Because you've gotta start somewhere
"Designed with radar IN MIND".
Theorie Why it was cancelled: The radar was cancelled on the plane, but the designers wanted and tested it with one, but due to the secrecy of the Radar, there was fear that the Germans could shot it down and get the radar out of it.

WW2 aircraft having radar never existed..
Everyone knows they ate carrots..
Nah, mate. They just put carrots under the wing of the plane or in the nose
Nice little bit of RAF fuckery to keep the secret.
Their is only one relevant question here, do they give "ze germans" the same feature?
Just as a reminder, the antennas that you see on the BF110 for example, are radar antennas.
@@mandernachluca3774 No ingame 110 has a radar. They were mounted on the G versions, like TV aerials on the nose.

Yes and they should add them to the BF110 G in warthunder or at least make it functional for the Do217 variants.
They should model radar for the PBJ series planes in America- have the same wing mounted system as the hellcats

As a pilot for 20 years, and having flown a P-51D, wish I could have done aerobatics. Can't stress the a on a 70 year old plane.
That’s awesome, I wish I could see a P-51D put through its paces and see what it could do
I can’t imagine all the 18-21 year olds flying and fighting for their lives in them.
PhlREE older radars have an especially hard time picking out from ground clutter (clouds too).
Ideally they should be silhouetted against the sky for a lock; however, it should still be capable of locking with ground clutter, it will be way harder. (I think the 5n radar is just buggy as well)
(Even against the sky isn't a guarantee either)
5:09 "how?"
Answer: because American nation players.
I would agree that its consistently the USA players and not how Germany has better planes. 10000001% agree.
Just the same thing happens when you have USA players fly Germany and vise versa so the argument sorta falls off there.

Love the Lowe BR air gameplay! You should try the BF110G with extra cannons because that thing is brutal! Or give it a 1000Kg bomb, kill a base then go fight.....
F6F-5N was a night fighter, sluggishness wasn't much issue when it was able to sneak behind other night-flying plane and kill it out from the dark.

These memes you put in here are hilarious 😂😂😂 keep up the good work been watching for a while✈️✈️
That radar is not tracking in some cases because it is not a 'look down radar'. So when you have ground in front of your target and you trying to track 10km, it can't see. But when you switch it to 1km and you higher than that, target appears. Look down radars were invented only in 70s.
Take the T-26E. It's like the Maus at 1.3 with it's 15-40mm add-on armor
Il Carnefice Dosen’t look that good to me... Is the armor that usefull? The t-26 is already slow and his gun is bad.

I am surprised to see that the rank 4 f6f had a radar. The only single engine plane I know that has a radar is the A2d skyshark.
Oh Hell Yeah! Reminds me of the olden days of modded IL-2 '46. Hunting British bombers in ME110s and HE219s with nothing to guide you but two or three squiggly lines on the oscilloscope (or the GCI on the F/T from the Freya station) until you closed in to 50 or so meters and could spot the little flames from the exhausts... good times

Attempt #12
When the g55s killed him, that was the saddest “oh” I have ever heard.
I'm presently grinding out this plane on my US aircraft lineup, along with the P-47N and F4U-1C. It's actually the best-turning fighter of those three.
The P-61C-1 also has a radar and is a WW2 plane. Check it out sometime.
The F6F-5N's radar scans in a spiral pattern hence why it seems to go so fast. Planes positions are updated much slower than that.
Maybe the radar locks at your guns firing distance? You did mention it would “lock” the plane once a predetermined distance was reached.
I believe that due to how radar works it doesn't pick up nearly as far if youre heading in the same direction or opposite direction of an aircraft. This is because the target that the radar pings (or in the case of this device infrared strobes) don't bounce off of nearly as big of a target as if the target was heading perpendicular or in a turn. Think of the shape of an aircraft as youre looking directly at it, it is designed to cut through the air and therefore wouldn't have many surfaces to reflect a radio wave straight back to the device.
You can adjust the radar scan range, that f6f ingame can see targets up to 120km
5:07 allied teams in a nutshell
Radar be like: i am fast as fak boii!
The AN/APS-6 radar did not have a lock-on feature. The radar produced radar waves in a spiral pattern with settings of 500, 1,000, & 2,000 cycles per second, yes it was a very fast cycle rate. The pilot would find and track a plane then get within 1/2 mile and switch to the supposed “lock-on” mode that shortened the width of the search cone. Then the plane’s radar signature would increase and the pilot would shoot when ready.
Loved the vid man that you got my sub

You gotta stop make me laugh so hard over the smallest thing Phly 😂
5:58 "I'm a one oh nine and I like to do THIS." ~headons~ :D
Such a beautiful aircraft indeed.
I used this plane the other day in tank AB. I was shocked tbh
I think being the radio operator gunner in this plane may be worse than being the gunner in the b17 bubble
A lot of radars have issues with ground clutter, what's probably happening is since the radar is pointing out the ground it can't tell what is in front of it so you can't lock
If you try to go from under the aircraft you will probably have a lot easier time locking onto it
5:07 ahhh the american pilot experience, lovely isn't it
Neat addition to the F6F.
The big reason early radar had such a huge problem with clutter was because of a lack of a good filter system. The earliest ones that sort of worked used analog delay lines, but they were huge and heavy and expensive- the english chain home system had minimum altitude restrictions and required a human filter system to filter the chatter.
Keep it up phly👍
Phly: Early radar really struggled to detect targets below them - they wheren't advanced enough to know the difference between the huge return from the ground vs the small return from a plane
This is what is talked about in early cold war fighters when they talk about planes with the 1st "Look Down, Shoot down" radars
I suspect that this is why you have far better luck bomber hunting - it runs counter to normal ACM maneuvers but with radar you want to be lower than your targets
Dude I swear I’ll be in a queue in WT trying to get in a game and I’ll be looking at insta or something and the queue takes forever, then I’m like ok I’ll just pull up some PhlyDaily bc this will take a while I immediately get into a game. There is a power within you that should not be fucked around with. All hail PhlyDaily
The Lincoln also had a lock on Radar for the gunners as well as normal radar.
Have you not done the ME264 god machine yet for a video?!
Something i noticed about the radar on this plane in arcade. The Radar only detects people once their marker is spotted by a player. In other words the radar ONLY works when you'd have a marker highlighting them anyway. Frankly the lead indicator MIGHT be useful in RB (with a range of only 1 km that's pretty situational), but otherwise I wish there was a way to just take it off my screen. Its completely useless if it will only show me targets that are already marked.
I love your old memes pollydholpy !
we did have rudimentary Gun computers in wwii, example the P-51D's sight moves to the opposite of which way the nose is facing in a turn, to help pilots with the lead angle.
WHY DO PEOPLE USE i`s for numbers!
?????😠
not be mean
A2d-1 video when you get a chance? Just picked it up a while ago and I'm terrible in planes but I love this one.
Random guess about the lock on. Maybe they simulate ground clutter, so it locks better if the target has sky behind it rather than ground.
I always assumed the wing bulb was for comms. Didn't think it was possible to have radar that small at that time in history.
i agree with with last words phly.
Love this bird!

The me264 can be really op, because if your plane is looking to -10 degres, than you will dive at -3 or -4 degres and sustain 580 kph. Of course there is half a minute, when you are accelerating, but you really can rush and schnellbomb the shit out of the bases
Hey Captain PlhyDaily! Just here to apreciate your videos and report that your link for the thrustmaster store isn't working (maybe it's just on my pc idk). Keep up the amazing work!
That radar is neat, wonder if it works on the PBJs
I think size of the aircraft you're trying to lock may have an effect on how well it locks

My all time favorite airplane nicknamed the Hellcat ❤️
Just found out about this.
TFW gaijin gave me a talisman for it in a trophy.
phly the blackwidow has a radar too and its working :3
Generally radar will work best when there’s nothing in the way. It’ll get the clearest picture if your below the target, that way it’ll only have to sort through clear sky
That Hellcat with that radar is part of Project Affirm.
Take this out in sim battles, Phly. Or the ME410 B6/R3 or any of the other night fighters with radar

The radar on this plane i think is the same stuff that inspired the targeting systems in star fighters in starwars
Literally just closed my eye at 1AM and this notification came in. Guess I’ll stay up late.
Go to sleep
There was a F6F UAV very early on that went out of control.
I think this radar was meant for finding and intercepting bombers, mainly at night, not for dogfights :D
it scans ships too lmao
Not sure if anybody already said this, but...
Early radars can’t search or track lower targets except at relatively high altitude. You need to be looking up to not lose the target in “ground clutter”.
I guess I’ll have to take mine out and see. 😁
The first really effective filter system only came into play with delay line memory being fitted to a radar.
the P61-C also has Radar Phly.
i think it has had it since radar got introduced or atleast a while ago
It's not targeting radar tho it's just normal radar
@@tnt_6308 Oh alright
Nice memes Phloppy! :DDD
Oh they need to implement the allied night fighters that flew by radar. Some of the seemingly mediocre planes like the black widow were radar guided night fighters that could decimate enemies at night
Ah man, you know what this means!!
*Night Fighers!!* Or as the name changed, *all weather fighters/attack fighters.*
Which means more awesome black camos and night time camo in general.
Maybe some dull light and dark greys too with the all weather part, to blend in with fog and clouds.
List of planes that I know of that had the radar systems for these roles, as it wasn't just fighters that had them.
