    Having gone through Basic Training in 1972, I can say that the standards for fitness are much higher accross stamina, strength, endurance, agility, confidence and most of all, tempered by teamwork. Back then we used to say that the fitness tests favoured the 'Racing Snakes' - not now. Well done the British Army. Better late than never.

    • @LeonTrotsky6782

      Absolutely, we wore plimsolls, the fitness training was primitive & seriously abysmal. Really impressed by the standards these days & the squaddie awareness of things like core strength etc,etc.

      None of these could yomp or tab across the Falklands carrying a GPMG after drinking ditch water for a week and living under a poncho.
      Our forces are not a soggy patch on the 50s 90s army .

    Spent all my adult life in the military, enjoyed the swim test, BFT, CFT, PT sessions were pretty easy as I did a lot of sport. However I think there should be a set circuit that focuses on body strengthening, with that everyone could remember or given scores to beat for next time, these should be done at least twice a week. Serving in an Armd Regt is physical hard work every day, few ppl go to the gym in own time, most would rather go for a beer. I know times have changed, however some units have more time to spare, for this kind of training than others.

    • @Fabziy
      @Fabziy  5 лет назад +7

      Totally agree, good idea! There has been a shift in the PT programme to focus on strength & conditioning

      @@aidhanroberts9028 That it though, the problem isn’t the standards set - It’s the discipline of the soldiers coming through. We always managed to have a few bevies and a good time, but always got through the fitness tests.

    i dont get how soldiers can be so fit with so little muscle, even that instructor only has a little muscle.

    • @openmusic3904
      @openmusic3904 4 года назад +3

      I suppose it is about the quality of the muscle also. You could have very large muscles, but they are not very efficient. Or you could have smaller ones that are far more efficient. It's the same reason people say body builders actually make poorer athletes than more compact men and women.

    • @georgewaterson7583
      @georgewaterson7583 4 года назад +1

      You don’t need a lot of muscle to be fit

    • @JammyDodger45
      @JammyDodger45 3 года назад +3

      Huge muscles take a lot of fuel to supply and sleep to repair add to that you've got to 'carry' the weight and it just isn't any good for soldier fitness. Lean, endurance based efficiency is the key.
