To me, this game's bow is the best and most satisfying in the franchise. I see you spent the first moments of the hunt targeting his dorsal fin, a part that's very hard for blademasters to break. Also, it feels really good to see someone just walk-dodge the most linear attacks, like the tail uppercut or the big slam, all while charging a shot.
I really like old-school MH bow, so I'm with you on this. :) Every bow having a power-shot follow up, yet still needing to charge up for volleys is exactly how I like it. Those walking-while-charging-dodges are so cool to find in a matchup!
@RistrettoMH World had that ""problem"" where the most damaging bow playstyle was to NOT charge your volleys so you could fire more power shots faster. Then Rise had that damaging evasion, which rewarded you for always staying close to the monster, and that was stronger than the other option (charging step) Don't get me wrong, i DO find both these versions of bow enjoyable to play, but i'm also glad that Wilds introduced things like the tracer and the focus strike, which encourage you to charge your arrows and also not be so close to the monster all the time.
I feel similarly, where I actually think it's cool how World & Rise's bow play... I just miss old bow, too. Makes me wish there was a "light-bow" and a "heavy-bow" (shortbow/longbow?) with the two different playstyles. I haven't paid much attention to what Wild's bow changes are like yet. Maybe that'll be a neat mixture of the two.
I recently shared with Anné what this is a reference to (that old comment on my last channel), and have subsequently considered getting that OG comment tattooed. It makes me crack up every time I think of it.
I just made some elemental sets last night to go with Bow, and there are certainly quite a few skills you'd want "ideally." Was pretty tricky to fit in almost anything useful on low-rank mixed sets.
Just personal preference, on all three - ultimately I’m hunting to have a good time and not necessarily to finish things as fast as possible (I respect those who do speedrun, though). I’ve always liked avoiding MDJ since stamina management is a pretty “core” part of the combat and game in MH. Not having to watch & manage my stamina would take away some of the fun/challenge of playing bow for me. As for Guild style & no arts, I’ve been sticking with that setup for all of my current GU playthrough so far because I’m curious how the game’s progression, hyper monsters, deviant monsters, and other G-rank hunts will feel like without the boosts that arts and styles bring. I’ll probably “branch out” and start trying more of those once I’m grinding things in G-rank, though (where some variety will be very welcome).

@@RistrettoMH A functional and harmonious mix of the two is exactly what bow needs.
The most clean hunt i've ever seen
A big brilliant quest

I almost built a bow set when I was playing GU regularly. But I was waiting on the right talisman

12:56 was this supposed to be a backstep ? madlad lol
Heh, I tried a few times to back-step the sweeping beam. Don't think I landed it on any of my Mizu bow hunts so far.
Why guild style?
Why no mdj? No arts as well?
This is confusing.
