Tidbits from barrington levy's "murderer", damian marleys "welcome to jamrock" and dr.dre's "the next episode" and ini kamozes "world a music (out in the streets they call it merther)" that is a sample on welcome to jamrock in there. Filmed on August 8th in Los Angeles. Fun fact: "Merther" is basically the term for listening to reggae while smoking weed. The "merging" of it. Just loved it very much. Oh and also: There is a version of "murderer" from barrington levy featuring none other than rakim himself. AND it came out on the birthday of hip hop. Which makes the dre bit even more significant. Also because LA. :D
I knew I recognized half a dozen other songs in there that no reactors noticed (several noticed Dre, but none of the others). Thanks for confirming I wasn’t that crazy, lol
Ren was asking for other artists and/or reactors to talk to live on Twitch, so I suggested you, along with a few others. But I really enjoy your Ren reactions and think it would be fun to see you have a little back and forth. Go to his community page and nominate yourself!

Ren got number 1 in the UK album charts last night. For an independent artist, it's an incredible achievement. Add in all the health issues and obstacles he faces, and it's just beyond amazing. There is a video of him finding out which made me cry with joy. I'll find the link and send it in a reply. I'm so proud of him and the global community(RENagades) he's managed to cultivate. I love seeing you love Ren. Thank you for reacting to him. I love this version especially with those little additions: blip blip blip... And that bluesy guitar solo! There was a nod to a famous West Coast rapper... Dr Dre and more. However, I still think the original is magnificent. We are so blessed to have Ren
It is LA. He made this a few days ago. I love the fact that when he does these unplugged versions he changes the style of them so much they stand as tracks on their own, I can't wait for Thursday when he drops Love Music Pt 4... Subbed cus your reactions are great
Ren is all about sharing love and I love the way you grab a huge chunk of it! This is such an uplifting performance witnessing his immense skills. Can't wait for the album! Perfect reaction.
It makes my day to watch you react to a Ren song! You can see how much be just loves music in everything he does. How many people would see/hear the original Murderer video and think, I know, let’s make that into an acoustic version?! I can’t even get started on your pop music comments as I’ll rant forever, but you’re exactly right. Take care!
Brilliant reaction video, again,. The thing with Ren is he is a true, natural, LIVE performer. His songs are sensational because they require an uninhibited interaction between performer and audience for maximum effect. This is why almost all his video's are shot in a totally organic way. Never losing that " personal connection " between Ren and every single one of us. It always feels like he is singing to us directly ... because he actually is. This skill can only be achieved, and perfectly honed, via years of " busking ", which is the ultimate way of a performer connecting his / her message with their audience. I totally agree with you, this version is eons ahead of the recorded version ( which I also enjoyed but find a lot more " predictable " and " industry friendly " Reni s a BARDCORE, FUNKY PUNK JAZZ- MASTER 🙏
It was so much fun watching you on this reaction. I agree that music can be therapy - just listening to it, and especially playing/singing. Ren himself has said that his music helps him, and especially helped him when he was sickest. On learning the guitar, keep in mind that he's been playing for over 20 years so be patient with your own progress in learning. See you again!
The thing about playing guitar, or any musical instrument, is that the act of playing does something healthy to your brain. It's the kind of workout that the brain likes. So don't fret over skills ;) they'll come, just make tooling around on the guitar a daily occurrence and you'll be amazed at how good it'll make you feel, regardless of whether you're as technically adept as anyone else. And yeah, this version is fire. I especially love the melodic and well timed shout out to Dre.
Look at Ren in Cali living the good life lol..this is when he's doing his best work IMO. When he puts something with an acoustic guitar he never misses, and you'll learn it. Takes a lot of time tho, I started at 13 and by the time I was 20 that's when I actually could say I knew what I was doing lol. Get the basic scales down and chords, and focus on finger placement. Very important, takes a while for hands to get guitar strong
I feel like going unplugged on these very energetic/powerful or in this case even agressive tracks provides such an interesting contrast that if done well it actually brings out the themes in a song. My favorite example (besides Rem, obviously) are Yellowcard’s Breathing or Ocean Avenue which are like completely different songs in acoustic as opposed to the originals

As usual, I loved your reaction. The new live acoustic version of “Murderer” is incredible and my favorite of the two, and The LA skyline at dusk looks beautiful. I recently learned that “Murderer was actually written and recorded before “Hi Ren.” Marty DeHart (@Parula06) shared that the live acoustic performance was shot in LA a couple of days before its release, but the original video was shot in Brighton in the Spring of 2022. The song, apart from the original melody and lyrics, gives a nod to Barrington Levy’s "Murderer," Damian Marley’s "Welcome to Jamrock," Dr.Dre's "The Next Episode," and Ini Kamoze’s "World A Music,” with some Sublime vibes in the mix, yet, the song is unmistakably a Ren original. They would all show up, as fans, at each others gigs and would often be asked up on stage to play one of their songs at each others performances. This led them to getting together, to rehearse and play a set of songs by each member with all the others as their band members (? I hope that makes sense ) They first appeared at a Scottish music festival and the organiser asked what they were called. They didn't even have a name, so he said " Well I have to put you on the bill as something, so Gav said " We are Anderson, McGinty, Webster, ward & Fisher ... so that was what they went out under for, what they assumed was just going to be a few gigs.
