- For years, shocking rumors have circulated that Arnold the Pig was cooked and eaten by the cast of Green Acres. Did that really happen? TV Time Machine host Jim Benson provides the surprising answer to the question: Was Arnold the Pig Eaten?
For six seasons, Green Acres was one of several hit 'rural' situation comedies that aired on the CBS television network in the 1960s, along with The Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction, The Andy Griffith Show, and Mayberry RFD.
Starring Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor, the series told the story of a wealthy New York-based couple who moved to a small country town called Hooterville. Unlike many of the other 'country' oriented sitcoms, Green Acres featured a collection of zany, somewhat bizarre small-town characters.
Green Acres' comedy surrealism made the series an instant hit with audiences and helped Green Acres secure a place as one of the classic all-time situation comedies in television history.
I still like this show!
Me too!

Six pigs per season for six years and all lived happily ever after? I recall reading that one "Arnold" suddenly died, what became of the other thirty-five is anybody's guess.
One of the "Arnolds" was buried with his trainer, Frank Inn. As for the original Arnold, he's probably still in the freezer!
Kc4 it sounds like mass murder on a grand scale.
How about Mr. Ed ? We need to know.
No doubt. Chester Whites make tasty pork.
Smithfield.
Propaganda to take away from the truth that Arnold was eaten. Some of us are not fooled easily.
Perhaps. But it still makes a good story. :-)
Mmmmmm bacon
There is a scene in in the 1972 movie "1776" where John Adams and Benjamin Franklin walk through a Philadelphia marketplace to visit Thomas Jefferson. They walk past a large pink pig and there is a story that "Arnold" is that pig. The timing is right for it to be one of the "Arnolds", but he doesn't do very much, so there's no reason it HAS to be!
-still COULD be!
I remember that scene, and that's very possible, he certainly looked the part! :-)

I did a little research. If you look in the IMDB pages for "1776" in "Trivia" it says maybe midway down:
"The pig who appears in the street scene where Adams and Franklin go to visit Jefferson in his quarters was, according to director Peter H. Hunt, the same pig who played "Arnold Ziffel" in Green Acres (1965). In the commentary, Hunt mentions that the pig's contract specified that he would be the last actor to come out of his air-conditioned trailer when filming would begin."
-so it is more than Urban Legend!
Ralph was eaten.
Of course he was!
Arnold the bacon.
Where does the best ham come from?
