As a stargrinder, I totally agree with this. Good gameplay is super important, especially in easier levels. Having to go to practice mode on anything below 7* just feels wrong, but unfortunately some creators still force me to do it
Thats different for stargrinders, im not one and i dont mind doing dsome levels below 7* in practice mode, i take alot of time playing levels. still makes gameplay subjective

This video was truly amazing, I enjoyed every part in it and I’m not even joking. The facts you used about gameplay are well explained and that’s what I really like about this video. Good job Samifying!
There's one extra thought i had which i wanna share: Keep in mind that the gameplay is supposed to be decorated.
It's good to remember that the gameplay itself does not need to be a visual masterpiece as long as it is fun and flows nicely, since at the end of the day it's the deco which is truly the most important aspect of the visuals.
I see a lot of gameplay creators in megacollabs especially who seem to just focus on how the gameplay holds up on its own visually, which really isn't that important when the part is decorated and someone is actually playing it.
Basically just don't get carried away with visuals if it gets in the way of fun gameplay.
Another great vid by the way! I'd always recommend this series to anyone who wants to start creating
Sami, you are legitimately one of the best gameplay (and decoration ofc) creators out there and I hope this video inspires more creators to make more unique and fun gameplay.
I'm so glad you made the comment at 11:20 because so many people I've seen make this mistake and it really makes me angry that people don't realise this. Even big creators do this and it makes later parts in the level slightly out of sync. I've always known this and I've literally never seen anybody else even realise that its a problem. Hopefully more people start doing this because of your video.
A lot of people will love to see your channel, considering a lot of people (like me) are having trouble creating satisfying levels and you seem to be the perfect kind of person who can guide and help them make good levels!

Building a level is very complex to explain, and you managed to do it in a very concrete way, very cool video.

Gameplay tips I guess:
1. make sure you go through the middle of portals
2. Scale portals to 0.80 and 0.50 (big portals are ugly lol)
3. Make sure the camera doesn't move too much or make it move in a way where you can still see the gameplay coming
Also there is a discord server called gameplay academy. It helps with making gameplay a lot

edit: I just implemented the tips about sync lines and copy paste of speed orbs in my level im creating now and holy shit my game play is 100000x more fun for me to play now! thenk you. btw im DangerZ on GD :)

Im amazed I haven't found this channel sooner. As a pertinent star grinder myself (literally like 4000 stars) and extreme demon beater myself (hardest demon is Jawbreaker) and talented creator myself (exactly 0 CP) I can safely say wtf am I doing not watching this channel. Great content

you can also just use a follow y trigger, saves a few objects. if you dont want the portal to actually move, you can make an invisible copy of the speed portal, and make that follow y.

I kinda like making gameplay than decorating, there are a lot of good songs out there to choose like Newgrounds, Spotify, Sound cloud etc. So that's why I like making gameplay :)

Layout style. Yes it means a lot for decorators when they making deco on your part. One of the mistakes is making layout very empty
It makes it ugly. Layout made without blocks. Why?!
A few tips from me here!
- When making gameplay, be sure to not feel like you're not good enough. Because if you do, you wouldn't want to do anymore of it and your skills will go nowhere.
- Also, don't feel sad when you think your gameplay feels repetitive. You can go up and down and you feel like it's all the same, but trust me, *don't care if it's too repetitive,* and just make sure you make fun and good gameplay to your tastes x)

For GP, you want to balance orbs and structure you jump on aswell. Its super importent to do that to make it more easier to deco.

I just wanted to clarify something:
Memory demons are NOT supposed to hide what killed you. If you're making a memory demon, the "No invisible umff things ruleTM" still applies. Memory demons should challenge the player to memorize the gameplay of the level, but I doubt someone would find easy to memorize something that he can't see.
To make a stupid example, think about the beginning of Back on Track, when the jump pad shoots you into the spikes: that's a memory part. To overcome you have to memorize it, but there is no mistake about what killed you. Building a memory demon is all about doing that, but a lot more.
Having the player memorize what kills you and what doesn't is a memory demon. Having the player memorize the gameplay because it's invisible, that's a luck demon.
By the way, I'm sure you knew what you were talking about and you prababily just misexplained it because you wanted to get that out of the way. Loved the video, keep it up :D
I agree with what you say!!
I just mentioned "memory demons" because I knew I would get some people angry when I said "You should never hide what kils you". I am well aware there's tons of memory demons that aren't focused on making it hard to see what killed you!
Everyone can do whatever they want to as long as they are having fun. The point of this video was just to show people simple things they can do or focus on to make people enjoy basic gameplay.
There's tons of ways to do gameplay and there's always gonna be loads of exceptions to the things i say! Thats why I really want to be clear that these videos are only guidance videos no rule books :D

I think that deco is the most difficult thing to do well.I mean, gameplay it's very important too and this is a fantastic guide but personally I never struggled with gameplay and sync, I enjoy my levels. So will you make a video of how to deco?

The thing is my block design is so over the place and complicated if i made a video about it you guys would feel like you're watching an hour long fever dream :(
