect is just Karen coping with the world because she like monsters and that how she can escape reality. Their isn’t actually real horror in this, the plot is weak.

I’ll have to look up that interview. Thanks

Agreed. I'm glad I checked it out but it is one of those things that I know is not for me but I'm glad exists

Hi Rincey! Listening to this, I'm getting vibes of WE HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE CASTLE, which I loved. Is this book similar?
I haven't read it, so I can't say! But it definitely has much more like B-list horror movie vibes than like gothic horror, if that helps
Do you recommand it for a 14 years old boy that is mature for his age and read book like Stephen King?

I DNF’d this one. I got so distracted by the detail of the art that I lost interest in the narration. It is wonderful to look at, though.
