Yes, Povlsen is going to rebuild Hadrians wall, call is "Danevirke" after the original wall in northern Germany, and declare Scotland the subject of "Danelaw" and part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
Now the Scots get to be part of the EU again.
Long live King Canu'ehhhm... Povlsen the Great!
I can hear the rumble of angry voices already!

Didn't hear of Povlsen, I have the same ambitions just like him. Create a fortune to apply towards philanthropic work. I had lost a wife due to cancer, and our ambition to start a family died with her. Since I have no children, my focus is on my nieces and nephew. And on saving homes from foreclosure for working, and middle class families. Not purchasing, paying off the mortgage and leaving the property to the families.

Very sorry for your loss. My own life has it's tragedies. My focus is on my 3 nieces and nephew as well. And my meaning in life is from my volunteer work from the heart. I heard someone prominent asked the question if he now felt happy from all his achievements in helping others. With tears in his eyes, he said he had found, not happiness, but something better, deeper: meaning.

As a former employé at Bestseller and having contact to most of the family Povlsen several times, all i can say that they have my deepest respect. Completly down to earth and friendly.
I know of more stories on this family, but out of respect i'll keep it to myself.
Working at the headquarter of Bestseller was a great experience for me. The working spirit is just fantastic, and to have on your resume that you worked at Bestseller is a plus.

There was an amusing piece in a TV show following Police in the Highlands a couple of years ago. A couple of young cops pulled over an unassuming VW SUV for speeding through a village. Turned out the driver was Povlsen out and about on his own. He politely accepted the ticket and went on his way. No doubt a good story back at the station. Occurred to me you wouldn’t find a super rich American, Indian or Gulf state bigwig travelling without security or a chauffeur.

I don't know him personally but if he has invested in Scotland then I can only admire and congratulate him. Like many before him, we need private individuals with philanthropic ideas to support dying rural communities. The UK and Scottish Governments have basically turned a blind eye to our rural economy and our traditional way of life. We should commend people like Anders. I admire his re-planting ethos unlike the previous Forestry Commission now Forest and land Scotland, who have systematically decimated Scotland's Forest cover and fauna. This quango has not been brought to task for the environmental impact and devastation its causing. Complete hipocracy of the Scottish governments climate change policy for us mere mortals.

Being a Dane I do know of Povlsen. He is not super famous in Danmark, but in the business-community most know of him.
Another very interesting Danish family is the Møller-Maersk who owns and operates the largest shipping company globally: MAERSK LINE. MAERSK is more than 100 years old, and is connected all over the would. One MAERSK company, MAERSK Tankers, transports the vast majority of fuel and energy for the US navy, airforce and army, by operating a global supply-organisation securing fuel/energy for the US DOD globally.
One more…the owner of LEGO is also Danish: The Kirk family!

One formative anecdote missing here is that when he was young he went on a business trip with his father to India local gangsters tried to kidnap him, but mistook him and grabbed another young family friend instead who was I believe later freed by India SWAT team this combined with another attempted kidnapping by a former disgruntled employee who had broken into their family home while they slept is supposedly the explanation why the whole family for many years not only took on private security but also became notoriously shy about coming out into the media and why so very few pictures exists of himself and the family - notice how almost all the pics of him in this video are press release photos from his recent later years. Also he is a nice humble guy who also actively cultivates this image and atleast used to regularly go to the canteen and stand in line with everyone else …

I live on NE Scotland, 20 years of that on the edge of the Cairngorms National park. Polvsen is doing this the right way, it is not up to Polvsen to change Scottish land ownership and reform it, that is the job of government. However, he has gone about things the right way and best way he can with being sympathetic to those in the local area. He will clearly be involved with Cairngorms connect and other rewilding groups. Paul Lister from the IMF business has done what Polvsen is doing already, except Paul wants to fence his property off and introduce predators, which is more controversial. Both these land owners have the right idea though and more people of wealth like them are required for change to happen. Parcelling land off to local land ownership may be worse, the first thing the locals will do is dump even more sheep and increase deer for shooting because this appears to be the only revenue avenue for them, this will cause untold damage and is partly the cause of the degredation. A lot of local groups can and do great environmental work, a woodland restoration group in the borders are a great example of that. But my experience of the Highlands is a very Victorian tweedy mindset and mentality, especially the game keeper shooting set. These are the people that Cairngorms Connect, Trees for life, Polvsen and Lister will be up against. These guys have made a living for generations serving large shooting estates in the Victorian land management style of keeping deer and grouse high and everything else down. Other Scottish eatates do a good job with land management like Glen Tannar, others have terrible land management with absent land owners.

I have no problem with wealthy people as such but there's a hell of a difference between people showcasing decadence vs people actually infusing their business with environmental and philanthropic goals! It is indeed amazing that the business model is based on having manufacturing in Asian countries where you pay a worker a few dollars per day resulting in a production cost of a T shirt to 50 cents which can be sold for 20-30 dollars in Povlsen' s shops. Same as H&M and others. If workers would be paid reasonable there would be no money for Scottish castles!!!

There would be plenty of money for scottish castles, even if the poor asian workershould have a decent wage. The profit may drop from 48 dollars to 45 dollars, but I’m sure that Povlsen wouldn’t go hungry to bed. Even if it wouldn’t do any damage.
