The alliance and war early in the game was a historical event that was part of the period of turmoil known as the Boxer Rebellion. As the story goes, Boxer rebels sieged down the Legation Quarter of Beijing, as it offered shelter to Chinese Christians (Boxers were very anti-Christian due to foreign-enforced concessions towards that demographic) and foreigners, and this prompted the formation of an incredibly rare informal alliance between almost all European empires (Britain, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Russia) plus Japan and the USA (thus the "Eight Nation Alliance") to put a stop to the siege, as all powers had vested interests in rescuing those being besieged. The siege lasted 55 days, and is the subject of a notorious multilingual song known as "55 Days in Peking" as well as a film. The rebellion, however, lasted longer - from 1899 (so it was already ongoing at the start of the game) until 1901.

Each episode could be from one start-date to the other, but the country with all your choices and wars "carries over" to the next start date. :) Keep being awesome!
I found this start date very interesting! Its really cool to see all the earlier events in history that arent in basic hoi4. I really liked this video!
Oh this mod, I almost became a dev of the mod when it was still small until I realized I had no actual time I could give to devving. Haven't played it in a while but I remember the people who worked on the mod were all very welcoming
Fact: If you put Kaiser Franz Joseph I next to Kaiser Wilhelm I, they both seem to have nearly the exact same beard. Wilhelm's sideburns and mustache aren't as thick as those from Franz Joseph though.

I don't know what "Spooky" is about, but Rise of Nations is a beautiful RTS game, and this mod has used it's logo. I had to mention in case you don't know because I love Rise of Nations. Not the mod I mean the game.
i was playing a run with the German Reich starting 1910, turned socialist and was delivering friendship to the whole european continent until 1955. Now all are friends in europe.
Do this start date again but with a minor nation. I of course suggest my home country of Denmark, but something like Greece or Romania would also suffice :) Would give more gameplay and less steam-rolling early on :)
