As a mortician... I can assure you that this was not easy to do and it's expensive. The time it would take and the careful handling of everything from start to finish. Well done. I've done something like this twice here in America... the families were being true to their native customs. Being respectful and learning about other customs and cultures is always a wonderful thing to me.

This is probably what he wanted, many don't want to be viewed laying and people looking down at them. I have seen them displayed on their motorcycle, car, rocking chair and standing. As you can tell it's a lot to handle for the family and yet they honored their love one last wish. After reading most of these comments, I am wondering, who's really being disrespectful here? This family is grieving, show some compassion.

First of all, save your negative comments. This is in another country and this is a part of their culture and customs. This sort of practice dates back hundreds of years where villagers would present the deceased in a one last time fashion as a gift to the Gods. The only difference between what you and they do is that instead of laying down, they’d like to see their loved one standing up. Are you all seriously complaining because the body positioning is at a 90 degree angle difference than what you are used to? Knock it off. Respect the way other cultures honor their deceased. Many people may think burning the body of your loved one to ashes is bizarre, yet it is normalized in American culture. Stop being ethically ignorant.

This is a tradition. If someone died and they were born somewhere else, they had to take them through to that city for everyone to see them before they buried them the next day. And if they have a spouse in that spouse, die. They have two nights to sleep with them in there home in a casket 😩 It's no way, but that's how you know how much they love and respect each other. However, to most of them from that time period, the death picture may be the only photo of their loved one, was from the funeral.

Puerto Rico is known for arranging extraordinarily bizarre funeral services like this. With the deceased on motorcycle’s, playing dominos, sitting as if chilling, you name it. Still not something I’d want to encounter but hey to each is own.
This is not Culture, this is personal preference by the family or the deceased before they passed. Many go over the top when a loved one dies, but probably didn't show them a quarter of that devotion when they were alive.

Do a little research and you’ll find that this is how some people do it in other cultures. And the deceased (many times) even specify their exact wishes to be embalmed like this.

I remember one of our teachers who was laid in state like this. I didn’t sleep the whole night. Seeing him like that haunted me for days. Not disrespecting others culture though. Speaking from my experience.
