I had to hire a trainer a year after my knee surgery to help me develop leg strength post surgery. Therapy just got me to walk without a cane and that’s about it. I still have pain, but it’s getting better.
I use my cat for the stand up sit down exercise & weighs 15 lbs …. maybe I’m overdoing it 😂😂 By the way, I have gotten a LOT of value from your videos, your passion to help is great!
Thanks Dr. Samantha-always great information…your videos were a great help to me as I recovered from my recent TKR’s-I sincerely appreciated and utilized the knowledge you graciously presented!
Dr. Sam, do you have a video on knee strengthening excercises before the knee replacement? I am scheduled in July and will watch these videos again, thank you-
a tale of two staircases - I am one year out from knee replacement. Walking, sitting, bending is fine except for going upstairs. I have two staircases in my house. One staircase I can walk up with no pain, the other stair case the stairs are only 1/4 inch higher but I have extreme pain when putting pressure on that knee as I step up. My doctor says my knee is fine. I do pilates and also work with a PT trainer to strengthen my knee - I do lots of band exercises, work on step ups, work on strengthening my glutes and am really conscious about trying to make sure I push out on my knee as I step up an put pressure on that knee but nothing seems to help. Any suggestions?
Dr. Smith, It's been 35 days since my knee replacement surgery. I have started regular 15-minute walks outside my house with one crutch. I am able to manage my pain with pain medication and ice packs during the day. However, I am unable to have a few hours of sleep at night, despite taking pain medications, at night. Sleep deprivation is negatively impacting my recovery. Is there anything you can recommend?

I'm back with a trainer for strength and balance work too.
This is a great informational video, thank you so much!

If you excercise everyday rigorously your entire leg will become stronger and pain will be alleviated
Wrong! That's just what I did! Exercise. Prior to surgery, legs were strong, too!
Now, from overtraining, doctor said I have bursitis!😩

May I do these exercises after a patella surgery?
You’ll want to ask your doctor
How long does it normally take for the knee pain to go away after total knee replacement.
Everyone is different. Some people say they have no pain at six months and some people say the pain is there even two years later.
