    Yes Chrysler and other manufactures that use ZF transmissions doesn't have a service interval on the transmission because if you do nothing to the transmission it will last past the warranty period that they give you. The issue is that the company ZF who builds and also designed these transmissions say these transmissions should be serviced 8 years or 50,000 miles which ever comes first. No transmission fluid not even the best and most expensive ones will last forever. So I would think some kind of service (even just fluid) would be better than no service.

I told her when she wanted to buy this car we would be spending lots of time together on keeping this car going. Well now we are having the transmission rebuilt by a good transmission friend of mine. She was driving and it went completely out. It wont stay in park, it rolls, grinding through any gears. Any more info or tips on the rebuild of them if you know would be great for any owner! This is what I would do if I bought a used vehicle with this transmission. I would pick a trans up from a salvage yard 20,000-40,000 miles if I plan on keeping the vehicle 5-10 years. Now, you can change the valve body, filter, torque converter and all seals as the years go by. You pay for used trans up front you way ahead of the game. Oh, change the sensors you ready like new.

    Hey buddy, just want to say thank you for the video. It was very informative being that you are a tech at the dealership I have a 2015, Chrysler 200 with the nine speed V6 all-wheel-drive platform and I’m experiencing a noise that sounds like a wheel bearing that is intermittent coming from the front right side. It seems to be some thing that is very noticeable when the transmission is warmed up as opposed to the first 15 minutes of driving is there a bearing that is anywhere accessible that can be changed by pulling the front drive axle out or is there a bearing inside the actual transmission that goes bad on these things. My car has 85,000 miles and has been very well taken care of the sound. I am referring to is very similar to that of a wheel bearing noise that comes from A worn out wheel bearing , but I have pretty much ruled that out given the fact that the noise doesn’t go away if I turn the wheel in the opposite direction, taking the load off the right or left side, The same goes for the front as well. It just has that metal on metal sound that is similar to Worn out brake pads against a rotor, but I have new brakes all the way around any input would be grateful. Thank you very much.

    If you should not change the fluid why is the fluid black and burnt at 40,000 miles. Transmission now only last 60k if you do not service it and putting the filter inside the transmission case makes sure you do not change the filter. But now 2022 Chrysler vans tells you to change the transmission filter at 60,000 miles and it takes 14 hours to R&R transmission. Do not buy a New Chrysler with 60k on it unless they did the 60k service. It will cost you $3000 to try to save a transmission from premature failure. That explains why the dealer refuses to do a trans service on our 2015 200S AWD.

    The same ZF 9 speed is fitted to European diesel Honda C-RV and Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport. No need to change filters in most modern transmissions. If the filter is blocked enough to restrict oil flow, then the transmission is past its best and something will have failed inside.
    As far as changing fluid goes, my own C-RV is now subject to a service campaign to actually change the fluid as soon as possible. Mine is a 2015 build with only 45,000 miles on the clock. No towing. It does 'moan' a bit in certain gears at cool oil temperature in certain gears and it will be interesting to hear whether this quietens after a fluid change. It's not loud now by any means, but it is somewhat noticeable.
    By the way, it is an exceptionally nice gearbox with great change characteristics, especially for downhill engine braking, in the C-RV. Apparently this is not always the case in Cherokee or early installations in LR and RR models. I cannot fault it.

    “Lifetime" ATF means usually it lasts 100.000-120.000 miles and then you change it and the transmission. Sad things changing the filter is that complicated.

    "Lifetime", is BULLSHIT! Don't fall for it. Life of what? Back in 2004, I paid CAN $1000 for the LIFETIME protection package/rustproofing, and a new Chevy Malibu Maxx LT. I had LIFETIME protection for rust. If my car rusted out, I believed I would have the rust repaired. I had all my documents. At about the 10 year mark, the paint was peeling around the wheels, and the metal was rusting. I tried to get them to honour that clause. I called the dealer I bought the car from, and I was a ghost to them...they had no record of me (they throw stuff out after so many years). I contacted the insurance company on the documents, and they explained to me, that "lifetime" only meant 7 years. Only 7? That's life? For what....a squirrel? This was not written anywhere in my documents. So the lifetime of the transmission oil may only be about 5 years....right when your car warranty is over. Tell me this....do you believe the dealer when they tell you you can go 10 000 miles before you have to change your engine oil? There are RUclips videos showing gummed up engines because people believed that crap.....and the car is past warranty when the engine fails.

    Well if I'm going to pullbtge trans then I am going to replacevtge whole dam unit. Even if its been hot either that or change fluid before it get dirty. And keep it going as long as possible. Tgats a shame I think you could get alot more miles than if it could be changed out maybe change fluid every 50k and replace the trans when it gives problems. Wow.

      lol,,they make a filter, just not sure if they sell it by itself..I see them in the repair kit when we use to go inside to do recalls...They almost got a handle on them now..Most of the problems was on the early built units..Lots of improvements since then.

    From what I hear they expect the transmission to last 100k then you replace the whole thing. So for life is about 100k lol

      @googleuser8448 3 года назад +2

      @@OnlineMechanicTips they say its a lifetime fluid, then you ask what is the warranty on the transmission. Its 60,000. Thats the lifetime there talking about. So as with almost all synthetic transmission fluid every manufacturer recommends it to be changed at 60,000 miles. Im not talking about the filter. Just the fluid. You can call up every manufacturer that makes trans fluid and other oils and they will tell you the synthetic trans fluid only lasts about 60,000. So are are correct about how hard it seems to make a lifetime fluid.

    • @googleuser8448
      @googleuser8448 3 года назад

      @@OnlineMechanicTips they cant make it last your lifetime, just the designed lifetime of the transmission. Now most will get over 60,000 miles though.
