One of the best scenes I’ve seen in a video game. I struggle to think of a scene in another game that built tension this masterfully. I was immediately put on edge when Regis walked in with Detlaff, and with the less-than-subtle hints at Oriana being a vampire as well added to that uneasy feeling. That things might boil over at any moment. And that they pulled off a scene like that purely through the dialogue, setting, and music was extremely impressive. Best game.
It never dawned on me that Oriana was a vampire in my first playthough, in retrospect the way she defeated the attacker and trashed the room is enough of a hint.
That and the B&W trailer :D something MUST have changed with Geralt as the years passed since Blood & Wine. Maybe a betrayal, or he just ran out of monsters to kill :P the Witcher, brave and bold, paid in coin or gold. Great scene!
@@mikfhan Nah, I think Orianna slipped. Maybe someone discovered the truth of her Orphanage. Let us also not forget that initially Dettlaff does send legions of the dark on Toussain until Geralt pleads a bargain with him. So people were likely very terrified of vampires and the like as of that moment.
I suspected it when she said that she’s known Regis for literal ages. That’s why I chose the “You sound surprised,” option. The whole can’t believe that he would have something in common with a witcher line confirmed it for me.
8:33 I like how that deciding for an answer adds to the drama - Geralt just looking at Regis, saying nothing, doing nothing, probably against his better judgment, and then "few I can rely on like I can on Regis". Regis just brought the "object" of Geralt's contract, a killer, a beast (we don't know yet that Dettlaff is actually a victim of a true beast ) right under his nose and Geralt does nothing and is like "This really looks like a huge shitshow but I trust you beyond words, bro". and Regis then slightly nods with this relief and thanks. There is so much going on that is not verbalized, under the surface so to say and that makes this scene so, so good. Such good writing.
You now he was evil I mean what's worst What he did or what his girlfriend did He is responsible of what happened in the city men , women and children all dead because he was angry damn him and damn his nasty girlfriend
The Orianna vampire reveal was masterful. As soon as I saw Regis and Dettlaff walking up behind her I was like "I fucking knew this DLC would involve high society vampires"
he would not, first of all there was Geralt and Regis to stop him and he wasn't planning to kill the 5th target already, he was planning to find the blackmailer.
Absolute masterclass of a scene here. The most powerful woman in Toussaint, a Master Witcher and THREE Vampires sit together and discuss matters of grave importance... And dresses. I picked up on Orianna being a Vampire mere seconds before she mentioned she knew Regis and had for ages. But it is so subtly confirmed throughout the scene. Detlaff, who doesn't know how to lie properly by Regis's own words, subtly apologising to Geralt for everything, and asking for his help even. Must have taken everything he had to do so. And just... There's Tension, but there's an air of calm as well. No matter ho good he is, I doubt even Geralt could fight Orianna and Detlaff at once, but Regis has brought them together and has such faith in the goodness of all his friends that they will remain calm and collected. And his faith is rewarded. He is able to bring Geralt around further to his side. I played this for the first time and I was just smiling. It reminds me of the fantastic writing found in early Game of Thrones, as an example. Fantasy Politics, Court Intrigue and Plots are always so fascinating, especially when they are nuanced and have depth.
Given that the scene probably isn't her orphanage and we see Toussaint in the background, I'm thinking Anna or someone (depending on how long after ANTR takes place) put a bounty on Orianna. She probably slipped somewhere.
"A hairpin might look like mere ornament, but plunged into an eye it can be as effective as a blade, I assure you" It was at this moment I knew someone was going to be killed with a hairpin. Unfortunately for me, I couldn't figure out who until one moment before

what exactly was she going to do if she did find out then and there? if anything Geralt would be killed and he isn't going to foolishly jump into fight a higher vampire with no prep time, you do know Geralt has been killed by normal people before right?
Yeeeaaa...as soon as she said "she's known Regis for...ages" I knew she was a vampire and she was to damn comfortable with 2 other vampires at the table lol

They don't even feel fear, so that's another point, but I am certain that many higher monsters mistake witchers to be mere humans, when they are not in any way, human. Geralt is in all sense a monster, a relentless one, with the abilities of actual animals and monsters within him, the raw destructive power of a minor sorcerer and let's not forget his higher than normal detective intelligence and relentelssly trained sword combat (not to mention he usually has a sword that contains alloys and metals that are close to science fiction level of lethality). Combine these and you get a being that is most likely the very definition of death. Needless to say, if one wrongs geralt or gives him serious reason to kill oneself, one better give up.
Unless one is the Unseen Elder. Geralt doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell against the Unseen Elder. Given enough time, Regis and Detlaff would become as powerful as the Unseen Elder was too.

I think it was just because they wanted to make a cool trailer with a monster but they didn't settle on her character yet at that time. Later they reused her model. But yeah, she's definitely a Higher one :)
@@NLWilmar so you though she just knows two other higher vamps randomly and she also said they known each-other for "ages"? :) I knew at the party when you investigate, when she started to refer to men as "males" something is off with her :) people just don't speak like that. cool little detail too
Orianna is a Bruxa and Bruxae are also considered higher vampires. She probably is a particularly old/powerful one though.
It's only a game.... but you can actually *feel* the room shift when Dettlaf arrives, and even increase when he moves to his seat... He hasn't even spoken a word at that point! marvelous storytelling that.
I love how Orianna and Dettlaff have welsh accents ❤ My country
I clocked it during this scene, big give away when she walked in with the two vampires and she clearly knows what’s going on with Detlaff.
I suspected it when she said that she’s known Regis for literal ages. That’s why I chose the “You sound surprised,” option. The whole can’t believe that he would have something in common with a witcher line confirmed it for me.
I loved this dialouge/scene. So well made, coreographed and everything. Especially when Detlaff and Regis enter the scene.
I feel bad for detlaff
we all do. I really didn't want to kill him.
HubenDraknir Narciso thank you
So did I before he sent all those monsters on the city. After then it was clear that he needed to die.
So did I before he sent all those monsters on the city. After it was clear that he needed to die.
You now he was evil
I mean what's worst
What he did or what his girlfriend did
He is responsible of what happened in the city men , women and children all dead because he was angry damn him and damn his nasty girlfriend
That shot at 8:17 is one of many reasons why video games are such a significant platform of storytelling.
The Orianna vampire reveal was masterful. As soon as I saw Regis and Dettlaff walking up behind her I was like "I fucking knew this DLC would involve high society vampires"
Good think Detlaff didn't ever get the fifth note. He would have seized this opportunity
he would not, first of all there was Geralt and Regis to stop him and he wasn't planning to kill the 5th target already, he was planning to find the blackmailer.
+Jayela BRZ I agree.
He then attempts to kill his blackmailer (Syanna). We have an extraordinary situation which the blackmailer and the hostage are the same person.
Jayela BRZ Geralt and Regis couldn't do shit when he silced Syanna
@@AthenaCannon Sounds like something I’d hear Holmes say.
The voice, the accent, the class... hearing how Regis speak make want to throw up at my own voice
I was on the edge of my seat when I got to this scene, the tension was superb!!
Orianna's animated face looks so good! She looks totally real
Realizing "A night to remember" trailer is an epilogue for this,i have more questions than answers.
Given that the scene probably isn't her orphanage and we see Toussaint in the background, I'm thinking Anna or someone (depending on how long after ANTR takes place) put a bounty on Orianna. She probably slipped somewhere.
"A hairpin might look like mere ornament, but plunged into an eye it can be as effective as a blade, I assure you"
It was at this moment I knew someone was going to be killed with a hairpin. Unfortunately for me, I couldn't figure out who until one moment before
The tune starting at 5:03 just fits so well in this scene and captures the atmosphere. Goddamn this scene was genius.
i just can't belive how stupid Anna is i mean Oriana dont stop making hints, "opposites really do attract", "going toe to toe with a monster?" Dettlaff reply immediately say that "It might want to apologize for killing to protect a love one", i mean come on how did you suvived in court again?
And last she knows Regis she never see that teeth and thought something was weird with him??
In the books, Anna is even dumber :)
Ilk it is very easy to dismiss those things.
Tell me, if you were sitting in a room with three Higher Vampires that can’t be killed by anything save one another with only a Superhuman who would -in the circumstances-pose about as much of a challenge to them as a rabbit would to a wolf, would you comment on the fact or keep your damn mouth shut then run the fuck away when you got the chance?
what exactly was she going to do if she did find out then and there? if anything Geralt would be killed and he isn't going to foolishly jump into fight a higher vampire with no prep time, you do know Geralt has been killed by normal people before right?
Or just straight up saying she literally met regies ages ago
Little did Henrietta know that she was the only "pure" human there
Yeeeaaa...as soon as she said "she's known Regis for...ages" I knew she was a vampire and she was to damn comfortable with 2 other vampires at the table lol
I ended up repeating the dialogue at 4:33 multiple times, since the song in the background was giving me the feels.
I agree 100%, and even that what Geralt say is true. It is sad if people get treated like that for something they had nothing to decide this. And that some people do this horrible things because of this treatment.
do you know the name of this song I could not find it on the soundtrack
@@guysomebody2337 it has several names since it is not a an official track, but it’s called syanna’s theme or dialogue alt theme. You’re better off finding it on RUclips
"...She told Cedric of a dream she had had - that he would die..at the hands of his own brother"..Cool foreshadowing to the bad ending of Blood and wine. This and the boy at Orianna's orphanage.
0:48 “A hairpin may look like mere ornament, but... it can be as effective as a blade.”
Wow, that is some serious foreshadowing of the bad ending
This scene in particular, scenes with ODimm and final Regis and Geralt scene is the proof of top tier writing and execution! Excuse me I gotta pick up my jaw from floor
Dettlaff's character is so cool. He just looks badass
8:58 i love the side look they give each other
My favourite part is that Anna Henrietta likes Detlaff and hit the nail on the head about him being a good dude with issues.
Geralt: heard you have a monster problem......
Peasant: BEHOLD IT'S GERALT OF RIVIA, THE BUTCHER OF BLAVIKEN...the....
Geralt: *sigh* "Geralt" is fine...
7:43 I love the entrance of the vampires here, really great scene! Especially with the music
I loved Dettlaff, he wasn't a villain he was hurt badly. Poor guy :/
Exactly, betrayed by the one he loved and forced to kill people when he didn't want to
@@VergilTheLegendaryDarkSlayer That doesn't excuse his actions. He also was dumb enough to be used by syanna .
@@mariosmatzoros3553 love is blind
@@VergilTheLegendaryDarkSlayer I personally do not believe that. Plenty of people can understand what's going on even when they're in love.
@@mariosmatzoros3553 except he didn't know it was Syanna manipulating him into killing people, he was told she would die if he doesn't kill the people listed and he didn't want to put her in danger so he did what he had to to get her back safely
9:37
As much as I love the dialogue in this scene, this part here should have set alarm bells ringing in Henrietta's head. She's not stupid.
Considering she hid Syanna while Beauclair demanded justice, yeah she’s pretty stupid lol
She didn't imagine that her duchy had become a haven for vampires, so she only realized that Detlaff was a sad man with regrets in his past. That's why she turned the topic to him, to his past, and to something happier than monsters.
Or maybe this was here to show how stupid she really is. Remember, beagles are better than witches, and when presented with evidence the correct answer is "I don't believe it"
She is very stupid if you read the books. No different in the game.
Also we have the benefit of having this knowledge as we are playing the game.
It would be very difficult to come to the right conclusion based on this dialogue. No matter how awkward it may sound to her.
Later...
Anna: a vampire so recently sat at my table.
Me: there were three actually...
9:00
Her question. Guess in the end, she got her curiosity satisfied.
So Geralt leaves the duchess alone with two vampires while talking to Regis how dangerous they are. Lol
My favorite scene from blood and wine
I envy people who haven't played the game yet ;d
Makes you wish you had one of those mem wipe devices from MIB
Regis in his heas: hehe lol
Man I was so dissapointed that Dettlaff turned out to be so vengeful...
9:54 the moment hero and villain starts talking gives me chills!!
This is such a class scene, the tension is amazing, and how Anna has no idea of the true nature behind it all. The irony of the situation of power too is amazing
"He's dangerous!"
So you leave him alone with the ruler of Toissant? k
Like being there is going to make any difference...
@@Contevent you literally defeat him so yea
@@jonbaxter2254 You do defeat him, with your weapons, armor, and potions. Geralt's pretty good with his hands, but I'm not convinced you can fist-of-fury's a High Vampire :p
It’s kinda funny that Anna (the duchess) had NOOOO ideas she was the only human at that table.
This is like my favorite moment of any type typ of entertaining ever. Just the athmosphere is so chilling. A true masterpiece.
Detlaff spooked the hell out of me when he turned up in this scene.
this was the most epic spine chilling moment in entire blood and wine quest, anyone can sense the tension between Detlaaf and Geralt .
that moment when Geralt is talking to Detlaff, super unnerving. Could cut the tension in the air with a knife
What an amazing episode of storytelling. Even the consumes are beyond great. And the three higher vampires... chilling!
only geralt can make 2 higher vampires, a very old bruxa and a queen, talk to him with respect and "fear".
though in this scene i always though that the queen might have suspect something is wrong, but alas she is stupid.
cant even read between the lines.
Respect, yes, but FEAR?
Don't get me wrong, Geralt is a total badass, but nobody at that table had any reason to be afraid of him at that point.
Given enough time, Regis and Detlaff would become as powerful as the Unseen Elder was too.
with respect and fear ahhah. I feel like Geralt was the one feeling pretty uneasy there.
Orianna is an higher vampire.
Oriannas face model is almost photorealistic. It stands out from the rest of them. Maybe it was a straight copy from the Night to Remember trailer model?
Also the attention to detail in her dress...
This is late, but I think it’s bc she’s the most unique looking woman out of all the other models. While none of the main female characters look exactly the same, you can definitely see the similarities in their features. Orianna looks like a real person.
because she is straight up Zsuzsanna Rácz who also provided mocap for the trailer
I love how at 10:38 there is a bit of foreshadowing on Regis's part. He states, "vampires, a witcher and the dutchess" leaving out Orianna, and then finding out what she is later... 😅
It was rather obvious tbh
One of the most intense dialogue scenes I've experienced in gaming. The tension in this scene is just so good,, like you can almost touch it
This scene was better than most movies.
Imagine if Regis and detlaf has been at Kaer Morhen when the Hunt attacked! Oh man that would have been a FIGHT.
I think with their help, the might even won against Wild Hunt, but characters like Eredin and Caranthir would be a big challenge to Regis or Detlaff, since both Eredin and Caranthir have powerful magic and great combat technicues.
@@JudgeHolden2003 but against Higher vampires? Shit as far as I know NOother monster in the witcher world is as powerful.
Dude this fuckin' moment floored me. Just when you think this game couldn't get any better its expansions fuckin' knock it out of the park twice over.
Man! I miss this game so much! Haven't played in about 4 years, but it never leaves you. True masterpiece.
Couldn't agree more!
I have fallen in love with Dettlaff, Regis and Geralt. They are so cool and handsome that I even told all my friends about them and pretended they were real in my head and towards my friends. I somehow talk to Dettlaff, Regis, Geralt, Syanna, and many more inside my head as it they were real. Dettlaff, Geralt and Regis's Voice perfectly go with their looks. UwU
8:17 Insert "Pillar Men" Theme.
That fucking moment.
Higher vampire were shown to be almost godlike, unkillable, with terrifying magical abilities, faster than a horse at full speed, powerful enough to carve steel like sand...
And in one instant, you have three of those around you.
Three.
Like a sheep at diner with butchers.
But nice, kind and polite butchers! XD Well, to a degree...
The music drop when Detlaff enters. What a fantastic villain.
The amount of tension puts quality movies to shame really. Best expansion ever, for me it felt better than the main game.
The only bad thing about the Witcher games, is that you’ll never get to experience them for the first time again 😭...until 4 comes out. If it does.
So true. What an experience it was. Like this scene...
It won't. I think everybody agrees that end cutscene for Blood and Wine pretty definitively said Geralt's done.
@@rajaniwolf9466 Oh yes it will. Geralt’s done, but Witcher isn’t. No way, that universe has SO much untapped potential to explore still.
I’m totally fine with a new main character. Maybe it’ll be Ciri, maybe someone else. Plus, you know Geralt will still show up as a side character, even if just as the old mentor type. Just like Vesemir!
@@notenoughgarlic Yeah, it is possible that they'll do another Witcher game, definitely with someone new. I think a lot of it depends on how successful Cyberpunk is. If the studio has success with that, they'll probably be inspired to undertake the huge effort to make another Witcher game.

The music playing in the background, the tension of the atmosphere, the dialogues....
Totally perfect scene.
00:50 that foreshadowing though wow cdpr never ceases to amaze me
An awkward, yet surprisingly civilized gathering of human and vampire.
And the tension between Geralt and Dettlaff... you could cut it with a skinning knife.
Dettlaff looks really badass that's what I like about him
That moment when Geralt predicts the ending 4:02
So...Anyone here play Gwent?

Okay so, I'm playing the dlc now a couple years late, but is it supposed to be super obvious that Orianna is a vampire? I'm hoping that doesn't turn out to be a twist. Regardless, the unspoken dialogue in this scene is excellent. Really enjoyed the tonal set up.
So three vampires, a witcher and the duchess walks into a mansion...
Sounds like the lead up to explaining why someone found a mountain of corpses in a mansion.
soud like start of some bad joke XD
10:35 Had the fifth message been already delivered to Dettlaff, the story would have ended rather quickly here. Oops.
One of the most tense and interesting cut scenes in the game. Felt a little bit like something tarantino would have written
15:16 Geralt should thank the kid for sharing big words of wisdom. So wise that he leveled up
I loved how Orianna was so willing to comply to confidentiality. Given that she's a bruxa so going incognito is part of what she is haha
Henrietta: Damn, didn't know I'm the only human here.
three Vampires, a Witcher and a Queen sit at a table...
*duchess
This is one of the greatest video game scenes of all time, few games can bring out the tension like 3 vampires, a monster hunter and a Duchess on the same table.
One of the greatest scene in movie and game history !
Truth. Simple perfection in every way. Tension, music, dialogue, characters, costumes, scenery.... and did I say tension?
Real holy fuck moment when Dettlaff straight up walked in
The music made me tense up while i was playing this part. Good job Projekt red
This is DETTLAFF. He is wearing ALL BLACK LEATHER. He has black hair with white edges. He is DEFINITELY not a vampire.
could be an elaborate joke
A duchess,a witcher,a bruxa and two vampires talk at a table...
Ahh the tension all four felt in that moment. Excluding Anna since she was clueless as ever, surrounded by 3 vampires (beast of beauclair detlaff himself included) and the Witcher wanting to kill him. Regis being friend of Geralt and also being friend of Detlaff.
Detlaff is so handsome
