I love this, and watched it shortly after Neil passed. The affection and respect they had for each other was refreshing and unique in the world of music . The best band in the world ever.
@ peter mitchell I agree. There was not one ounce of animosity displayed. These guys are like brothers from different mothers. It’s the type of connection that allows for great music.
Alex's best line happens near the end of the documentary "Beyond the Lighted Stage", when the interviewer asks them why they keep touring. Alex replies, "The chicks." Such a great inside Rush joke, since their audience was historically 90+% male.
I love it when the waiter serves Alex and announces the name of the dish being served "pork belly". And then Alex says without a beat, "what did you call me?" Hilarious!
Back about 2006, I saw Rush in Houston. We had pretty good seats, about 5th row. Near us was a couple, and the lady wasn't having a good time, and sat there with her arms crossed. At one point, Alex looks at her, and crosses his arms with a stink-eye look on his face.
@Christine Pattison He was also in their movie with Canadian actor Maury Chakin, Alex and Maury were undercover cops in drag ,I laughed so hard I spit my drink out.
They used the three stooges in their videos, the song "Three Blind Mice" in intros, and of course their riff on the three travelers and "The Lord of the Rings."
Jamel, you NEED to watch their HOF Induction videos! The love that room had for them that night was overwhelming and brings chills to me every time I watch them. The first time they are introduced, the entire place looses it!!! So worth the watch!
Thanks so much to reacting to this, I never could've imagined seeing a reactor do this. I am so thankful for your appreciation of Rush. They were such a formative band for me, and it's often hard for me to explain why these guys are so important to me. Watching this makes me so appreciative of what a genuine friendship between three guys gave all of us. I HIGHLY recommend you dig more into the Clockwork Angels album. Headlong Flight especially is basically the culmination of Rush packed into one song. I guarantee you'll love it!
He'll most likely pick it up again. He also mentioned in that interview that the same thing happened when Neil lost his daughter and then wife in quick succession. He was hurting so bad for Neil he just wasn't interested in making music for a couple of years. I can understand, but I hope I never have to go through pain like that 💙
I saw that same skit and can't blame him. I even felt the same way, considering I play mostly Rush songs on guitar. It took me months before I even wanted to touch the instrument again.
Some backstory: Alex and Geddy met in Junior High school at 14 years of age and have been friends ever since. 40+ years later of being in the band and they teased Neil forever about being "the new guy".
Yes!!! I'm so glad someone clued you in to this..one of the best parts of that documentary (the whole thing is amazing!). Please please please react to Cygnus X-1, Jacob's Ladder, Analog Kid, and Between the Wheels. Love ya man!
So cathartic watching this. They are so great together, in more ways than just musically, it’s heartwarming, but knowing they cannot do this any more, and we cannot be the beneficiaries, is heartwrenching. I have been a fan since 1981, have met Geddy, and have seen them live dozens of times, they are the soundtrack of my life. And I find new appreciation every time I hear them, no matter how many times. Long live Rush, on to 2112!
I'm in my garage working out and listening to this... I pretended I was at the next table listening in. Smile on my face the whole time knowing how much fun they were having. Thanks Jamel sharing this... really enjoy your take on things... that also makes me smile.
This was a bonus feature on one of their live DVDs. Just watch any live version of La Villa Strangiato from the 2002 or 2004 tours, and you'll see what kind of character Alex is. And then of course there is his Rock and Roll hall of Fame induction speech.
The closest we could get to sitting at the table with them. I love the insights into their relationship and creative processes. Funny guys, world class musicians, and apparent great people.
Fantastic Jamel, I am so stoked that you finally have seen this "Dinner" video!! Alex is a laugh riot and there are other documentaries talking about when he was younger in tour with the band KISS, and he had a bit he did when he was drunk dealing with having a bag on his head! They are truly a COOL band👍👍Rest Well Neil, we love ya! Keep watching Jamel, we will😁
These guys were so down to earth, you would never believe they were famous in any way! All they cared about was making good music, & making a difference with the lyrics in their songs 💖💖💖 Canadians ROCK 😎😎😎
buddy thank you for this. i will admit i have seen it before as i am a life long rush fan. but it brought a smile to my face watching your reaction. at the end of the day they are friends.... but they make outstanding music.. its always been friends first, music second. im 42 yrs old and i have one friend that i am still friends with. every time we meet, years inbetween, we are like this. we live 1000 mile apart but pick up where we last left, laugh, tease each other and have a good time. i appreciate your joy in watching this. thank you
Aw, thank you for this. Canada has lost two of it's treasured artists in Neil Peart and Gordon Downie from The Tragically Hip in the last few years. Please Please react to The Tragically Hip...New Orleans is Sinking, Courage, Wheat Kings. 💖💖💖
Thanks so much for the reaction to this! You have me going down "memory lane" with the Steely Dan clips and you bring in these 3 "knuckleheads" in the mix! I'm smiling ear to ear, remembering a chance meeting I had with them back in 1974, before the KISS tour, albums 2112 and Moving Pictures. Fortune shines on me with these guys again in 2015 with families in tow in 3 buses! R. I. P. Neal, you inspired me to take my drumming to the next level(s) and to write lyrics . . . from "across to falls". Peace
this is them as friends the best of friends, i smile everytime i see this, who knew a band can be so close?? there is not alot of bands out there is that close to each other, they loved to play music they are a once in a generation talent. they worked so hard to get where they are, Brother Niel Peart my be gone but his music will last forever, so good to see Geddy, alex and niel sitting at a table, laughing and having such a good time enjoying each other company. Nobody in music perfession would share this with there fans. who is just as passionate about RUSH as they are about the music they play. it means alot to see RUSH as individuals outside the music, we all have enjoyed over the years, Geddy and Alex Both are discussing doing something musically again. but for Geddy he poured his heart into his collection of bases, put a book about it, and Alex did start playing again released some new music,
I so needed this today ♥️ Thank you. Can you imagine just sitting there with them and observing? Wow 💖 Everyone should have a friendship like these guys ♥️
Loved watching your playlist for Rush. They are a great iconic Canadian band! I wish you would do a play list of The Tragically Hip, another iconic Canadian band. Their final concert was televised for the ENTIRE COUNTRY and world! (August 20, 2016, 11.7 Million people world wide watched). This was their final show as lead singer Gord Downie was diagnosed with a brain tumor and passed away October 2017. Our country mourned then and again when Neil Peart passed but we love when others discover their love for our iconic bands! I wish I could tell you where to start in listening to "The Hip" but they have so many great songs that I wouldn't know where to begin. I don't think I could even nail down a favorite album. If you do choose to listen , maybe start with the "Fully Completely" album or "Up to Here", "Day for Night", "Road Apples"..... just too many great albums and songs to name just one. You could even look at the set list from their final concert. It was full of so many beloved songs.
They are so smart and funny and goofy! I spent a lot of years working with rock and roll bands and this is what they act like. Thanks for sharing this!
I didn't know that video existed, either. Brought tears. Miss you, Neil. Love Alex and Getty. Blessed to have been alive when this incredible band put out such incredible music.
PLEASE watch the Rush documentary called “Beyond the Lighted Stage” it got a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Also this clip is from that documentary.. it’s a must watch if you like Rush.. it’s simply life changing.
One of my favorite Rush songs is The Larger Bowl from the Snakes and Arrows album. There's a great live recording from their tour in Rotterdam, the backing visuals they use are just great. Highly recommend. :)
Great choice for a reaction. Watching it again since his passing really chokes me up. It was 2010 so they were gearing up to write Clockwork Angels. I’d love to see you do something off of that album. I think you did The Garden live but there’s so much more good stuff on that album. Headlong Flight (my favorite) Caravan The Anarchist The Wreckers I put that album right up there with their classic late 70s early 80s stuff. Peace!!
Very awesome you reacted to this. Probably not a ton of views coming, but to us extremely loyal fans of yours and Rush, very much appreciated. Lots of respect.
There was an interview with Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee in Guitar Player magazine back in the 90s that opened with them walking through the LA Guitar Center together. They passed a display of guitars by Paul Reed Smith, the brand Alex used at the time, which is commonly abbreviated PRS. Alex cracks, "PRS - what's that stand for, penis reduction system?" Geddy says, "Didn't you try one of those once?" Alex says, "Yeah, but it didn't work on me." 😆😆😆
Awesome reaction! You can tell by the video that these are three best friends that have so much respect and love for each other. The love that they have for each other comes through in their music. RIP Neil Peart.
It so cool they were such great friends and able to keep the band going so many years. Quite a few famous bands members would not speak to each other, things like that. Still made great music, and but much more fun and relaxing to be friends I would say.
2 thing’s 1. You should watch their Jam Session when they elected into the Rock N Roll HOF. It included Cornell, Morello, Clark Jr, Heart, DMC, Chuck D, and many more. 2. Watch or Rewatch “I love you Man” lots of Rush love! Love your channel and your reactions. Great to see you expend your plethora of music.
Their whole dinner had me in tears, their camaraderie and friendship shows through and the personality and the look inside a group, of spectacular human beings.
Imagine these guys sitting having a beer at some open jam where no one knows who they are, and someone says, "What are you old guys doing here? Think you can outplay my band or something?" Man, the world is a sadder place without RUSH. Dammit, Neil. RIP, Professor!
Yes I very much enjoyed this. In fact I saw it myself for the first time earlier today. And I said it looks like these guys you would like to have a beer with. Very down to earth. And creative, musical geniuses.
It's one of the things that makes these guys so special - aside from their obvious place at the top of the musical ladder, these guys never came off as 'full of themselves' rock stars, but just normal guys who loved each other and loved to be goofballs! That same sense of humility and humour was always evident in their shows as well.
Great musicians, great food, obviously great wine, your bound to get so much humor. What made it even better is there character! What a absolutely wonderful video! I loved seeing this, especially since Neil Peart is gone.
They have some really good skits they used to sometimes show before their concerts. My favorites are the one before the Time Machine tour and the Clockwork Angels tour.
This is an absolute treasure. I discovered this shortly after Neil's passing and it made me feel so much better. These guys... THESE GUYS!! These absolute madman cut-ups! This is a side of them I had never seen! Alex Lifeson is the clown cracking everyone up! Geddy is the sly wit. And Neil is mostly the straight man but occasionally throws a surprising zinger in. You can absolutely feel the love and chemistry of these guys.
jamel or jamel which ever you prefer😆 love your reactions. if the world had more people like you who knows how great it would be!!! you should check out these 3 canadian knuckleheads get inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame. so awesome so overly deserved!!! greatest band EVER!!! RIP Pratt😔 RUSH FAN 4EVER
Brother Jamal, I've been watching you review music for a couple of years now and watching you talk so highly of probably one of my favorite bands, Rush, makes me feel like we have a lot more in common in music. Thanks for all the good vibes, genuiness of a human being and an inspiration. Keep it up my brother. Peace to you and yours and as always, God Bless.
Rush is my favorite band of all time and it's so great to see this video with all three of them together. After seeing them live on the R40 tour I thought they might do one more set of shows for a 45th or 50th anniversary. So sad to lose the legendary Neil Peart.
Seen this befor, enjoy watching it again. If you get a DVD of Rush in Rio there is a bonus DVD of the guys behind the scenes as they arrive in Brazil for the last of three shows they did there. Fan meet and greets, in the hotel rooms etc. Fantastic, watched it again the other night. You should get it if you haven't already.
I watched this along with you.... I seen this maybe 200 times and I still tear with laughter over it. It was great to hear your journey through it. Peace.
I first saw this band at Coventry theatre on the hemispheres tour (UK). I was 11 years old I was absolutely blow away . The rest they say is history..............
That was really cool. Checking the RUSH groove. I’ve never seen much of their offstage antics. Long time friends having an awesome dinner and letting the creative juices flow. What a group! 🎸🥁🤘
See what Alex did at their R&R Hall of Fame Induction. Also at the R&R H.of F., Geddy Lee inducted the band Yes, and then played "Roundabout" with them.
I've never seen this. Thanks for reacting with me! I've had the pleasure to see these guys live only 4 times, but they can bring a brother to tears.. RIP. Brother Neil.
These 3 goofballs are the greatest musicians to ever walk the earth, who knew? 😎
@I'm a Ba Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na na Just my opinion that's all..
Which Canadians are a better guitar player and bass player? Just wondering...(hoping you name guys from Loverboy).
@I'm a Ba Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na na geddys voice is definitely not the best, but it seem to work for their songs.
I knew 😄😋
@I'm a Ba Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na na , put down the bong...
Do yourself a favor and watch the documentary Beyond the Lighted Stage, the story of Rush. Great insights into the band and their personalities.
Time Stand Still is even better, but hard to find.
@@runswithbeer I don't think I've seen that. I might have and don't remember.
This dinner video is from that documentary.
Kristina it’s on Netflix right now. Not too hard to find ;)
@@runswithbeer Thanks for the recommendation, will have to search it out now.
I love this, and watched it shortly after Neil passed. The affection and respect they had for each other was refreshing and unique in the world of music . The best band in the world ever.
Same three people in a band from the start to the end. How it should be.
Thomas Meyer almost, can’t forget John Rutsey. :)
You feel their love for each other. Such happy times
Alex replies, "The chicks."
Such a great inside Rush joke, since their audience was historically 90+% male.
I love it when the waiter serves Alex and announces the name of the dish being served "pork belly". And then Alex says without a beat, "what did you call me?" Hilarious!
That’s my favourite moment in the video along with “balalala” “don’t kill Pratt it’s not good for business”
I’ve stolen that line since watching this haha . Been using it for years
Back about 2006, I saw Rush in Houston. We had pretty good seats, about 5th row. Near us was a couple, and the lady wasn't having a good time, and sat there with her arms crossed. At one point, Alex looks at her, and crosses his arms with a stink-eye look on his face.
Can just imagine Alex doing that!!
XD
Lol.
@Christine Pattison He was also in their movie with Canadian actor Maury Chakin, Alex and Maury were undercover cops in drag ,I laughed so hard I spit my drink out.
She was 1 of 7 women at that concert...
Pratt, Dirk and Lerxst - 3 musketeers? 3 stooges? 3 amigos.
Circa 2010.
They used the three stooges in their videos, the song "Three Blind Mice" in intros, and of course their riff on the three travelers and "The Lord of the Rings."
As a Canadian myself I can honestly say that we do not take ourselves too seriously overall we pretty humble people and a little crazy.
Jamel, you NEED to watch their HOF Induction videos! The love that room had for them that night was overwhelming and brings chills to me every time I watch them. The first time they are introduced, the entire place looses it!!! So worth the watch!

This is amazing
Three great friends having fun
Rest in Peace, "Professor"
Alex was interviewed recently and says he hasn’t played guitar since Neil passed away. Very sad.
His heart is broken.
He'll most likely pick it up again. He also mentioned in that interview that the same thing happened when Neil lost his daughter and then wife in quick succession. He was hurting so bad for Neil he just wasn't interested in making music for a couple of years. I can understand, but I hope I never have to go through pain like that 💙
Understandable. In time I hope Geddy and Alex can heal and begin again their creative partnership 🙏🏼
I saw that same skit and can't blame him. I even felt the same way, considering I play mostly Rush songs on guitar. It took me months before I even wanted to touch the instrument again.
Omg that’s sad. But understandable.
"All the die-hard Rush fans" became die-hard Jamel fans long ago. Peace bruddah!
Yup! This one did! Hey, Jamel, if you ever make it to Albany, meet me at AJ's! ^_^
Some backstory: Alex and Geddy met in Junior High school at 14 years of age and have been friends ever since. 40+ years later of being in the band and they teased Neil forever about being "the new guy".
They have been together for decades and they still got along this well.. Other bands take note, it's not about your ego.
You should watch the Rush Documentary "Beyond the lighted stage". An excellent movie on the history and character of the band.
You won't be disappointed.
I was just gonna recommend the same. An awesome production for sure. Nicely done Hockey
The story behind this dinner is very complicated. I would love to tell it to you Jamal, I don't know if you want to listen to it
When Neil said "I dont even buy green bananas". My heart had a chill. I wish that there had been more time.
Awesome footage glad you watched this. So unrockstar like but so Canadian
100%
Watch the Canadian satirical show, Trailer Park Boys, Alex is in a couple episodes. It's on Netflix.
Don’t they kidnap him in one episode!??
Play that Dianne Sawyer song
The kidnapping 😂😂😂😂
Yeah, its " decent".😄
gimme a R-O-C-K helix was a hell of concert i sold a lot of dope at that one
I've come to love these guys, they are so nice and down to earth. They were the perfect band mates.
These guys are so Canadian it hurts. RIP Neil, you are the GOAT
"Tom Hanks and Dave Matthews" 😂😂😂
Instant like
That dinner was the conception of “Clockwork Angels”.
Really!!! That album was the best peice of work they did in a long time. Start to finish a great album
I'm in my garage working out and listening to this... I pretended I was at the next table listening in. Smile on my face the whole time knowing how much fun they were having. Thanks Jamel sharing this... really enjoy your take on things... that also makes me smile.
RIP Neil Peart
There will never be another drummer like Neil Peart, and there will never be another RUSH. And now I’m crying.
Sad but true... At least we were born in their time.
This was a bonus feature on one of their live DVDs. Just watch any live version of La Villa Strangiato from the 2002 or 2004 tours, and you'll see what kind of character Alex is. And then of course there is his Rock and Roll hall of Fame induction speech.
This was a bonus feature on "Beyond the Lighted Stage".
Love how you love Rush! I love your sincere reactions and love for these 3 legends. It would be fun to have dinner with YOU!
The closest we could get to sitting at the table with them.
I love the insights into their relationship and creative processes. Funny guys, world class musicians, and apparent great people.
So laid back for a progressive rock band. Having that connection as not only musicians but as friends is rare and they will always be my favorite band
Keep watching Jamel, we will😁
"Howie, where's the bag???" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
These guys were so down to earth, you would never believe they were famous in any way! All they cared about was making good music, & making a difference with the lyrics in their songs 💖💖💖 Canadians ROCK 😎😎😎
SCTV reference: "Mayor Tommy Shanks" (played by John Candy).
I caught that. Made me laugh. A Canadian legend referencing another Canadian legend!!!
buddy thank you for this. i will admit i have seen it before as i am a life long rush fan. but it brought a smile to my face watching your reaction. at the end of the day they are friends.... but they make outstanding music.. its always been friends first, music second. im 42 yrs old and i have one friend that i am still friends with. every time we meet, years inbetween, we are like this. we live 1000 mile apart but pick up where we last left, laugh, tease each other and have a good time. i appreciate your joy in watching this. thank you

Fiddlers Green.
Yeah I am for many Hip songs, Locked in the trunk of a car.
Hundredth Meridian, Grace Too, ahead by a Century. Long list.
So many great Hip and Rush songs he needs to definitely do a reaction video to both bands!!
Incredible musicians and such funny and grounded people. All of their concerts had great comic segments. RUSH Rules!!!
6:00 "that was a Mayor Tommy Shanks move" ahh, Rush mentioning SCTV. Beautiful.
great video, thanks for this.....behind the music of Rush, you have 3 of the most down-to-earth, humble human beings.
These were three friends who had been working together for 36 years at that point. Let that sink in.
Thanks so much for the reaction to this! You have me going down "memory lane" with the Steely Dan clips and you bring in these 3 "knuckleheads" in the mix! "there is no downside to writing songs" words for all to live by.
They are so smart and funny and goofy! I spent a lot of years working with rock and roll bands and this is what they act like. Thanks for sharing this!
You should totally listen more of their last album Clockwork Angels! Heaglong Flight is a jam!
Love the nod to Bastille Day in Headlong Flight.
I have seen this numerous times and it never gets old. This is pure love for one another and chemistry with one another. RIP Neil.
Watch 'A Show of Hands', Alex's personality shines throughout the entire concert!
I've never been a Rush fan, but I truly enjoyed this video. Your reactions are priceless!!!!!
I can't wait to get back to this with my friends, joking and smiling is the best cure for this virus. Keep safe and keep rocking brother!
I didn't know that video existed, either. Brought tears. Miss you, Neil. Love Alex and Getty. Blessed to have been alive when this incredible band put out such incredible music.

I've seen this video many times, I enjoy coming back to it again. Now you know why they've remained friends and band mates. Good times.
Friendship and humor and wine are the cornerstones of their career lasting 40+ years.
One of my favorite Rush songs is The Larger Bowl from the Snakes and Arrows album. There's a great live recording from their tour in Rotterdam, the backing visuals they use are just great. Highly recommend. :)
When Geddy says that was a Mayor Tommy Shanks move this is what he was talking about. ruclips.net/video/QWjVZ9pt6To/видео.html

Headlong Flight (my favorite)
Caravan
The Anarchist
The Wreckers
I put that album right up there with their classic late 70s early 80s stuff.
Peace!!
You really need to see Rick Wakeman‘s Yes Rock and Roll Hall of Fame speech!!
Very awesome you reacted to this. Probably not a ton of views coming, but to us extremely loyal fans of yours and Rush, very much appreciated. Lots of respect.

Awesome reaction! You can tell by the video that these are three best friends that have so much respect and love for each other. The love that they have for each other comes through in their music. RIP Neil Peart.
Don't think you have reacted to Hemispheres yet
Lol thatll take a while.
It so cool they were such great friends and able to keep the band going so many years. Quite a few famous bands members would not speak to each other, things like that. Still made great music, and but much more fun and relaxing to be friends I would say.
The chemistry between Geddy, Neil and Alex will never be matched
The only other trio I can think of is Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond
2 thing’s

Diehard RUSH fans not only have SEEN this video; we OWN it.
Their whole dinner had me in tears, their camaraderie and friendship shows through and the personality and the look inside a group, of spectacular human beings.
You should react to their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction speech!
DUDE!!! I can't believe you reacted to this. This is by far the best part of Beyond The Lighted Stage. You, sir, rock.
Imagine these guys sitting having a beer at some open jam where no one knows who they are, and someone says, "What are you old guys doing here? Think you can outplay my band or something?"
Man, the world is a sadder place without RUSH. Dammit, Neil. RIP, Professor!

They are all soooo drunk, even before starters; I love it. These three guys-you can see how much they love each other. It's beautiful.
And to think that the waiter had NO IDEA who these guys were musically.
This is Alex and Geddy's restaurant in Toronto....
@@trumpetmano They are the owners or they frequently visit this place? Thanks for the clarification.
@@paulgarcia1566 Geddy is the 100% owner now. They are also wine connoisseurs...Alex and Geddy have huge wine collections
It's one of the things that makes these guys so special - aside from their obvious place at the top of the musical ladder, these guys never came off as 'full of themselves' rock stars, but just normal guys who loved each other and loved to be goofballs! That same sense of humility and humour was always evident in their shows as well.
I've seen this a couple of times and these guys are funny as shit.
Greatest friendship these guys had...Love them..
Really Enjoy This
💙🎸💙🥁💙🎸💙
Great musicians, great food, obviously great wine, your bound to get so much humor. What made it even better is there character! What a absolutely wonderful video! I loved seeing this, especially since Neil Peart is gone.
Thanks for the break.
They have some really good skits they used to sometimes show before their concerts. My favorites are the one before the Time Machine tour and the Clockwork Angels tour.
seeing Neil makes me so sad.
I Really did have dinner with Rush! and i got to party with them back in 1976.
Check out their speeches for their induction into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame! You'll laugh your ass off!
See what Alex did at their R&R Hall of Fame Induction. Also at the R&R H.of F., Geddy Lee inducted the band Yes, and then played "Roundabout" with them.
Tears listening to the greatest band ever in my opinion,ty for this content
I've never seen this. Thanks for reacting with me! I've had the pleasure to see these guys live only 4 times, but they can bring a brother to tears.. RIP. Brother Neil.
