There is a difference between asking family or friends to pray For you, to praying To dead people! Jesus is both Mediator, Intercessor & Advocate. If Jesus is sufficient for all those roles then why do we need to pray to Mary or one of the saints, who by the way, are departed? Yes, they are alive in heaven, however, there is no scriptural basis for praying to them, rather the opposite is true! Intercession is biblical for you and I who are living, to pray FOR one another, but not to ask departed saints to pray for us. The saints in heaven may be privy to the prayers of the saints on earth. However, nowhere in scripture are we instructed to pray To Them or ask them to pray for us! The Bible actually instructs us to call on God not the Dead! Isaiah 8:19-20 Someone may say to you, “Let’s ask the mediums and those who consult the spirits of the Dead. With their whisperings and mutterings, they will tell us what to do.” But shouldn’t people ask God for guidance? 20 Should the living seek guidance from the Dead? Look to God’s instructions and teachings! People who contradict his word are completely in the dark. Verse 20 is the point, if the Bible calls them dead, then they are dead from our perspective. Then they are no longer on earth & we are not to call on them. By praying To them, we are taking the attributes of God and placing them on mere humans! Only God is Omnipresent(everywhere at once), Omniscient(knowing everything at all times), Omnipotent(all powerful) & Omnibenevolent(supremely Holy & Good). If the word of God tells us to come to Him directly, then why do we need to pray to anyone else??? Take a look at the following scriptural references: Romans 8:34 [34]Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes INTERCESSION for us. Hebrews 4:14-16 [14]Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. [15]For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. [16]Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 7:23-27 [23]Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. [24]But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. [25]Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make Intercession for them. [26]For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; [27]who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. 1 Timothy 2:5 [5]For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, Acts 4:12 [12]Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Jeremiah 29:12-13 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. Philippians 4:6-7 [6]Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; [7]and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Romans 8:26-27 [26]Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. [27]Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Matthew 6:6,9-15 [6]But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. [9]In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. [10]Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. [11]Give us this day our daily bread. [12]And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. [13]And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. [14]“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. [15]But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. 1 John 5:14-15 [14]Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. [15]And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. 2 Chronicles 7:14 [14]if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Psalms 17:6 [6]I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; Incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech. Psalms 102:17 [17]He shall regard the prayer of the destitute, And shall not despise their prayer. Psalms 145:18-19 [18]The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. [19]He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them. Proverbs 15:29 [29]The Lord is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous. Romans 10:13 [13]For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:9-13 [9]If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10]For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. [11]As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” [12]For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile-the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, [13]for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
He answered, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” Then he pointed to his followers and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. My true brother and sister and mother are those who do what my Father in heaven wants.”

@@ElizJaq Mediator: a person who attempts to make people involved in a conflict come to an agreement; a go-between Intercessor: a person who intervenes on behalf of another, especially by prayer. Basically same thing. There's one between us and God and it is God Himself, Jesus. Can't get any clearer than that. Just as there is one mediator/intercessor, there is one God. To say there is more than one intercessor between us and God not only violates that there is only one God (because the two statements are paired together in this verse) but also violates the point of the veil being torn.
This is the most palatable explanation of veneration of Mary / Saints I have heard (as a Presbyterian). While I still have difficulties with the extent of veneration that Catholics practice, it does become more understandable. This does, in my mind, tear down to some extent, the straw man interpretation of Catholicism that Protestants like myself have built up in their minds.
I just finished a book called surprised by truth. Discusses this and other such issues and was pretty eye opening as to the actually teachings of Catholicism.
@DogOneIsOpen. These are standard Catholic talking points, and they do not hold water. Go back to the prayer James White read, and you’ll see that Trent in no way explained how this was kosher. We are being told that it is ok to be afraid of a dangerous Jesus and approach a gentle Mary, instead. And because of this quaking fear (not respect but terror) it is ok to give all our gathered honor and glory to Mary, who will then pass this bounty on to her Son. This is a totally unchristian way of looking at things. It should be rejected. Catholics grease the skids by discussing prayer to the saints as if it were the same as getting a friend to pray for you. But it is a “bait and switch.” You don’t pray to your friends for strength and courage and blessing and redemption. But Catholics would have you pray to Mary for these things! Very, very few of their prayers follow the design of the Ave Maria: “Hail, Mary, full of Grace! PRAY FOR US sinners, now, and in the hour of our death!”
@@hanssvineklev648 I picture James white in heaven walking around barking orders to people about to to correctly follow scripture. Whereas Catholics are enraptured and sharing in the beatific vision.

Every single one either was quoting scripture and letting that stand on its own or speaking positively of the great family of believers. Who is attacking you? One reply to your post says that we are not one brotherhood with Rome. The Roman Catholic Church effectively established a kingdom (literally with the Pope as the king of the Vatican) of this world. That seems like a legitimate concern NOT an attack. If I speak to my Protestant brothers and say that they should study all of church history, that inevitably means studying the Catholic Church just not exclusively the Catholic Church.

With all due respect, there’s a distinct difference between asking someone to pray for/with you vs praying TO them to intercede. If I pray to Ruslan or Trent to intercede on my behalf, that would be a problem.
Catholics such as Trent use the word "pray" as synonym to "request", the old english. Now try to subsitute the word in your sentence given this information and you pretty much understand where Trent is coming from.
You're making a mockery of the cross and the price that Jesus paid for to tear the veil in two and give us direct access to himself if you're going to pray to Mary... the Word explicitly says to pray to the Father and ask in Jesus name..
I came from the streets to the Savior. Never persuaded by any particular denomination. Since I tend to put my heart all in for what I believe it has been my passionate mission to study scripture and know God. Sola Scriptura is unbiblical and we see what comes out of your philosophy. Thousands of different interpretations disagreeing on the fundamentals of our faith.
4:44 this is my issue. When believers pray for one another, we're not praying TO them. We're praying FOR them, TO Christ, THROUGH the power of the Holy Spirit. I'm sorry but Mary is not an advocate. I can say of course she was blessed among women for the Father was pleased to bless her with our Lord and His Son, Jesus, but my prayers do not go TO her or anyone else except the One who is omniscient. Mary is not all knowing, all powerful. She cannot hear every prayer or answer those prayers. I don't bring up the fact that she's dead, because I don't think that is the problem here. We are all alive in Christ and our God is not the God of the dead but of the living.
She advocated and water was turned into wine. That is why she is our advocate. Praying is a dialogue. U dialogue with your friends to dialogue with God on your behalf. Us Catholics dialogue with Mary to dialogue with God on our behalf.
Half my family was catholic and the other half protestant. I was allowed to choose myself. From a very young age, I found it uncomfortable and wrong to pray to Mary and the saints. I have only ever prayed to Jesus/God.
Yet Jesus while on earth sent out disciples in his stead. He was also not the father, but was the emanation of the father on earth. Jesus himself said don't call me good, for only God is good. So, I hope you understand the paradox.
We have a great High Priest and intercessor before the Father the man Christ Jesus. We don't need Mary or anyone else. Saying we go around Him because we need someone who is in better graces with Him is just silly.

@jeremy2720 well I'm not a protestant because I was never part of the RCC. I'm a Baptist. I know the RCC has convinced their followers that they are the original and everyone else has left them, but that's not the case. The Muslims believe Mary is part of the trinity but they are wrong. And if you take Scripture seriously you would see that Bathsheba tried to manipulate her son King Solomon in a wicked way and tried to usurp the kings authority. The RCC tries to do the same with Mary. There is nothing in the Bible that suggests that we should go to anyone but our Great High Priest Jesus in prayer. Spinning prayer to Mary as simply intercession doesn't take away from the fact that she in not to be prayed to just because she bore Jesus. She was a sinner like the rest of us and needed Jesus as a savior as well. And the man in the videos example of Job's friend is the silliest of stretches to justify intercession in prayer that I have ever heard. Yes, the prayer of an unbeliever would be less powerful than a blameless man like Job. I suggest you read Scripture not from your tradition but by itself. The RCC blinders lead to ignoring many conflicts between God's Word and RCC Dogma.
@jeremy2720 Some call themselves protestants because of tradition, but that's not true for most. Some churches did come from the RCC but that doesn't mean that any Christian not in the RCC is a "protestant"
Everyone should watch the video for them selves and decide. Anyone can follow and understand Trents argument and logic. It's easy to say he missed the boat without laying our specifics how.
But how do they know that person who died is in heaven for sure? So isn't safer to just pray to Jesus? Or ask for prayer from your living brother and sisters in Christ? Honestly asking, no judgment 😊
This is exactly what I ask the people who say I been saved! How do they know if God hasent judge them yet, it sounds like they put themselves over God's judgment not judging either 🤔
To answer your question: We know that Marys in heaven, it would be a lie to say that mary the mother of God (Jesus christ is God) is not in heaven, we also know that many saints of old are in heaven. As for canonization that's not an easy process it takes yrs before a saint is cannozied, and this requires a lot of signs. Also like the comment above says we don't know who is saved on earth and who's not, we could be asking for prayer from someone who isn't including ourselves, yet we still ask humans on earth to pray for us.
Matthew 12:46-50 anyone one who has placed their faith in Christ is the same as Mary or any other believer from the mouth of the Lord Himself. The real question is why would you waste time and honor venerating or praying to anyone other than the “One mediator between God and man” Jesus Christ 1 Timothy 2:5
How do you get from, “it’d be cool to have someone pray for me” to, “I’m goin to carve a statue of this person and kiss their feet in order that they might listen to my requests to ask God for forgiveness.” Quite a big leap in my opinion.

So let me get this straight (I am a former Catholic) my eyes have been open to the relationship of Jesus who made it possible to approach God my creator in the throne room and stand clean and righteous in His eyes because Jesus died on the cross a horrible death. But I should still have Mary and the saints pray for me also??? We have other s pray for us because it says in the Bible to pray for each other. Show me where it says go ask the dead saints to pray for you. The veil was tore, the veil was torn. When people say "I was a Catholic" or "ex-Catholic", we can assume they are going to make many fallacious claims about the faith they don't understand at all - that is why they leave the church. Anyway, just because you did not understand your faith as a Catholic does not prove that the RCC is false. It is in fact the only one true apostolic church. Catholics do no believe the false doctrine of sola scriptura. Scripture, sacred tradition, and the magisterium are the inseparable pillars of the RCC. The bible is not the only source of instructions for Christians, but one of the sources of instruction. In fact Jesus did not even ask anyone to write His words or the bible, as we know it, He left us with the authority of the apostles, i.e., the first bishops, that has been passed down by St. Peter. Jesus left behind the Church - RCC to be precise, not a bible.
The problem is first you believe that physical death is the end, its not. Jesus says we are not dead. John 8:51, 11:25-26. Matthew 22:32. Once you realize they're not dead and they are more alive then you in Christ it starts to make more sense.

There used to be a veil which divided the holy temple of God from the rest of the common people, only a priest was allowed to go into the final room of the temple to offer prayers up to God. Catholicism is one big excuse. - Catholics view mary as the only priest who can offer up our prayers to God but what then happens to the death and resurrection of Christ? It becomes unnecessary. @@PaxChristi7 So explain how does your friend praying for you amplify your prayer? Does your friend have some sort of special ability? No of course not. Mary was a human being, never divine. I have yet to see any clear Scriptural teaching noting the benefits of praying together with the Spiritually elite as to improve the effectiveness and noticability of said prayers. A lie long-withstanding does not a truth make.
You can go boldly to throne of grace if you are in Christ. You can ask the Father directly. You don't need to ask others to pray as if God doesn't hear you. The problem comes when you cut God out of the communication. When the attention shifts from Jesus and you start talking with other spirits, you are no longer in communication with God. If you have parents, you don't send someone else to ask your parents for you. You go, because you have a relationship with them. If your relationship isn't good, that's another story. That's why you will find unsaved people asking you to pray for them. As a son or daughter, you can go directly to the throne room and talk to your Father and he hears you.
Seems the biblical teaching on that is more of a both/and. While its good to go directly to God, its also good to ask for the prayers(intercession) of fellow Christians: Confess your faults one to another, and _pray one for another_ , that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much - James 5:16 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your _prayers to God _*_for_*_ me_ - Romans 15:30 Finally, brethren, _pray for us_ , that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you - 2 Thessalonians 3:1
Thank you!!!! It seemed to me that this catholic doctrine is founded on the lack of faith in the father. The bible says to come boldly before the throne of grace. Knock, and the dor will be opened, seek, and we shall find. I would rather work on my direct relationship with God than rely on someone else to pray for me eventually
Hey, Ruslan. How did you get over your porn addiction? There is a Pentecostal convert to Catholicism named Tyler. He was on Catholic Re. Con. He talked about how he went straight to Jesus, but it wasn't doing anything with his lust. Now, that's not to say Jesus can't do anything for him, but when he asked Mary to pray for him, his porn addiction left him. If saints in heaven can hear our petitions, then, because they are holy, their prayers are more effective. It is said that the prayer of the righteous is great.
6:07 Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV - Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. I'll just leave this here...
Opinions I got from here are : 1. If people who have faith died, are they directly go to heaven or not? Because what I know, at the second coming Jesus will judge all people alive and dead. After that judgment people will be separated and some will go to heaven and some will go to hell. 2. The doctrine of a person can be holier than other, is quite man-centric. We know that nobody is holy, only God is holy. We know that no one should boast about ourselves. We are holy only because Jesus are holy. And we know that there is a verse that we only have One High Priest now. That is Jesus Christ. Who can mediate us between us and Father. 3. And if practice of praying to the dead believer is true, are there any evidence in the old testament that people also pray to the person who already dead? We know that Abraham, Isaac, Elijah, Enoch, Jeremiah and others are believers too. Why people don't pray to them and ask them pray to God after they died? correct me if I'm wrong. 🙏😊
@Arvin About your first question, believers directly go to (temperory) heaven/paradise to be with the Lord. The non-believer upon death will go to temporary hell (Hades/Sheol; I am not very sure about the terminology 😅). The judgment of all people during Jesus's second coming will send people either to permanent heaven (new earth and heaven aka new Jerusalem mentioned in Rev 21) or permanent hell (the lake of fire mentioned in Rev 20:11-15). Even though everyone will be judged based on the gospel, the judgement will play out differently for a believer and a non-believer. The non-believer will be judged for his works and faith, if or not he/she believed in Jesus, regardless of whether he/she heard the gospel or not, and will be condemned to hell (as per Rom 2:12-16). Whereas for a believer, only our works are judged since we have already been justified because of our faith (as per John 3:18, Rom 8:1;33-35). Good works (gold, silver and precious stones) are rewarded and useless works (wood, hay and straw) are not rewarded (as per 1 Cor 3:10-15). Well, this is how I understand the matter. Hope I could bring some clarity to you.
At the Mount Tabor in the new testament Jesus was talking to Moses and Elijah who are already dead long ago. That means Jesus is committing a sin as he is praying to dead people. It does not make sense. We are all one in Christ whether alive or dead. We pray for each other, we ask others to pray for us
@@Robertcp-ip Please don’t twist scripture; it only hurts your position. During the mount of transfiguration, Jesus didn’t pray to Moses or Elijah. They were present there and Jesus spoke to them to their faces. He was speaking more directly to them than I am doing to you right now, and I don’t think anyone is going to accuse me of praying to you right now.
This gentleman is trying to justify how its ok to pray to Mary or even your relatives: The Bible has a negative view of necromancy or attempts to communicate with the dead. In fact, all contact with the spirit world is expressly forbidden irrespective of the nature of the spirits concerned (Lv 19:26-31; Dt 18:10-11; Job 7:7-10; Is 8:18-20; Lk 16:19-31).
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. James 5:16- there was no heaven in old testament that's why everybody is considered dead before Christ arrived, do you think Mary and the apostles didn't reach heaven, and the god of the living doesn't have his disciples by his side? this is why sola scriptura does not work, you take any verse without context and historical accuracy even within itself.
Revelation 8:3-4 - "Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all God’s people, on the golden altar in front of the throne. The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God from the angel’s hand." Luke 15:10 - "In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."
@@mariuzmadden8552 I get where you're coming from, but when you say a prayer, it can only be through Jesus to God. We have one channel of access, and one mediator. Lets not missinterpret and justify consulting with the dead by saying those who "die" in Christ are alive, as much as that is true, because the death in Det 18:11 is in the flesh. In that regard, any attempt to communicate with a dead believer equates to consulting a spirit of a dead beliver, and that's taboo.

There's only one meteor between God and man and that's Jesus Christ! 1st Timothy 2:5. That's what the word says not what a letter says or a prayer that somebody wrote years ago.. I'm not trying to read the word interpret it based on how I feel about it, but what God is trying to say to me. I used to be a catholic, no disrespect, until I started reading the bible.
What about John 14:6. It does not say through the prayers of others in heaven can I reach the father's perverbial "ear". It says: "I (Jesus, not Mary or anyone else in heaven) am the truth the WAY and the life." He continues in saying "NO ONE comes to the Father except through ME (Jesus)".
Also, “let the children come to me” Christ did not say, let the children come to my mother and I’ll accept whoever she accepts In fact with this verse, the saints are gatekeeping, which Christ condemned!
Facts! Jesus also said he would leave a comforter, the Holy Spirit (John 14:16) .... like it says in the next verse (17) The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. @Uncertainty Eclipses Why would we ever be praying for dead family members and ask them to pray for us?!? Where in the scriptures did you get this idea from?
Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus, Holy Mary mother of God pray for us sinner’s, now and at the hour of our death Amen. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy.
If Mary was so important why does he say this in Mark 3 33¶But He answered them, saying, “Who is My mother, or My brothers?” 34And He looked around in a circle at those who sat about Him, and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers! 35“For whoever does the will of God is My brother and My sister and mother.” And why say Hail Mary... you should only hail Jesus... He is the King of Kings...
Mary is married to Joseph and not only that she also had Jesus as her only child but she had other children and they were Simon and Jude and James and Jose and two unnamed daughters too. Mary too needed a savior and she grew old and died and was buried under ground and later on went into heaven. But Roman Catholicism teaches the opposite of that but however They believe that Mary was with Joseph and they venerate Mary and they worship Mary like she’s a God or a Goddess and have her as a Co Mediator known as a Mediatrix and they believe that she is sinless and the Mother of God and The Queen of Heaven and The Spouse of God. They also believe that Mary was her only child and believe that she remained a virgin and had ascended into heaven like her son Jesus. This right here is a huge difference there.
It is so profoundly sad to watch a Catholic downplay and sidestep and "reinterpret" things and for Ruslan to seemingly be buying it. Like no, man. She's another redeemer for them. They literally took title from Ashteroth and applied them to Mary. Jesus wasn't naming Mary mother of us all, she was telling John, whom He loved, to care for her like his own mother.
Pardon me, but what you dub as "sidestepping" and "downplaying" simply appears to be an aversion to a more nuanced theology than what most are accustomed to.

Hopefully God's discerment and grace will continue to touch many peoples lives, so that they will be free from the lies and deception of the enemy.
The problem I have with most things Roman Catholic is taking things to an extreme. No wonder reformers walked away when they finally acquired a copy of the Bible for themselves...Mary wasn't NEAR as highly regarded by the earliest Christians as a modern Catholic.
@@user-wg5dm6oc3t Show me this in the first century. All you have from the earliest times is the scriptures. They in no way justify the type of idolatrous prayers, bodily assumption, and any idea of her as co-redemptrix....Paintings of her and others are no basis of taking Mariology to such an extreme. The Apostles wouldn't have a clue what you are talking about. I was once considering getting a tattoo of Mary (in a mural) on my arm. That doesn't mean I believe she is coredemtrix, or bodily assumed, or distributer of grace. Paintings....are not the scriptures. We don't look to paintings for our doctrine. I've ben to the catacombs btw. There is a lot of art work all over the walls, and it is cool. There's even the names of Peter and Paul if I remember correctly, but that's not the final authority. Shout out to Trent Horn for more deeply confirming my Protestantism. Ladies and gents, there is one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus. The veil was torn in two, go to Him. If you seek to be more righteous, that your prayers would be answered, then go to Him who shares His robes for cleansing This is too simple. Lastly, if you see him as a harsh judge who dwells in unapproachable light, don't go to His creation (His incarnational mother), go to Him who will never turn away the broken and contrite.
I met a brother in a Dunkin’ Donuts once, who noticed me reading my Bible. He is Catholic and we ended up talking for over 2 hours and remain friends years later. One of the guys he pointed me to was Trent. I am still firm in my evangelical beliefs but a couple of Catholics I respect are Trent, Jonathon Roumie and Jim Caveziel. Ruslan, curious after your interview, where you stand on these things? Where Catholics stand on gifts of the Holy Spirit: They are active and present in all Christian communities. We just have a bigger emphasis on the higher ranked gifts of teaching etc. We understand lists in the new testament to be hierarchical. So when Paul lists the gifts of the Holy spirit, the gift of tongues for example is very low down. In Catholicism miracles are commonplace. I mean at the mass we believe one of the biggest miracles in this world occurs every time. (The bread and wine being substantially transformed into the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus).

This is problematic theology. The Bible says there is one mediator between God and man and that is Jesus. Not St.Michael, Mary, etc. Exodus 20:4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below." What does this mean? That it's possible to commit idolatry even with the things of Heaven (angels). Multiple times in the Bible when someone tried to bow and show reverence to an angel the angel themselves will tell them not to do that! God is a very jealous God and even the angels knew not to take any of His glory. Also this idea that Mary will look like Jesus is so weird to me.Matthew 12:47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.” 48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” Once Jesus resurrected He put His mother shoulder to shoulder with everyone who does the will of God. She is now part of the body of Christ, not above it, they're not on even grounds. Nowhere in scriptures did Jesus say to pray to dead people, angels, or anyone else. Only the Father and the Father only wanted people to come to Him through Jesus!
They believe that by Jesus saying woman this is your son and from that point on the deciple Jesus loved took her into his home. I hope you are consistent with this thinking throughout the entire Holy Bible. From when Jesus taught only the disciples how to pray and not everyone to imparting the forgiveness of sins to only the disciples. The “faith” delivered once for all the the saints is the Gospel of salvation by faith in Christ apart from any works. You have the guarantee of inspired Scripture that if you rely upon the sacramental system for your salvation, as Rome demands, you will not be born again by the Spirit through faith, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven
@@joelarmies I'm not a catholic but you said faith in christ apart from works.......this makes me question do you understand what it means to have faith in Christ? Faith produces works doesn't it not?

@@matthewbroderick6287 uhuh works come from a new nature that we receive by faith in Christ apart from works. Or was Paul in dispute with James? Perhaps you will hear Pope Clement 1 in his epistle to the Corinthians: And we, too, being called by His will in Christ Jesus, are not justified by ourselves, nor by our own wisdom, or understanding, or godliness, or works which we have wrought in holiness of heart; but by that faith through which, from the beginning, Almighty God has justified all men; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. What shall we do, then, brethren? Shall we become slothful in well-doing, and cease from the practice of love? God forbid that any such course should be followed by us! But rather let us hasten with all energy and readiness of mind to perform every good work.
Agreed! Good works are nothing more than the effect of the free gift of salvation through Christ alone! They are evidence of our changes heart. The works are not a requirement for salvation as seen by the thief on the cross!
If so, why you need faith teachers? Why you evangelize and why you use Biblie written down by men, preserved by man, printed by man and delivered by man. Why not wait until Jesus himself will send you one from heaven? You misunderstood this brother. Jesus is the only intercessor between man kind and God, because he is the only that is a man and God in one person. He is not only intercessor between you and God. You need whole Church of people of intercessors.
@grzegorzx939 I might be misunderstanding your post but if I'm sitting in a room with my mom and someone needs me to help them. They need to ask my mom? Why not ask me. I'm right there. I see this as a way of limiting GOD to ask others to for help. HE is all powerful right? It states in scripture HE knows what we need before even asked. Hope this helps. GOD bless
@@dubiejohn2023 I might be misunderstanding your post. I regularly ask others to pray for me. Why not ask my divine Mother to pray for me? I don't think Jesus has an inferiority complex or HE gets jealous if I ask others to pray for me and I pray for them. This is the way Trent Horn is using the word "intercede". A biblical example in Mary interceding on our behalf as our Mother, The Mother of the Church; - She asked Jesus to turn water into wine and she interceded to tell the disciples to be obedient to Jesus and fill the Jars with water for it to change substance into wine. This is also Eucharistic Typology. May God Bless you.
Mary isn't just another person....a woman just like me. She is the Mother of Jesus Christ . She was specifically chosen . She is so special . I am so thankful to Mary . So thankful to God.
Ok, that's where you take it too far. Mary is the mother of God, but she's still a sinner needing salvation. By that lense, she is indeed just another person needing the love and forgiveness of Christ
@NepemotkaWired why do you worship her? Worshipping her like going to your mother to save you from sin. You don't need a third person. You have direct access to God you can say she was a great person but she isn't God. So stop treating her like God.

I can't wrap my brain around this. If it was ok, I think Jesus would have included it in the Lord's prayer, maybe as a side comment that, oh by the way if you ask my mother too she'll convey the message to me. Cause you know what, praying to the Father in my name might not be sufficient enough. "There is no one else who has the power to save us, for there is only one name to whom God has given authority by which we must experience salvation: the name of Jesus.” Acts 4:12 TPT
@nicholasvasta1573 that irrelevant even if they were privy to what goes on earth, nowhere in scripture are we instructed to pray TO Saints whether dead or alive. Praying to Mary & the Saints is unbiblical! There's a difference between asking family or friends to pray For you, to praying To dead people! Jesus is both Mediator & Intercessor. If Jesus is sufficient for both those roles then why do we need to pray to Mary or one of the saints, who by the way, are dead and departed? Yes, they are alive in heaven, however, there is no scriptural basis for praying to them, rather the opposite is true! Intercession is biblical for you and I who are living, to pray FOR one another, but not to pray to departed people. The saints in heaven may be privy to the prayers of the saints on earth. However, nowhere in scripture are we instructed to pray To Them! Should the living seek guidance from the Dead? Look to God’s instructions and teachings! People who contradict his word are completely in the dark. Philippians 4:6-7 [6]Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; [7]and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
If they are witness and Jesus say they celebrate when we convert. Then they can see what we do, and hear our prays to them, they aren’t onipresent. God who is onipresent show them whenever He wants. And if they are alive and they are members of the Church in Heaven, and they can hear us, when why can’t we pray to them to ask them to pray to us ? If you think it’s unnecessary cause God will listen to our prays before them, then it’s better to just pray to God. I would ask you, if you’re in this utilitarian mind self why are you praying, God can read your mind and see the future, he knows what you want and can give to you before you even ask. What’s the point of Praying them ? This is not about reason and utility. It’s about honoring God in his terms
1. Is christ Lord? 2. Is christ sovereign? 3. Are his words open to negotiated interpretation? 4. Is context important? 5. Is the bible infallible? 6. Where does Christs words come from? 7. Who saves?
Two questions: 1. How do you go from asking people to pray for you to asking people in heaven? Where is there evidence that they can hear our prayer? God is omniscient but humans aren’t. 2. We see in the Bible prayer requests given to other living believers. But where do we see a prayer request given to someone who died?
My brother i appreciate you, those are some very good question. Dows the Bible explicitly instruct us to petition for the saints in heaven to pray for us...
@ItsJu5tJordy you're most welcome, and with that, i welcome you to ask for any clarification with the scripture you referenced and its context, and i will be more than glad to break bread with you
Whilst I appreciate Trent’s grace, and his focus on looking at context & church history, I think he was obfuscating a lot of the problematic parts of the Marian prayer here. There’s a reason why he didn’t touch what was said in 1:21-1:24 and it’s because that is pure blasphemy. There’s no way around it.
This guy acts like every Catholic knows all this information. It’s just too much for me. It doesn’t have to be that complicated, just submit to Jesus and make him your lord.
@@JJ-cw3nf Muslims believe however that your own righteousness can get you to God whereas only Jesus' righteousness was perfect which is why it is only through Jesus that anyone has access to the Father.

The same way you disagree with Islam with your evidence for your beliefs in Jesus. Catholics too disagree the same way to Protestantism, and use their evidence for the beliefs
The one thing I learned very quick when I was deconstructing my knowledge of scripture is that Satan is cleaver and no better way than to use the mother of Jesus as form of prayer. By doing so gives adoration and gratitude when prayers are “answered” to Mary’s “intervention.” But this position is meant for the Holy Spirit.. does it not boarder line on the coattails when the Pharisees accused Christ’s miracles to be the source of Jezebel? It wasn’t the calling of Jezebel that made it blasphemous but rather the false application of the source.
I'm still not convinced it's a good idea to ask Mary to intercede on your behalf TO Jesus, the way Jesus intercede for us. I agree that, as it's written, the prayer of a righteous man avails much, and God is not a God of the dead but of the living. And yet, I suppose the only context 8n which I'm comfortable singleing Mary out is to ask the way she did for the wine at the wedding, as if to say here's a group of people who are doing things wrong and have no life in them, but turn them to wine anyway out of mercy.
It actually is quite simmilar to what you say Mary intercede to her son, ultimately God works the wonders. But as the miracle of water to wine shows us, Mary mediates with others and her son. Her son knows her and she knows her son. We get to God through jesus and how better to learn of the son than through his mother. So Mary to us is like another window to jesus, being able to see Jesús through the eyes of a mother.
J, yet, many in the early Church sought the mediation and intercession of mere human beings like Peter and Paul and their prayers and shadow and handkerchiefs, as we are God's coworkers, for not even death can separate us! Peace always in Jesus Christ our Great and Kind God and Savior, He whose Flesh is true food and Blood true drink
@@matthewbroderick6287 right, and I have no doubt we'll all have the chance to meet all of them in the age to come. I agree with the notion that she is a great example of faith and obedience for us, and certainly was one of the first to believe in the Lord and His coming. But remember that many who are first will be last. Venerate Christ, so that it is Him you seek to imitate, and it is His image that the Holy Spirits shines in your heart, so that He can come forth in you.
Asking people in heaven to pray for us negates the relationship we are supposed to have with Jesus. He said that no man can get to the Father unless they go through him; so, you are wasting your time and prayers to pray to anyone, but Christ. He fulfilled the law...to pray to others to go to God on your behalf, you are merely replacing the temple priests with the dead in Christ.
The push back that I have when people say is that people dont worship mary is different per country that you live in. Here in the Philippines most of my kababayans do have statues of Mary and they not only revere her but pray for her everyday and is considered same as Jesus in authority. Others view him as the mother of God like mother thats why they call her mama mary. I get the point if you have a loved one you miss them and will have kiss their picture. My dad died when I was 19 and yes I miss him but do I pray to him everyday asking him to pray for me and do I kiss his picture everyday asking him to pray me to get hired and showed favor to my boss? No because that means I am attributing to him the same powers that is given to Jesus only. So I think on a traditional and emotional basis the defense of praying to mary can be applied but logically it cant because its very hard to defend this stand on a logical and scriptural standpoint. If she is also like us in the body of Christ. Like what Dr craig said that he cant be a RC intellectually due to inconsistencies like these. Great job ruslan. Great interview.
''No because that means I am attributing to him the same powers that is given to Jesus only'' Brother the saints in Heaven take our prayers (requests) to God (Revelation 5:8) Nothing more, nothing less.
As a Catholic, I do feel that Marian devotion can often lead to Mary worship. There are quite a few Catholics who almost exclusively pray “through” Mary.
This is so interesting! I loved hearing the guest's thoughts and reasoning. I've never thought about it like that... I have so many more questions now!!
The guest does use ancient scriptural hermeneutics and exegesis going as far the time of the Church fathers, that is why it sounds so unusual for modern hearers. It is pretty unknown by modern Christians (mostly protestants/evangelicals) who are mostly deeped into contemporary thoughts about what Christianity is supposed to be.
@@sasukeCS7or example, asking other to pray for you was applied to living members only not the saints! Also the cloud of witnesses verses is misused. It’s just heroes of the faith hall of fame. There’s no suggestion to pray to them from that verse.
The Holy Spirit biblically has used people to reveal The Father and The Son (Jesus Christ). I don't think you have a problem with Peter, James, John and other apostles leading people to Jesus but you have a problem with the mother of Jesus leading people to Jesus. Is it because she is a women or do you just hate Jesus' mother?
Yes she is when our lady of Guadalupe Happened after 9 million Mexicans Turned to Christ Look at When our lady visited Elizabeth our lady led her to the savior and because of mother Mary Jesus performed his first miracle
It is the Holy Spirit that draws people to Christ. This is just another example of attributing Divine attributes to Mary without cause while still denying the worship. Very strange, spiritual indeed
This is how we can start with these kind of discourse to bring understanding in recognizing we are all one in Christ Roman Catholic, protestants, orthodox, we all believe CHRIST is our saviour and our God. Let's become one against satan
@@duckymomo7935 Please stop spreading lies. We are admonished by Paul to not be perpetrators of strife and division, but of love and unity. There is rarely even mention of Mary during any given Mass, which is almost the whole point of Catholicism. Mass is undeniably 100% centered on the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, the Lamb who takes away our sin. There is a reason Marian devotion and other things adjacent to Christ are considered optional by the Magisterium.
@@sasukeCS7 Many Catholics but not all believe that faith plus our own self-righteousness gives eternal life. The Bible however says that eternal life is a free gift. James states that we are justified before men by our works. Paul says that we are justified before God by faith alone. It is impossible to do good works unless one has already been born again otherwise they are simply dead works of self-righteousness. You can't love God and love others unless the supernatural love of God is being poured out in your heart which is only possible if you have already received the Spirit of God by faith in Jesus Christ alone!
It's indeed a sleight of hands (or of thoughts in this case). This is what he did. Dead Saints are alive, see and hear us, which can be inferred from the passage on the cloud of witness (Heb 12:1). Dead Saints pray to (communicate with) God, which can be inferred from the passage on the souls under the altar (Rev 6:9-11). Hence, we can pray to Dead Saints to intercede for us. He failed to show from the Scripture that we are allowed to pray to the Dead Saints even if they see and hear us, so he appealed to a 3rd century Church tradition. But here is the problem. If we talk to the dead because they hear us and can speak to God on our behalf. Can't we also inquire from them, since they can hear God on our behalf and can speak to us. But, we know that God is against this according to Deut 18:10-11. Or is it that they can only hear us, but can't speak to us? There is no doubt that that the dead Saints are alive in, and are with Christ, as our God is the God of the living (Matthew 22:32, Mark 12:27, Luke 20:38). They are witnesses to our walk of faith (Hebrews 12:1), just as the angels are help agents in our walk of faith (Hebrews 1:14), but neither of the 2 groups can be accorded any rights either temporarily or permanently as object of our faith. They also cannot serve as intermediaries between us and God, cause we have only one such, which is God the Son (1 Tim 2:5). Not even the example of Moses and Elijah talking to Jesus at His transfiguration is good enough an example. It only shows that it is possible for God to send the Dead on missions, which in this case was to show the superiority of The Son over the law and the prophets, as He is the fulfilment of their purpose, and also as He is the only one to be listened to thenceforth. It cannot be inferred that we are expected to seek their supplications. In deed, there are many in Heaven, but for us, only one matters, that is our God, just as Psalm 73:25 reads "Whom have I in heaven but you?".
Also Trent has a low view of scripture that he used an analogy of talking scripture and historical tradition with Protestant as with atheist That’s how every catholic apologist tries to deflect the question, by giving analogies
Hebrews 4:15-16 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Intercession from Mary and dead saints is very unbiblical! It’s communicating with the dead and most cultures actually frown upon disturbing the dead
same here, good thing, there is nothing convincing than the Bible itself. Unfortunately, some people would be like..Aha, now I understood Catholicism to be true...don't be a distraction to people brother.
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. 1 Tim 2:5 “We’re surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses”… Jesus calls those who tell the world about Him “Witnesses” the heroes of faith described in the previous chapter, Hebrews 11, were witnesses for the Lord, telling “His-tory” not witnessing us here on earth. We too are witnesses for the Lord. When reading that verse completely, it says …“and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, “looking to Jesus”the pioneer and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:1-2).” Looking to who? Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. Please family, ask the Holy Spirit to help you rightly divide scripture, degrees and intelligence won’t save you, only His Spirit will.🙏🏽
Here is a consecration prayer to Mary.. "O Mary, Virgin most powerful and Mother of mercy, Queen of Heaven and Refuge of sinners, we consecrate ourselves to thine Immaculate Heart. We consecrate to thee our very being and our whole life; all that we have, all that we love, all that we are.
@DogOneIsOpen.

Catholicism is one big excuse. - Catholics view mary as the only priest who can offer up our prayers to God but what then happens to the death and resurrection of Christ? It becomes unnecessary. His sacrifice tore that veil down so any ordinary man could go directly to God, without the need for a physical mediator.
While its good to go directly to God, its also good to ask for the prayers(intercession) of fellow Christians:
Confess your faults one to another, and _pray one for another_ , that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much - James 5:16
Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your _prayers to God _*_for_*_ me_ - Romans 15:30
Finally, brethren, _pray for us_ , that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you - 2 Thessalonians 3:1
Thank you!!!! It seemed to me that this catholic doctrine is founded on the lack of faith in the father. The bible says to come boldly before the throne of grace.
Opinions I got from here are :
Very thought provoking points 👍
@Arvin
About your first question, believers directly go to (temperory) heaven/paradise to be with the Lord.
Yes, for 2: we cannot make such judgments and is very man centered
This gentleman is trying to justify how its ok to pray to Mary or even your relatives:
The Bible has a negative view of necromancy or attempts to communicate with the dead. In fact, all contact with the spirit world is expressly forbidden irrespective of the nature of the spirits concerned (Lv 19:26-31; Dt 18:10-11; Job 7:7-10; Is 8:18-20; Lk 16:19-31).
Necromancy is trying to communicate with the dead through a demonically possessed medium. Praying to Saints isn’t necromancy.
The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God from the angel’s hand."
Luke 15:10 - "In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."
@@blessedmususu1911 The bible seems to disagree with your statement. "Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working." -James 5:16

Start reading from 1 Timothy 2:1-5. The first verse is going to catch you out
Mary intercedes between man and Jesus. Jesus is God. Mary isn’t between Jesus and God
Also, “let the children come to me”
Christ did not say, let the children come to my mother and I’ll accept whoever she accepts
In fact with this verse, the saints are gatekeeping, which Christ condemned!
Facts! Jesus also said he would leave a comforter, the Holy Spirit (John 14:16) .... like it says in the next verse (17) The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. This isn't in the Bible. This is breaking the first & second commandment. But seeing how RCC removed the second commandment from their Bible.
If Mary was so important why does he say this in Mark 3
33¶But He answered them, saying, “Who is My mother, or My brothers?”
34And He looked around in a circle at those who sat about Him, and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers!
35“For whoever does the will of God is My brother and My sister and mother.”
And why say Hail Mary... you should only hail Jesus... He is the King of Kings...
Well said 👏
Mary is married to Joseph and not only that she also had Jesus as her only child but she had other children and they were Simon and Jude and James and Jose and two unnamed daughters too.

I have Catholic friends too and they love Jesus and worship Jesus and they were great.
Where Catholics stand on gifts of the Holy Spirit:
They are active and present in all Christian communities. We just have a bigger emphasis on the higher ranked gifts of teaching etc. We understand lists in the new testament to be hierarchical. So when Paul lists the gifts of the Holy spirit, the gift of tongues for example is very low down.

Also this idea that Mary will look like Jesus is so weird to me.Matthew 12:47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”
48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers.
That it was saying all of us should take her into our home as our mother. It’s typology that leads them to believe Mary as our mother. I almost fell in this trap until the spirit led me away from the Catholic Church.
I hope you are consistent with this thinking throughout the entire Holy Bible. Contrary to what was said about baptism during their discussion... we are clear that Scripture teaches that water Baptism does not save you. John said, "I baptize with water." John 1. Then he explained that one would come after him baptizing with the Holy Spirit. Titus 3:5 says that He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit. I sincerely hope everyone understands the meaning of 1 Peter 3:21, Acts 10:44-48, and how John 3:5 cross references with Ezekiel 36:25-27.
Should the living seek guidance from the Dead? Look to God’s instructions and teachings! People who contradict his word are completely in the dark.
Take a look at the following scriptural references:
Romans 8:34
[34]Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes INTERCESSION for us.
Hebrews 4:14-16

This was a fantastic summary of one of the main reasons why this is a false gospel.
Are you slow?
I'm still not convinced it's a good idea to ask Mary to intercede on your behalf TO Jesus, the way Jesus intercede for us. I agree that, as it's written, the prayer of a righteous man avails much, and God is not a God of the dead but of the living. And yet, I suppose the only context 8n which I'm comfortable singleing Mary out is to ask the way she did for the wine at the wedding, as if to say here's a group of people who are doing things wrong and have no life in them, but turn them to wine anyway out of mercy.
Agreed
Venerate Christ, so that it is Him you seek to imitate, and it is His image that the Holy Spirits shines in your heart, so that He can come forth in you.
Jesus doesn’t intercede. He’s God.

😂😂😂 how? The whole point is to get clarity on what they believe as to not to strawman or be uncharitable
Also Trent has a low view of scripture that he used an analogy of talking scripture and historical tradition with Protestant as with atheist
That’s how every catholic apologist tries to deflect the question, by giving analogies
Hebrews 4:15-16
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
We venerate not worship & Mary is our mother who will lead us to Christ
The bible has clearly stated the intercessors is Jesus and the HOLYSPIRIT.
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. 1 Tim 2:5
“We’re surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses”… Jesus calls those who tell the world about Him “Witnesses” the heroes of faith described in the previous chapter, Hebrews 11, were witnesses for the Lord, telling “His-tory” not witnessing us here on earth. We too are witnesses for the Lord. When reading that verse completely, it says …“and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, “looking to Jesus”the pioneer and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:1-2).”
Looking to who? Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.
Please family, ask the Holy Spirit to help you rightly divide scripture, degrees and intelligence won’t save you, only His Spirit will.🙏🏽
Here is a consecration prayer to Mary..
"O Mary, Virgin most powerful and Mother of mercy, Queen of Heaven and Refuge of sinners, we consecrate ourselves to thine Immaculate Heart.
We consecrate to thee our very being and our whole life; all that we have, all that we love, all that we are. To thee we give our bodies, our hearts and our souls; to thee we give our homes, our families, our country." Does this sound like intercession?????
Yes
@@tricks177 No..
It sounds like explicit idolatry. If this isn't idolatry, rhen what is?
@@jackieruiz2348 Worshipping a false God, or making something that isn't God into God
@@tricks177Exactly what this prayer is about. Why can't you see that? Is it that difficult?
@@nebucamv5524 Prayer =\= worship
Huh the guest said you could ask anyone dead who you think could pray for you...that's what praying to Mary leads you. Stick to Jesus.
