Specimen carp fishing tactics honed on vast, low stocked pits aren't really a competitor against match fishing tactics on puddles filled with fish and the same is true on the reverse. At the end of the day it's not a competition, it's horses for courses and we should just try to learn from one another so we can all enjoy the elements of the sport we enjoy.
Absolutely great video. Love that it’s makins lake 1 which does respond well to both tactics and levels the playing field somewhat. This series needs to continue!!
I fished lake 1 I think back in May, carp fished it and lost a Skimmer early on then had nothing all day until I switched to a 4ft zig and caught a 4lb Carp within seconds of casting out, didn't even put the rod down I just felt the rod pulling. After that nothing, and I fished it once last summer and blanked (carping again) there seems to be a good number of carp less than 10lb, I've had much better sessions on lakes 2 and 4 where I've caught a number of doubles.
Very good video. I think it would have been interesting to see a group of match anglers vs a group of Carp lads over a few days and see how the results played out. Overall though another great watch keep up the excellent work. 👍🏼
There is nothing to compete here, match and carp fishing are two different worlds but always a plus when you can watch both tactics at the same time. We all chuck it out but small things make the difference 😉🎣💪.
This is going to be an awesome video! Haven't seen it yet but but i think Andy will win. If the match was longer than 5 hrs id say the carp guy will be winner. But with only 5hrs...
Ian has a point when he said dont bring me to a puddle, i think that lake suited Andy, could do a round 2 at a venue of Ians choosing and then maybe a round 3 at somewhere like Drayton
Excellent video 🎣👍 . I wish some of the tackle shops sell Dynamite baits here in B.C 🇨🇦. As I'm getting down really low, I have to have my parents. Back in England 🏴, to ship me boilies, pellets, ground bait mixs. Frigging pain in the ARSE ,$$$. As I live in B.C 🇨🇦 now, yer catching Big sturgeon, salmon ,trout. Is okay. Carp fishing is my passion, my p.b here is 22lb. Don't compare to my p.b in England 32.4oz ( Dave's lk ) between Kettering and Corby North Hampshire.
I think the answer is that match tactics are best for a match, and carp tactics are best for a session of hunting down that big'un while accepting any bonuses along the way. Simples lol
All the bigger carp are litterally under your feet in there. Used to fish it loads as a kid. Great venue for anyone getting into carp angling to learn the basics👍
You should do this test on a natural venue like say a canal stretch known to hold carp. Commercials and specimen waters are not the answer. Love the banter as always tho 🎣
Neither is best, Fly is king! 😉🤣 Have to admit i enjoy Rob's presenting style whatever the fishing, have really enjoyed the vids he's done with the Fishing in Wales channel.
Andy makes things happen = Match Angling! Ian baits stands and waits for something to happen = Big Carp Angling! Match Fishing will always Win IMHO 👍🎣🐟😃
like Ian said take it to a specimen lake with low stock next time, and see who "wins". You cant even compare the two types of fishing really. , the point of specimen angling is to catch the biggest of the species/lake not the most total weight of small fish...
Fun watch, but not fair. This is an all out match venue. I’d suggest a rematch on the Yateley car park lake - let the match run for half a year. Will be interesting to see how long Andy lasts until his arms fall off 😂
The chuck it and chance it bivvy boys always get found out, when they bring their tiger nuts and trouser presses into proper fishing. Real angers don't need a sleeping bag ;)
A long running fallacy surrounding carp fishing is indeed that you just chuck it in and wait. Shame, because those who follow that advice are destined to fail. Watercraft and remaining mobile is what catches carp consistently. Which is almost the same way to succeed in match fishing, using watercraft to identify your lines and respond to the water/fish behaviour. So whilst many bivvy boys chuck it and hope, that's not how carp fishing is done.
@@mrdjr6544 You are in a very small minority amongst carp anglers my friend, if you understand watercraft. I'd wager that you didn't learn it fishing for carp?
@@EddiePedalo couldn't have put it better. On every fishery that I've seen specimen anglers their approach has been consistent. Bait, cast and wait. No watercraft on show anywhere.
@@EddiePedalo Learned from watching videos on here. In all my angling books there's only one that really delves deep into it, Tactical Pike Fishing by Mike Ladle. So for the first 25 years I didn't U derstabd water craft. Then RUclips and the Mike Ladle book came about. It's tricky though, some of the more appealing waters require you to book a specific peg, which I've done plenty of times only to find myself at the opposite side of the action! But without a doubt, match fishermen are experts at seeing things mere mortals do not see. A really good subject I could discuss for hours.
I spent 3 years as a club fishery manager with a club committee consisting of 50/50 bivvy boys and match anglers. Let me tell you it was hell. It was hell mostly because the average IQ in the room was about 15, so any management plans I put forward were squabbled over like the last chocolate in the box at kindergarten.. The only way to properly manage lakes for these factions is give them their own lakes. Which is impossible in a club
Its Big carp tactics vs Match tactics. They use one rod or pole at a time in a match and put 100% focus into it to get many smaller fish from high population waters. For big carp its 2-3 rods setup knowing its a long haul for the one big fish from a sparsley populated water. If a match angler has two rods in the water he isnt match angling. Its perfectly fair if you understand how and what the tactics produce within the realms of this challenge.
Wow I fished there as a 12yr old when there was but 2 lakes. Pulled out tons of mini carp at my feet while old boys blanked 10 feet out. Bugger all trees there was then, don't recognise the place at all
Fshing 2 rods unlike andy mays 1 hahahaha ... Bivvies divies will sit days for 1 or 2 fish and match anglers will always out catch them . the amount of bait that carp anglers fire out just makes no sense on commercials like this . always makes me laugh when they turn up on commercials for a day session , set up their bivvies , fire out huge boilies with bite alarms for 1 or 2 fish, of course there are times when carp angling is the only way to go but the very fact he had to use 2 rods to even give him a chance says it all , Great video
Get a bigger net. Think its shameful the size of nets match Anglers use. Constantly see the carp all folded up in a tiny net and then dropped into a keepnet with dozens of others. Ridiculous. No wonder so many day tickets are full of damaged carp
Yes, they would have a landing nets the size a small car and put the fish no in a keepnet, better put in a small lakes beside for the fish Will be comfortable. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Iv seen more damage done to fish with huge hooks and 12lb+ line dragging them in , match fishing takes finesse using small hooks ,thin lines and soft action rods or elastics lot less chance of damaging any fish
Big nets , carp slings ???? the smaller nets have nothing to with damaged fish , thats usually heavy lines and rods and bad angling or barbed hooks . the smaller nets mean the fish cant thrash about while being unhooked , therefore less stress and damage , everday's a school day
I've fished this venue well over 500 times over the years there is every chance I have caught all of those fish at some point :) I remember 3 of us on pond 4 each with over 200lb of fish including ide lol
Carp anglers = bait, cast and wait. Before the bivvy boys have a hissy fit, 99% of Carp anglers will take this approach, you all know it. 98% percent of those will then proceed to get stoned. 🤣

thanks Hishaam glad you liked it. yes we thought makins 1 would be the perfect place where both types of angler can make something of it
I fished lake 1 I think back in May, carp fished it and lost a Skimmer early on then had nothing all day until I switched to a 4ft zig and caught a 4lb Carp within seconds of casting out, didn't even put the rod down I just felt the rod pulling. I dare say you could bang a feeder out and bag a big un I have many times but for big carp obviously I prefer to use my carp gear.
Commented before the match started wish they both won Two top Angler's Both great guy's Now watch the video
That was an Amazing video. Love the edit on this. Are you making this a series?
not planned to harry but watch this space

Boddingtons would be another level venue
drayton was a big match venue a lot longer than a carp venue

Been waiting for this!!!! Come on lads!!!
👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍 super sympas petit concours 👍👍👏👏🇫🇷🇫🇷

Which reel is Ian using?
Great video, can you do another one on a specimen lake like FARLOWS etc.
Great video guys.....when's the rematch?
thanks. nothing planned yet but watch this space

Why the carp lads get 2 rods in these battles. As match anglers only can use 1 at a time. Already and unfair advantage
Andy makes things happen = Match Angling! Ian baits stands and waits for something to happen = Big Carp Angling! Match Fishing will always Win IMHO 👍🎣🐟😃

I'm sure it was you 🤔🤔

:) yes it does suit the match angler more. it was difficult to find a venue where both can succeed

Fishing is just the best thing in the world.
Need to do it on a normal pond that dont see much fishing pressure on a low stock venue then youll see whats best

Great video guys but get your sound guy to watch his levels, a lot of clipping on the mics.
Missed a trick there with the name! "Battle of the balds"
as predicted, Mr. May wins the day..
Makins - everything I don't want from a day's fishing.
How can it be a fair match when the carp angler always uses 2 rods to the match anglers 1 ?
It's alright they need all the advantage they can get...
I thought exactly the same, perhaps Ian's weight could be halved or Andy's could be doubled.

@@c0n0rr0b So going by what you say then there's no point to the challenge as the question has been answered, Carp vs match = match.
Agreed.
any fish species should count , this competition is not fair
Done both completely dif fishing can't compare them really.
❤this thanks 🎣😁
Nice one
Wow I fished there as a 12yr old when there was but 2 lakes. Pulled out tons of mini carp at my feet while old boys blanked 10 feet out. Bugger all trees there was then, don't recognise the place at all
its matured a lot for sure
Great 👍👍👍👍
Great video.
thanks colin
Well done Andy and Ian. That was fucking brilliant. I love those matches they get me really excited. 👍🎣💪🏻
1 rod vs 2 Rods hmmm don’t seem fair to me
was useing 3 rods at times
I use both methods and most of the time i catch more fish with the math but the big carp come with the carpmethod
Fshing 2 rods unlike andy mays 1 hahahaha ...

if you watch he was useing 3 rods at some points
Andy Andy Andyyyy May,, now i will watch it..lol
The carp fisherman should have to kiss the Bream if he loses🤣
26:00 Does Rob get away with a fart?
Get a bigger net. Think its shameful the size of nets match Anglers use. Constantly see the carp all folded up in a tiny net and then dropped into a keepnet with dozens of others. Ridiculous. No wonder so many day tickets are full of damaged carp

Andy may. #machine.
Match fishing is course fishing. And carp are a course species.
I've fished this venue well over 500 times over the years there is every chance I have caught all of those fish at some point :) I remember 3 of us on pond 4 each with over 200lb of fish including ide lol
Carp vs match but only carp count,,,,, so not carp vs true match then really, still enjoyed it though
Sry lure angling is the best, only wild venues.
always the same.fish on a match lake and the bream basher wins
Carp anglers = bait, cast and wait.
Before the bivvy boys have a hissy fit, 99% of Carp anglers will take this approach, you all know it.
98% percent of those will then proceed to get stoned. 🤣
Medel lol
Match fishermen are so weird
Carp fishing is so boring
