The only thing I’m sure of is that Kaytranada (and other producers I’m sure, pls recommend!) is the closest thing the 2020s has to Timbaland and the Neptunes, and he deserves to be as huge as they are.
I’m the same age as you Prof, so I’m definitely here for new music that harks back to past era-defining sounds, but also bring something new ❤
I really appreciate your videos and wish there were more youtubers reviewing albums critically with your level of sophistication, hell I wish there youtubers who just paid closer attention to the lyrics. Can you please please do a video on Lupe Fiasco's Testsuo and Youth. Loved your Billy Woods Aethiopes video and Testsuo and Youth is one of those deep layered album's.
Agreed, this kind of analysis is so important
Back when he was still Kaytradamus, he made a rap album called Les Filles du Roi with rapper Robert Nelson (who appeared on the Hull album, I believe that you enjoyed his verse). Fun relic from Kaytra's early days.
I feel you! I had the same issue categorizing Kaytranada as I did when I listened to Flying Lotus's music for the first time!, AAVA
professor, the opening lyric on out of luck is "can't afford ya", not california lol. nevertheless i loved your analysis on kaytra's style, AAVA
AVAA but it's quite egotistical to call your review timeless already
It’s a word play because the name of the album is timeless. Goofy ahh
@@ComptonFunk tbh I was joking around myself, I apologise that it wasn't obvious
Whooosh
AVAA I think that quality of Kaytranada’s drums that make them unique is the same element that Dilla utilized, the sextuplet swing. Quest love talks about it because it’s really hard to play live
AVAA
Prof, you gotta check out the new Shrapknel album. You might remember them from their features in Woods/Segal's Maps and Blockhead's The Aux. Not only one of the best Hip Hop albums of the year so far, but also sooo right up your alley (I mean c'mon, it even has features by Open Mike Eagle and Elucid)
The drums are his own stacks and drop sets and he uses time era like star wars backwards so if i do it 10 years and drop it now the urban vibe mismatching time so ear is like tripped in time drums
Lupe pressure used that back to the future use of mis matches of time and space with sound
Yo Professor!!! Lucki is dropping Gemini tonight, id love a breakdown of that if you found it worth covering.
Love your videos ❤ greetings from germany
Professor Skye I would love to see your scholarly analysis of Lupe Fiasco's albums Tetsuo & Youth and Drogas Wave
AVAA currently reading Dilla Time, nice to see it referenced. Review the new "Little Miss Echo" 💚 you will love it and they deserve some attention
AAVA. Hip-Hop heads know that Pressure also uses the same sample as Lupe Fiasco and JAY-Z's Pressure!
Omg ! Yay!
Your channel really grew on me.
AVAA, kaytranada in the hall of fame of french canadian artists
AAVA. I wish Kaytranada cut some of the filler off his albums and brought more out of his features performances. Drip sweat would fit perfectly on the kaytramine tape last year and I think amine would’ve given a more animated performance for such a moving beat. As someone’s who’s been a fan of kaytramine since the early beat tapes, I’m still waiting for him to drop a focused album with performances that match how great his production is.
Ngl I think of Kaytra more like Neptunes than Dilla. Knxwledge of Nxworries makes me think of Dilla in this current age of producers.
Can you do Blonde by frank ocean next?
Please check out the new Lil B album next, The Book of Flame.
I need him to check out his Jazz album "Afrikantis"
That shits like 50 songs 😭
AVAA. I have been bibing and vopping since it came out.
Oh you’re good
womp womp, it's an awesome video as always and now you're getting it in both comment sections, AVAA
AVAA!
what are you gonna do
Sorry if it feels spammy but there's this really really really underrated EP called Babaganush by a Brazilian underground rapper named Yung Vegan, he's a true intelectual, splicing artistic references and making commentary on art and society in his rap, it's not really conscious rap but it's something similar
He got more famous recently for his newest album Fetiche but Babaganush is probably his lyrical masterpiece, It's only 12 minutes long but I for sure listened to it for hours on loop and I still find myself thinking about the lyrics, It's the type of thing I personally think you'd enjoy by how you interact with music and lyrics
unfortunately since he's a very underrated artist, a couple songs don't have any english translations out there but I'd be more than glad to translate the two songs myself (I have experience with translating The Boondocks comics to Brazilian Portuguese) if needed
Whole house listening to same things 3 generations same genre
Timeless is timeless
Listening to the album I actually thought "Kaytranada is like Kurtis Mantronix, 2.0"
Day 312 of Asking you to Review Achilles Come Down by Gang of Youth
avaa
Avaa.
Dont insult Dilla like that
