"I want nothing left to the enemy." It's strange that Hitler thought the enemy was going to take Germany like spoils of conquest. Granted, it was reasonable to expect Stalin to do that. But that didn't happen. The US spent billions on Europe to help them rebuild.
The Russians did take Germany. That's what East Germany was. They also looted tons of art and gold. It was a running inside joke between Zhukov and the rest of his military staff about how much German Artworks they looted.
If you read Hitler's transcripts (Hitler and His Generals book), his assumption was that the Germans would be destroyed, and Germany would no longer exist
Well, Russian film director Alexander Sokurov made an art-house film about Hitler. All the Russian actors were dubbed by German actors, with Russian voice-over.

I agree that Downfall is much much better overall. It's still marvellous to see Anthony Hopkins playing that role back in 1981. The only thing that bothers me in Downfall is that the accounts of Hanna Reitch were not included in Downfall, but she and Greim had a more sombre perspective of reality entering the bunker and seeing how detached the individuals there were from reality, then what is made out in the film Downfall, where she is presented like a Führer cheerleader.
@JimmySmers Then read the memoirs comparatively, weather they were Nazi loyalists or not. Especially suggest the memoirs of one Albert Speer (very self serving and selective compilation). It is a pity that Speer's "viewpoint" seemed to get quite a weight in the movie Downfall. And just to add to that comparison, then the technical history book "The Rocket and the Reich: Peenemünde and the Coming of the Ballistic Missile Era" by Neufeld is a sobering read and therefor a must.
