firemires03 All of the inflight video (both of the tail views, and the cockpit) was provided by them. The exterior video of the plane taxiing away, taking off, and landing, was taken by my wife as she stodd on the observation deck. I merged the videos together on a Mac using iMovie. The inflight video angle is controlled by the instructor pilot, so if you want a particular shot, let him know. I let him know I was going to do my 2 tributes on take off and after landing, so he switched the camera shot. The DVR only records one angle at a time, according to the switch position that he controls. Once the flight is finished, they will give you a DVD of the entire video they captured. I opted for the mini-DV tape that is the actual recording media, instead of the DVD. Have a blast on your flight, and let me know how it goes!
firemires03 When they provide you the DVD, you will have to "rip" the DVD to your computer. There are several programs that will do that for you - I prefer the program called Format Factory that will grab the video from the DVD and make a file on your computer. If you search Google for how to rip a DVD, there are millions of tips available. Once you have the file on your disk drive, you will be able to upload it to RUclips. I wanted more on my video than just the raw footage, so I used iMovie on the Mac to snip & clip, plus put the titles and transitions on my video. The other thing is you will want to cut out the "in between" portions, like when you are flying from the airport out to the restricted area southwest of the airport and back. The run-up of the P-51 is pretty extensive and takes about 10 minutes, which I also cut out of my video. These portions of the video are a little boring to watch (not boring for you, though - you're flying a Mustang for Pete's sake!). Is there anything you'd like to know about the flight? As a flight instructor, I was able to do everything except for the takeoff and initial climb out. There is a lot going on during the flight, so the more you know, the better the experience!
samlatpcs I can't fly solo yet so they probably won't let me do as much huh? I've always wanted to be a pilot and I'm finally in a position to make it happen (long story). I'm a little obsessed with the p51 so i thought this would be an epic 30th birthday present for myself. Any insider info you have would be great. My email is krystle.mires@yahoo.com if you dont want to keep blowing up your video comments.
That should be me in the cockpit.looks real fun.I enjoyed the video
Great instructor....
Wow, that looked like so much fun!
My dad flew P51D Mustangs in WW2. This is what I would have been like for him.
