I agree with your review. It's my favorite of 2020 so far. I've logged 22 plays of it so far. I don't always score great because I'm exploring what works and what doesn't. I find that I tend to do best when I can get 3 decent to good decrees, or get my buildings out and score the Osiris area and temple well, or when I go hard on god statues for actions that are being used a lot. Thanks for the great videos!
I absolutely love this game, its been a while since I played a heavy euro and for the next couple of days I kept thinking about it. I do however agree with your decree card comments and I do think it will be hard to ignore them completely and actually win the game. Oh I have to say the word Papyrus because I know Sunniva cannot hear that word without laughing haha.... Great review keep up the excellent work :)
Papyrus 🥳 Yeah, we’ll see! Someone is probably gonna come up with some strategies without decree cards in the future, but end game scoring is usually pretty good to go for! Glad you liked the video 😀 That makes us happy!
Thank you Bill! That makes me very happy to hear! Loads of more games to cover until the end of the year, so there is a possibility that more videos are coming as well 😂
Great review! Love the game as well - lengthening the 2p game with an extra scoring has worked well for us to give a bit more time to fill spaces out and not rush strategies. YMMV!
I am really looking forward to playing my copy. We haven't had a lot of opportunities and usually we go for slightly easier games. But it's on my shelf and hopefully on the table soon!
@@BoardGamingRamblings Thanks, My group doesn't always want to learn new games and with covid getting together is tricky as it is, but I'll suggest it for sure!
I loved this game after first playthru. The only negative point for me after that play is where I was sitting at the table. If you're seeing the board upside down, then it's quite difficult to see the cards. So you constantly have to ask what they are :-D But other than that, it's a perfect game!!
Really, really like this one. 4 solo plays and two games at 3 players. I like this the best of the "T" games (haven't played Trismegistus) by quite a bit. The game is always over too quick! I want 20-24 actions! :)

In Trismegistus, worst case scenario you only get 9 main actions(in reality you get close to ~20) :) But i think its on level of Castles of Burgundy, Troyes, Marco polo etc. I think Trismegistus is the thinkiest dice game i have ever played. Me and my wife really like it a lot. Just make sure to read FAQ and official errata on bgg before you play. Rulebook does have some major errors(incorrect setup and number of dice in game per player etc). Even heavy cardboard made few mistakes and one huge one, having co-designer in the chatroom :D
I think it’s the perfect amount of actions! I love tight games, where every action counts so much! I’m also pretty sure the game would have been way too long, as others are saying! Glad they trimmed it down!
So we need dice and big obelisks to get 9's out of you? Noted for future designs that will never come to be! :P The decree cards do hurt this a bit though. If one person manages to score 3 decree cards they usually win outright. Meaning that everyone ideally needs to get their happiness up to bare minimum green if not blue to take them down.
Dice drafting is good! A big obelisk, more neutral to that 🤪 Yeah, it can seem like the decrees are very good, but hey, end game scoring is usually a good thing to go for! Someone is gonna come with strategies without decree cards that can win, I am pretty sure, but if a great card comes up, it would make sense to take it, if you’re happy enough 🥳
Experienced players should be balancing the decree cards by ensuring that high happiness dice are highly contested, as well as high value dice for Anubis actions. Letting one person run away with happiness and card choice shouldn’t be happening with experienced players.
There are other high dice still useful though and you can't give a free pass newbie you believe that people should play a certain way. What about the countless times you have to teach the game? And what if people don't want to follow a linear formula like say Puerto Rico?
The Broken Meeple Im not following the comment (typos?), but I think most well-balanced games are balanced by presupposing experienced players who understand the roads to victory and can counteract each other with that knowledge. When I teach games I make sure newbies understand the powerful actions and are aware of what they need to do to prevent a runaway leader. That’s part of a good teach. And actually the better rule books these days are including tips/comments on strategy (I think Viscounts did this).
Great review!! Looking forward to play this game!!

So many great videos lately! (And I really want to play this game - haven't picked it up yet)

Thank you Sven! I like that the game is super tight, but I can understand it at the 2p count! 😀
Couldn’t agree more! An EXCELLENT game and my fav of the year so far (but still have to play Tawantinsuyu).
Glad to hear you like it :D We also wait to play Tawantinsuyu, hopefully it will be coming this week!

Hope you’ll get to play it soon! It’s so good :D

Just telling the truth! 🤪

You just have to be like me, and always play upside down! Then nothing is a problem upside down 🤪

the original version had three Maat phases and took one hour short of an eternity. be careful what you wish for. ;)

"Beige is the color of my life ". Spoken by a true eurogamer haha
Oh yes 🥳
I love it but my girlfriend doesn't :(
Easy fix there my friend :)
Sad to hear that, Jimmy! Hope she get’s around to it, or if not, you’ll find something else you can enjoy together :D
@@BoardGamingRamblings Sure ! She loves plenty of other games. She just find Tekhenu too convoluted.
