I remember a little boy qho loved to play the piano. I've been following you for about a year now and I say bravo Nathan 🎉🎉🎉. God has Blessed you in so many ways and I'm so pleased for you. Don't give up on spreading your God given talent with others. ❤
Beautiful my brother, a true work of art. God never lets His own down as long as we put the work in. Well done man. It is my dream also to have live instruments and choirs behind me too, there is only so much that you can do with samples.
@@NathanJamesLarsen appreciate the support. I am happy that you finally did it. The strings sound so much more raw when they are recorded live, you can hear the scratching of the strings.
Just have to chime in here. I've been following you through your journey ever since we were sitting next to each other at graduation/testing your audio trimming class and it's so cool to watch you improve at your skills not only in composition, but also production, editing, marketing, teaching... all while growing your family which has it's own separate unique and difficult but rewarding problems. I remember talking with you and, even then, you had this dream. It's really great to see things coming into fruition. Keep that drive man. You're doing amazing things!
I have been a passive member of your audience for a while now (I watch your videos but have never commented or interacted with your videos). This. Was. Unreal. Can you say goosebumps? That time and effort that you spent creating this was so incredibly worth it. Way to go, man.
Wow thank you. So meaningful. That is EXACTLY what I was hoping this would do. Cannot wait for the future - 2024 videos are gonna be all somewhat like this style - showing the process and telling stories. Maybe working on full blown orchestral scoring?? I dunno... maybe 😉
Are you going to release this with it's own music video? The production sounded great but now the song is cut up and buried at the end of this vid. 😁 PS: if you have a truck or a van you can always pre-setup things like mic stands/microphones etc. If stuff gets a little dinged up... 🤷♂️.. it's just character from use.
I doesn't suck, but as a listener it doesn't really grab the ear. Feel like if you mixed it up with the volume articulation within sections it would help. You have one section that stays peaking at around the same db level for the whole part. Then the quieter part that is suddenly quieter and stays at around that same DB. Then it goes back to the original db area. Just kind of boring in my opinion. Like maybe have it slower in the beginning and only have like the cellos in there, then when the big part hits, it feels more impactful.
You are an amazing producer and please don't give up on it. I'll try to phrase this as nicely as I can. It sounds like a car commercial. Like the end credits of a Disney movie. Now, that's all cool and stuff, but it doesn't really connect with the listener (me). All you needed was a voice and a cello and breaking out of sequencer clock. I'll reference Aurora's version of Nat King Cole's song 'Nature Boy'. That's all you need for this song. The song is quiet and contemplative as it's a gentle prayer in a church that explodes into Hallelujah. Great work all and all, not working for me.
That was inspiring! I don’t know who said your music sucked, but I have seen many of your videos, and I think you are talented and a great teacher. Thank you!
Hi Nathan. Amazing take on hallelujah!! I have one question: According to my memory with the original version of hallelujah, I don’t believe there is a pause before the climax of the song. Chris here (Jeremy Sutherland’s writing partner): Nathan, this is stunning. How fulfilling to be able to achieve something at this high level. You’re the best!
No this is Beautiful !! It struck a chord. There will always be haters. You know the people who just have to be negative or their day is not complete. And constructive criticism is needed to evolve too if it is actually meant to be constructive and it comes from a good place. Otherwise ignore. Was great to see this all come together.
Agreed - being an artist is this fine balance of "not caring what people think" while at the same time "caring DEEPLY about what people think" - straddling that is hard and knowing when to take things to heart and when to ignore and be so difficult. A nivel composición es excelente! A nivel de mezcla por momentos siento que las cosas suenan separadas y no juntas como deberían. Igualmente es un trabajo realmente bien hecho! Felicitaciones!!
If only you could hear where I started. I'm being 100% serious. It took me YEARS to even get to a "decent" place. I started writing songs at 10 years old and started producing at 14 so I do have this advantage of time... I've just been doing it for like 15 years. But the first 5 years or so was AWFUL. Like... there is not a person alive who would have given me opportunities I have now because I just was not there. So... what should you do? First off ... evaluate WHY you make music. Are you doing it because you love it? I hope so - because if there is any other reason then it won't be sustainable... if it's fame you seek - I promise it'll leave you empty and fall short and won't sustain you to put in the time and effort. YOU MUST start by having a true passion for music - and loving it. If you love the process more than the outcome then you will get WAY further. I honestly kind of hate "finished" songs because the fun is over. Like when I finish a song - it's great right? But at the same time - the high is now over, because I enjoy the chase of piecing things together more than I enjoy observing the result. That is a theme I see amongst my colleagues - is we like the process 100x more than the outcome. When we finish - it's almost like "Okay, cool - what's next?" we dont' sit around drooling over what we made because even at this level it's really more like "What did I learn and how can I apply that to the next song?" It's a never ending learning process - I am STILL learning and still seeking to get 1% better every song. From there... the answer is right in front of all of us... Do it 100 times. Then 100 more. The truth is that a lot of people want the easy button - and it literally does not exist. I HATE that you can find videos claiming you will be a pro after watching them - it's literally not possible. It's a lie. It's trash - it's dishonest. The truth is a harder pill to swallow ... the truth is you have to make 100 songs and until you do you can't really learn. Focusing on perfecting 1 song will teach you nothing compared to finishing 100 "average" songs. Because after you finish song number 100 - you can actually look back with a new perspective and see "wow... I have gottten better" But if you only do the 1 ... you have no perspective. I have some videos on my channel about this -- here's one that I think might help you: ruclips.net/video/vZRZ4oxUUs0/видео.html I know this might seem a bit "discouraging" but I promise you I mean it to do the opposite - focus on passion and creation - not results.
@@NathanJamesLarsen So sweet of you to put some a long reply. I was more being glib and self-deprecating for laughs. But thank-you all the same. Means a lot that you took the time to write something so in-depth :) I did a Bachelor of Music majoring in Production and Music Composition... I have other obstacles. I have a true passion for music; I just have some health issues that I'm allowing to get in the way a bit but I'll get there. I don't make music for acclaim or recognition (not that there's anything wrong with that); I write music because I love it, it's intimately tied to my sense of identity and it brings something of value to my life. Sounds good but those drums are so overproduced and overpower everything, this song does not need drums like that. Sounds very out of place and ruins a lot of the emotion.
I actually think people having strong thoughts around something like this is a good thing - it means you have taste that you can articulate! I personally love the drums - I think they do exactly what I wanted them to do - but it is truly a GOOD THING you have opinions - we are all entitled to think how we would like and have the tastes we have! Thanks for taking the time to articulate your thoughts!
@@NathanJamesLarsen Thanks for the reply, I enjoy watching your stuff even though I sometimes disagree with some of the production choices. Keep making stuff.
You really challenged yourself! It is not easy to justify doing yet another cover version of something so covered… but you succeeded gloriously! Loved this video and made me cry. ❤ Btw, I subtitled in Finnish the great documentary on this song. Strongly recommend to watch it, I don’t know on which platform it might be in the US.
It would be nice if we can watch a stripped-down version of this meaning a less ADHD approach to the video and he just sit over your shoulder as you work. I really hate videos that move so fast like there is a legit reason as to why you need to rush everything. We want to see behind the scenes and get a feel of what it's like to do it. With all the "impactful" and "exciting" fast-paced short clips mashed together feels like early 2000s RUclips. Nowadays we are prepared to watch longer form content! I do also want to say GREAT job!
@NathanJamesLarsen MAN, The album you released is AMAZING, I love the voice, the instruments and the effects. Don’t care about what people try to say. You are an amazing musician and u have helped me a lot with your videos. Keep on making amazing music, cause you are doing great!!!!!!
Absolutely brilliant. I just image a full orchestra with a powerful 4-horn counterline, trumpet accents at climactic points, some high woodwind runs and string ostinatos. But then this would enter Thomas Bergersons realms. 😉
If I was covering something like this 10 years ago I would just do it as a general midi arrangement on my Roland SC-88 Pro. I did just that when I covered Somewhere only we know but then again I only produce music as a hobby so I can get away with my backing tracks sounding really synthetic. But it boggles my mind how people can say top quality Kontakt libraries sound like trash even if you know how to program them and make them sound convincing. Unfortunately even many other professional producers either can't afford to hire a live string section or/and don't know anyone wo can play in a string section. Honestly to me most TV series music even if it is 100% done with Kontakt libraries still sounds just as convincing to me and I can't tell the difference and the average person watching isn't going to know if it's a sample library or even care. I think most people who feel the need to insult music done completely with Kontakt libraries are paraniod because they think computers are going to make real instruments obsolete which couldn't be further from the truth! Music for films is still performed by a live orchestra and in many cases the final soundtrack will be a mix of both midi and live instruments unless it's a really low budget film then maybe everything will be synthesized but that never stopped anyone making a great soundtrack.

especially the drum sounds, they sound cheap af
This was awesome,
Perfection is never easy.
You really challenged yourself! It is not easy to justify doing yet another cover version of something so covered… but you succeeded gloriously! Loved this video and made me cry. ❤ Btw, I subtitled in Finnish the great documentary on this song. Strongly recommend to watch it, I don’t know on which platform it might be in the US.
good stuff
I appreiciate ur hardwork,it was so emotional watching this video....🙌
It would be nice if we can watch a stripped-down version of this meaning a less ADHD approach to the video and he just sit over your shoulder as you work. I really hate videos that move so fast like there is a legit reason as to why you need to rush everything. We want to see behind the scenes and get a feel of what it's like to do it. With all the "impactful" and "exciting" fast-paced short clips mashed together feels like early 2000s RUclips. Nowadays we are prepared to watch longer form content! I do also want to say GREAT job!
Wow
it sucks. the beat you made in the vid " using bandlab but u ended up using logic is better
🤷♂️🤷♂️
@NathanJamesLarsen MAN, The album you released is AMAZING, I love the voice, the instruments and the effects. Don’t care about what people try to say. You are an amazing musician and u have helped me a lot with your videos. Keep on making amazing music, cause you are doing great!!!!!!
✨ t a l e n t ✨
Your music and tips are great, thanks to your tips I’ve basically levelled up the album I’m working on! Thanks
I did just that when I covered
Somewhere only we know but then again I only produce music as a hobby so I can get away with my backing tracks sounding really synthetic. But it boggles
my mind how people can say top quality Kontakt libraries sound like trash even if you know how to program them and make them sound convincing. Unfortunately
even many other professional producers either can't afford to hire a live string section or/and don't know anyone wo can play in a string section. Honestly to me
most TV series music even if it is 100% done with Kontakt libraries still sounds just as convincing to me and I can't tell the difference and the average person watching
isn't going to know if it's a sample library or even care. I think most people who feel the need to insult music done completely with Kontakt libraries are paraniod
because they think computers are going to make real instruments obsolete which couldn't be further from the truth! Music for films is still performed by a live
orchestra and in many cases the final soundtrack will be a mix of both midi and live instruments unless it's a really low budget film then maybe everything
will be synthesized but that never stopped anyone making a great soundtrack.
Ok now I have +20 armor against mosquitos cause of the insane goosebumps
Thanks man😂
Perfect work ❤
