    My 2009 Jeep Patriot had an intermittent issue with AC. It works sometimes and once it works all time during that day and next day when cold start AC doesn't work. After I cleaned all chasis ground connections and battery terminals then AC worked again but next day it didn't work again. I scanned and found these 3 codes appeared at the same time P2020,P0647,and P0032. I didn't know all these components share the same ground ( because no schematics). I'm the original owner of this car and found out that this model had many wiring problems at ground connections and TIPM module. Many thanks to The Flat rate Mechanic for posting this helpful video. I followed his advice and added a wire from chasis ground to white/black wire at same connector in this video and it works. No more intermittent AC problems and no more headaches!

    Thank you, have a 2008 Patriot (same thing) not sure I would have found the “common grid” without your research. Ended up being your second ground application at the C100 connector. Very helpful, saves the day!

      I have the p2010 and p0032 codes on my 2007 compass. I have ground at the connector but dont seem to have power. Do you know what color wires carry the power in that circuit? Fuses are all good.

    Thank you sir. Read codes on wifes 11 Compass and I thought no way these all go at once. Tried cleaning the first ground you tried and clearing DTCs and got same result. I, my wife, and our three year old girl said thank you sir.

    Customer came in with these exact same issues, I head scratched for a few and googled the codes which led me here. I fixed the issue and got a pat on the back, but really, it’s you that needs that pat, so thank you!

    If you look right in front of the battery on the radiator support there is a cluster of ground wires ,they may look ok but if you take them apart they come right out of the connectors, they do a bunch of functions, 02 sensors intake runners control, oil temp sensors and many others.

    I had the same issue. The miracle liquid Deoxit d5. it gets in where the wires come into the connector and disolves all the green and no need to splice anything. Did all my grounds. No more odd random issues

      I love deoxit but my friends compass had at least 6 broken grounds across the connections so I ended up soldering in some more wire and recrimping half of them.

    Thank you so much. Had poor acceleration in the 09' Caliber at certain ranges (i.e. 70-80km/hr) and the p2010 code. Snipped that black and white wire and connected it to that ground screw - code gone; acceleration back to normal. Idiotically replaced spark plugs, ignition coils, throttle body, intake runner control valve, air filter, ... before buying a code reader lol.

      Yep, I had 8 fault codes on my 2010 Patriot after I fixed the corroded grounds. I've had a lot of issues over the past few months because I wasn't taking my OBD2 scanner and clearing out the fault codes after putting new parts on my Patriot, or after fixing all the bad grounds...

  • @montydaniels1054
    @montydaniels1054 4 года назад

    @The Flat Rate Mechanic. Before I start, I am sorry for such a long comment but I wanted to give you some of the background with the issues . **The Vehicle: 2010 Jeep Patriot.** The check engine light has always been on since I bought the Patriot a year ago October 2019, plus the instrument panel always looked like a christmas tree with all red light that would come on when I started the vehicle. Here's the list of lights that were always on: Air Bag, Brake, ESP, ABS, Traction Control, Stability Control, 4WD! + Check Engine Light.
    The Air Bag quit coming on after I unplugged & then plugged in the passenger side front seat power harness..... What a strange vehicle.....
    If you haven't worked on a Jeep Patriot or the Compass, Chrysler Engineers put a relay box down about eye level with the bottom of the front bumper. The relay at the rear of the box had some corrosion in the wiring, so the previous owner or their mechanic pulled the wires out & took the relay and wired it up directly. The person didn't use the correct size connectors so 2 were loose and 1 wasn't even on the relay. I fixed that. Then I noticed that there were 3 grounding pigtails in the engine compartment. 2 in front of the battery on the front clip and the 3rd grounding pigtail is bolted on the lower body at the lower right front of the engine pulleys. That one had 3 out of the 8 ground wires corroded so bad they were not making contact. I took all 3 pigtails off, removed every ground wire, snipped the ends, stripped off enough insulation so I could get them to fit back into the connector. Bolted the pigtails back up but forgot to do this. Clear the codes before starting the vehicle. I ended up with 8 fault codes, whereas before I did any of the work, the only thing was the check engine light and the fault was the o2 sensor, bank 1 before the cat. So far after starting the vehicle 4 or 5 times, the check engine light is still off and I have no codes as of right now. But I suspect that within the next 2 or 3 starts, the check engine light will probably come back on since I still may have a bad o2 sensor. If no check engine light comes on then I lucked out. Oh yeah, I forgot. The horn stopped working after I replaced the ''Shifter Bushing'' at the ''Shifter end of the transmission shift cable lol. The electronics & wiring on Jeep Patriots are a complete joke....
    The following issue used to be worse, which was the 4wd warning light was on all the time but after unplugging various wiring harnesses, then plugging them back in, that warning light does the following.
    The ''4WD! Warning Light'' comes on after every start but ''Only after I drive over 1 mile'' so as you probably know, that issue will not allow the 4WD to work. Since I fixed the 3 grounding pigtails issue, the engine runs very smooth, the cvt transmission shifts correctly but there's a slight whining from the trans. I am getting ready to change both trans filters and adding fresh fluid because I know it's overdue.

    This is an extremely helpful video. I have a 2010 Patriot throwing p2010 and p0032 dtc's. I don't have P0647, however my AC stopped working as soon as I got the two codes. I started by cleaning up the G110 ground and that didn't work, I saw this video and was going to try grounding the C100 connector black/white wire, but my connector doesn't look the same. I cannot find the wiring diagram anywhere showing the C100 pinout. I have a connector I believe is the C100 positioned in the same spot next to the box you show there with a black/white wire in it (that wire currently does not have continuity to ground) and the mating connector kind of follows the fender and goes behind the back of the box. What are the chances it's the same wire? I'm nervous grounding it out without knowing if it's actually supposed to be. Any ideas?

    Solved the DTC codes on a 07 Jeep Compass 4x4. In another video, I learned of a bad ground to the brake fluid (black/white wire) sensor causing the brake light on the dashboard to stay on. Two ground faults thus far.

    So I cleaned the ground you showed first. Replaced the lightbulb and pigtail and also the TIPM but my passenger headlight still won’t work at all. Any suggestions?

  • @manthing351
    @manthing351 4 года назад

    Those “2” grounds are actually a bunch of smaller gauge wires mashed together, if you separate them and give each wire an eyelet and re attach you’ll find a host of electrical ghosts from the headlights to the wipers and in between will magically go away!

    Awesome worked! I changed the parts instead of researching more then came upon this video I reached the wires without having to disconnect anything I stripped the black/white wire connected it to ground & cleared the codes & bam all good & working! Can’t thank you enough you saved me time money & effort. Only issue I’m having not is the brake light on the dashboard stays on I’ve checked the emergency brake & that’s working fine could it be another grounding issue? If so where can I find the harness to test or even do the same kind of trick? Thanks in advanced

    • @FlatRateMechanic
      @FlatRateMechanic  5 лет назад

      I would check the brake fluid level switch first.

    • @JAYJAY1787
      @JAYJAY1787 5 лет назад

      The Flat Rate Mechanic okay I need to purchase a voltage meter, I do see the sensor/switch , I do also see it’s connected to the same c100 cable if the ground turns out to not be working so I do the same wire connection setup? This time instead of doing it from the engine side it’s the opposite side or do I make the connection from the brake level sensor ground wire

    • @montydaniels1054
      @montydaniels1054 4 года назад

      @Issac.J . On my 2010 Patriot, the grounding pigtail to the body to the front side of the engine pulleys fixed the brake light being on most of the time and it fixed the right headlight that stopped working....

  • @fisqual
    @fisqual 3 года назад +1

    It's not just the contacts where the terminals meet the body it's the wires going into the terminals. I cut them off, solder an extra few inches of wire onto it and re-crimp it with a few separate connectors instead of one bigass one that's gonna cause strain on the harness. Chrysler really did a piss poor job building these cars.

    Hi when these codes come up is it a common issue for the car to start bogging down when driving and will not let you drive past 30mph and starts going to 20 and 10mph and acts like it will die out while driving. This happened to me while driving my moms car very scary. 2 codes come up P2010 and P0032. We just replaced the intake manifold control valve and it didn't fix the issue. Is it common for the car to do this when this is the issue? TIA

    2010 jeep patriot when first purchased car had voltage light come on while driving car would go into limp mode and die completely. Turns out needed a more powerful alternator had it replaced and problem gone....1 year later had battery light come on checked terminals for corrosion and fuse box.for shorts....after parking overnight had to jumo car to start and brought to autozone mechanic said battery no good ...purchased new battery good for 3 or 4 days and car again had battery light come on and limp.mode then die. Brought car to mechanic and replaced alternator again. After replacing alternator the compressor went same day so brought car to dealership. They replaced the ac compressor and checked the alternator car was ok. 1 week later car had battery light come on again and died again. Figured the first battery was bad and the second battery was ruined while it died twice and alternator replaced so now I am on my third battery and 10 min after having it replaced the battery light came on again so brought car home and parked it b4 draining the battery , I am at a lose what the hell do I do now!?
