For those who don't get it (took me a long time) basically the straight part of the design is made by laying both sides of the lace, like first you pull once of the laces straight across and it should go into the hole where the other side of the lace should already be, then over that you have to do the same thing to the other side, so both of them should go in a straight line and be on the other side, then pull them under the straight line, cross, and repeat (idk if its a good explanation but hope this helps a lil)
