He did have surgery, but his voice has significantly declined in power over the years. It is normal wear and tear, along with age. Will never sound like he did 2001-2010.
A lot of people think the nose job he had did it to his voice as well. I am not sure what that does to someone's voice specifically, but Chad started sounding different during the Here and Now tour (and since then) than he had during the one prior. I do agree with the age and wear and tear, those are certainly factors as well.
His nose doesn't contribute to the difference in sound, necessarily. The sound is produced from your vocal cords, and even though he had a minor surgery, this would not affect the sound produced by his vocal cords. He has changed his vocal style over the years to add some vibrato and I believe whatever technique or coach he is utilizing has contributed to his technique, changing his sound to a more nasal resonating tone. That is what you are hearing. I hear it too. All and all, he is a good singer, but def lost the edge in his tone.
