      I think Martin like Posada was originally an infielder but his best chance to make the majors was to be a catcher because everybody wants a catcher with some pop but not a 2B with some pop and regular fielding.
      That's why the majors is full of bad catchers who can't field nor throw properly (Piazza was a prime example, Posada, Leyritz and Gary Sánchez too).

    • @MikhelBL
      @MikhelBL 11 месяцев назад +1

      Not really, those two plays were not regular grounders and fielded them as if they were, the first one because Hardy was running and the SS had to speed up the throw (the grounder was slow and JJ had above avg speed though not the fastest one), notice how strong his throw was even after 17 seasons in the majors. Nowadays most shortstops can't get the throw to first with that smooth motion that loos almost effortless.

      @@justinyo1796 DRS is literally defensive runs saved. Its a calculation where 100 is the average and its a measure of how many runs a defender has saved. Using metrics like range, errors, difficulty, and a handful of other things. Jeter's DRS is -152 the worst by far of any major leaguer ever.
      Since you want to use errors which is the worst metric in all of baseball considering a human decides whether or not an error is an error, Ozzie Smiths Fielding percentage was a .978 while Jeters was .971 even though ozzie had 27 more errors than Jeter but both played the 19 seasons. Jeter is hands down the least consistent, worst defender at the shortstop position in MLB history, Ozzie is one of the best defensemen in the history of the MLB. Both of these statements are well know facts. Now stfu about errors especially since YOU cant explain DRS.

The fact they did this is likely due to depth chart injuries or pinch hitting and keeping a player in the game. Practically any mlb player can field and the fact theyre a catcher means they are a specialist in one thing but not necessarily below at another thing
