I would love to also see the '88 Tracer they tested, as well. That is a very special car to me. In the summer of 1987, my grandmother sold her red 1980 Mercury Zephyr Boxtop 2-door sedan & bought a dark blue 1988 Mercury Tracer 3-door hatchback from James Lincoln/Mercury in Wakefield, MA. I had many rides in this car from 1987-1994 & loved every one of them. Plus, I would spend Sundays at her house either sitting in it or reading the owners manual while everyone else was watching MTV or VH-1. The only options that it had were power steering (optional on her 3-door, standard on the 5-door & wagon), A/C, automatic, & an AM/FM stereo, but to me, that was more than enough. 5 years ago, my grandmother passed away at the age of 90, but I will always think of her every time I look at this modest little car........& one day, I hope to have one exactly like it for myself.
Too bad Mercury screwed over those who still had a Lynx. Once the Tracer was introduced, the Lynx was quickly forgotten and those who owned one were screwed if they wanted to trade or sell, since hardly any one wanted them. Resale value on the Lynx quickly tanked as well.
I had one of these, and loved it to bits. Enough power to keep up with the traffic, smooth ride, a practical interior, and cheap to run. I really miss compact wagons, 2020s crossovers are horrible things.
A brown wagon. It's only missing the diesel and manual transmission to tick all of the right boxes! Seriously though, I wish mainstream wagons would make a comeback in the US, but they won't.
You have great taste in cars! I'd love a brown diesel station wagon with a manual transmission too! Maybe wagons will make a comeback when everyone gets tired of SUVs and crossovers. I'd even be happy to see minivans make a comeback!
@@reallyrandomrides1296 Thanks! I agree 100% with your comments about wagons and minivans. Minivans are making a bit of a comeback- have read where Sienna and Carnival vans are sold out in some places.
Destined to be the mainstay of Dial-a-Maid housekeeping services everywhere! Actually, that was probably more the Escort wagon...the much rarer Tracer wagon probably saw a lot of duty as a second car, a cheap wagon. Didn't know it had more room than the Accord wagon though!
Great car, ok engine, horrible auto transmission. My wife still has her '97 escort. It's the generation after this one, has the updated 2.0 "split port" engine but same Fazda transmission. It's been a decent car except for the transmission which shifts up into overdrive before you hit 35 and stays there unless you floor it and wait a couple seconds

Nice little Station wagon.
Rust thought so as well.
@@zythr9999 A little rust gives it character!

Always nice to remember Mercurys... Thanks for this video.
Very beautifull this Mercury Tracer wagon
I had a 93 esccort wagon, it was great except for the transmission made of glass.
Was it automatic? I had a 1994 Escort LX hatchback with a 5 speed manual, never had any problems.
i had a 95 with the 4 speed automatic, and never give me any problem
I friggin love it the colors the design 👍👍

Man, those were the days when you could get a station wagon for $10,000.
So it's a Ford Escort Wagon o.o!
I like the aesthetic of the Tracer model
I always much preferred the look of the 2nd generation Mercury Tracer over the 2nd gen Ford Escort.
This statement is true in China. Minivans and station wagons are booming in China
88 horsepower man I don't even think that car could go 88 mph 🤣🤣🤣
realmente é muito bonito carro desse é sensacional
Esse carro é muito maravilhoso 👏👏

Lol, well it probably is better then the Ford FLC ATX which was the previous auto tranny for the Escort
A great car if you are a small package courier
