  • It's 2021 and Carbon fiber rims are officially a thing in freestyle BMX but they are very expensive, more than 4x the price of the conventional metal BMX rims but they are nearly half the weight of the old rims, are they worth it? Today Matty tests the carbon rims by putting them through a tough test at the skatepark and tries his best to destroy them! Did he succeed? You'll have to watch and find out what happens!

    Scotty talk to your people maybe try a polyethylene rim. Firm,flexable hard plastic.at 1/4 inch would be very strong,does have memory..They're used for gas lines,etc..pressure proof. non corrosive or cracking.might be heavier I dunno but might be a revolution rim? Dunno,if it is you'll be a billionaire and I expect a shout out lol.if not be cool to see Matty or Cory test them out..

    Did you actually weigh the wheels? My friend spent big dollars to get SuperCross carbon fiber rims for his race bike... The Alienation aluminum hoops he had before, were lighter...He is the ultimate weight weenie and his XXL Carbon fiber SuperCross comes in at 14.75 pounds.. it's an amazing bike, it feels as though it will accelerate right out from under you. If it isnt carbon fiber, its Titanium or aluminum... makes my 19 pound 125r feel like a tank

  • @bimmix2054
    @bimmix2054 3 года назад

    I think they're stronger than aluminum. My only concern is spokes pulling through over time. Cf does wear down when abrased. Don't know how much turning nips and clacking on flat it will like

    Hey Scotty, can you use cush core with this set- up to help “reinforce” the carbon?

    • @unluckymirror1
      @unluckymirror1 3 года назад +2

      Using a cushion inside the tyre negates the effect of reducing rotational mass, so no.

    • @chowly
      @chowly 3 года назад

      Additionally the purpose of Cush Core is to run low pressure on, under 30psi on mountain bikes in order to maintain grip pedaling up rocks and roots. Most BMXers will ride well over 30, often 60-90psi.

    Close, it's not gyroscopic force... it's angular momentum

    I always doubted the strength of carbon rims until I watched the video of Danny Macaskill riding down a bunch of stairs with no tires.
