Three things should be added to this video: 1. Background. Confucius proposed his ideas at a time when social order collapse, son killed father, brother killed each other for power. Countries fought each other endlessly. Confucius tried to inspire people respect each other in order to restore the social order and make a harmonious society. 2. The respect for parents should be mutual if parents don't love their children, King exploits his people, Confucius said the respect would not be sincere, people don't have to mourn for 3 years if they really don't have the feeling for their parents.3. During Confucius's lifetime, his idea was never sold to a single king, no country leader followed his idea because whoever respect others first might get killed first. His idea was promoted hundreds of years later when china was united into one country hence this philosophy was used for uniting people’s thoughts. And his philosophy was uplifted to such a high level that almost become the dominant government boosting philosophy in China.
I like the concept of ancestor worship. Not without the Confucian ideology. I like combining into Hindu philosophy, which is about Vedanta, Atman and Brahman. Hierarchy also exists in Adi Shankara's philosophy of Advaita for example, and in other aspects of Hinduism like Varnashram and the Manusmriti, but I don't fit in the traditional system. So I have to create my own. I would technically be a Mleccha or Avarna. Although the fascinating thing about my Vietnamese ancestors' country is that it was historically the Khmer Hindu Empire. Vishnu, Shiva were worshipped in Ancient Vietnam, and also Vietnam used has the Mahabharata, the story or religious of the Kauravas, Krishna and Arjuna. It's very fascinating. But only available to be seen in Vietnamese museums. There is a Tamil Hindu temple in Vietnam, but the Bhakti and Vedantic element has been lost. There is also ISKCON, but I left their organisation due to ideological differences. So it's fascinating comparing the Confucian to the Hindu system. Similarities, but differences. Hinduism incporates Varna, Tantra and Vedanta. Which don't really exist in China.

Chinese do not worship ancestors...they show Filial Piety (to those ancestors alive, and those dead....Chinese world-view/paradigm is like Latin Americans' - Magic realism) believing the dead are not gone but still influence world and personal affairs, so Filial Piety is shown with Ancestral Respect and offerings. Chinese worship Gods/Goddesses and other deities depending on religion, that is separate from Ancestral Respect. I think this video confused the two. Many Chinese are Catholics / Christians as well so they do not worship ancestors. They participate in rituals honouring the dead like death anniversaries etc to show support and family unity. In Europe, people normally maintain ancestral portraits in photos in old houses manses - Chinese traditionally keep tablets with names as names are symbolic and reflection of 5,000 years of Chinese culture civilisation and language, literary development, so its calligraphic form is sometimes maintained in lieu of photos but nowadays many keep photos of deceased (Western style) in living room areas.

@@MadHatter42 How is the Supreme Source of Being a fanciful piece of bigoted mythology, when it's a simple intellectual insight shared by nearly all literate traditions, accepted by almost all eminent rationalists of human history prior to modernity, and therefore has the greatest claim of any metaphysic to universality? And if your ancestors have died, how do you know they still exist in order to be the object of your reverence? If anything, the evidence goes that once they are dead, they don't exist, and there is nothing there to honour or worship. Ancestor worship... it's common in many cultures.
It was influenced by Confucianism, more like philosophy but not religion.

"Worship " means submission. As unto the Creator. Incorrect way to define it.
