  • In this video we give you all the information about printing solar cells. Using ink jet printers or reel to reel printers, solar cells can be printed. There are various types of inks available in the market, some of them can be used in the ink jet printers. There are inks for photoactive layers as well as auxilliary layers such as ETL, HTL and transparent contacts.
People have also tried making inks at home.

I think this is the best video I have seen yet on solar energy as it applies to my requirements!
I've been working on world's only 100% ion propelled series of aircrafts with onboard power, they are very lightweight devices. I would like to buy, make, or ideally team up with someone, to procure some solar panels (film) for the crafts so they could potentially fly for much longer periods of time, I have not however, been able to find any for purchase that is lightweight enough. The cells would need to be on a substrate with an extremely light aerial density. Perhaps this method above would work, but I think there might be many details to get the cells light enough and working to specifications. If anyone has any positive suggestions, please let me know.

So I guess you have priced materials based on sizes which can be purchased not on amount needed per cell, if this is correct how much of each is used in the cell and what is the full cost per cell.

Why cant somebody print on sails, the efficiency is not of importance. Even with 11% efficiency when many sails are big as over 50m2.

The cons of printed solar cells is that of there bleak levels of efficiency scoring at just 3%. Compare that with the average mono crystalline solar cells for the same kwh which is usually between 17-22%! Sadly there exterior longevity cycle isn't great neither, only 2-3yrs in that respect, compare that to their mono crystalline counterparts which lasts for upto 30yrs usually!
Okay so admittedly there's still plenty of room for improvement in certain areas but do cover a more broad range of applications. But unmistakably they sure as hell do have alot of potential covering numerous applications such as solar roads, ev charging points and solar street lighting etc! With that being said, Professor Paul Dastoor and his team at the University of Newcastle really do have a 'Tiger by the Tail' here as the level of applications are truly endless even though these may still be very early days. Who knows what level of R&D (research and development) reveals!!

Your information about efficiency of the PVs is outdated. Organic PV, based on nonfulleren have 16%-17% pce. Perovskites already have more 25%. Hovever perovskites have poor stability. But this problem will be solved soon.
