Linux is free and way better, windows cost huge money but still is shit. that's why I say, always support by donating to open-source software. For those of you wondering why your FOLDER isn't OPENING when you type in the password
IF you use " the spacebar " in your password on the .txt file while creating your .bat file,
Make sure you do not use " the spacebar ", when typing your password in ON the cmd console.
For example, If your password was " Job 9999 " on the .txt file, It should be " Job9999 " on the console.
I didn't know that, and I save the password with spacebar what should I do now. Please help me.

Could the batch script be modified so that it can create the private folder elsewhere on the harddrive and auto-open it when the password is entered, then auto-close it when the user locks it again? That way, the .bat file can be anywhere and not be visually associated with the location of the private folder.

type Attrib +h +s +r yourfilename in cmd and file will not show up and when you want to see type Attrib -h -s -r yourfilename in cmd
I realized that after you create the bat file you can preview the context in preview mode File Explorer. So the pass word can be found from there....

Good tips. The password is still exposed as the batch file is visible.
One thing we can do is, mark the .bat file as hidden from the file properties, and uncheck 'Hidden' in the Folder View menu to hide the batch file itself.
So, both the batch file and the private folder will become invisible.
Not a 100% safer approach though, but to some extent.

you could also uncheck the "Details pane" in the Folder View Menu.

still not safe.right click the bat.file and select edit.the password u set is already expose.
How do you relock the folders? After clicking and entering "y" in command prompt it unlocked, but when I closed the folder, it opened without asking me for the password. Same thing when I did a restart; folder opened up without a password.
You'll have to click back on the text document you made and it will launch the prompt asking you to lock. It doesn't auto lock

new "private" folder within your designated folder you wanted to lock disappears when locked and reapers when unlocked with your password. Before you lock any folder you can test it first by locking and then unlocking to ensure it reappears before putting any of your data in the new private folder. Works very well.

you can recover your Files by going to File Options > View > Uncheck Hide System Protected Files and you can see all your files : This is misleading information it hides the folder not lock it. Be careful !

Actually if someone go to the folder option and show's the hidden folders it well show actually the bat file you made is hidden the folder not locked the folder. Its better to deny all permission in security tab

Cool, this is a good idea. But unfortunately these files are still not hidden. I searched up the keywords to the name of the file [via quick search with the windows-key] that was supposedly locked, and I was still able to access it with a single keystroke when it popped up.
True, I just did this and it popped up with access, no password requested to open folder. Someone would have to know the folder name, but even a single letter typed into the windows search bar and this will most likely reveal any files with that related letter.

You can right-click the .bat file and select edit. The notepad document will appear and you can change the password again and access the files.
Save your folder name as well as file name as virus, no one will open 😂

Great Video But a little bit misleading as per the title given in the video : you can recover/see your Files by going to File Options > View > Uncheck Hide System Protected Files and you can see all your files without any password : This is misleading information it hides the folder not lock it.

I used this script for a few years with no problem until one day I went to lock it and the console flashes for a second and nothing happens. Tested it with a few different variations of the same script in a new folder, same thing happens and no folder is created. Anyone know what could have caused this?
If you "type 1==1 (any command)" it will execute the command if 1 equals 1. And that's mostly the case so you can type "1==1 goto Unlock" and it will bring you to the Unlock-section. Thats why you should use a number-pin and the choice command. And you can also download a compiler that turns it into a .exe file, so you a´can't edit it. Hope I could help you! ☺

@@badza_3542 That is possible too, but I took 'q' to query (enter) 'h' to help and 'r' to reset. So you have to sacrifice some letters (or maybe symbols) that can't be used in the combination, as you need them as shortcuts.

The "simpler" way (go into folder properties and check the "encrypt" option works better and easier but it is not available for Windows Home edition. This one really works on any edition. Thanks.

If you have deleted the Bat File you can recover your Files by going to File Options > View > Uncheck Hide System Protected Files and you can see all your files : This is misleading information it hides the folder not lock it.
Just use command prompt, its just hidden not deleted
go to recycle bin. I'm sure its there. files deleted usually end up there unless you deleted it permanently in the recycle bin. files on external drive like flash drive or external HDD are not included.

I've tried this setup but the encryption is not working well on windows 10 pro laptop. the encryted file is accessible through "search panel" even though it was encrypted.
e.g. when i type letter "a" the file which start's with "a" also appear.
sometimes the content in the folder would be deleted. so it's better to back it up somewhere else as well.

it fails in one case:
press windows+s from keyboard and type the name of folder you just locked
just click on that folder and boom->you can access it even after being locked so it's not reliable
if you have a preview on you can also read the code and password if you are smart enough ! any other solution mate ?
The .bat is corrupted for me meaning that none of the passwords i set it to work now. I have important files in there, is there a possible way of me getting into the folder now without losing those files?

what if you add it in a winrar file and password protect that, and then open the cmd by winrar ?
From someone who forgot their password, bless you! Also locking computer files is a lot like locking a toolbox in a fab shop. If someone wants to get access to your stuff, they will. The lock is just an obstacle to make them think twice, lol

The file I hid is missing from the folder neither can I access the bat file. I know the exact name of the video file, I searched it in Run and Command prompt, it says 'is not recognised as an internal or external command, openable program or batch file. Can you please help me find it.
Today when I opened the file it was missing from the hidden file. And yes I checked the show hidden folder tab from view.
This video is really helpful but, when I put something in the "private" folder and then type "y" in the other folder, the private folder doesnt hide. However, when I remove the folder which I added in the private folder, and then try to hide it then it works. If thats how it works then whats the point!

you can actually leave a blank password field. Then no one will know your password, but if they write something, the files will be displayed

Bugs in code:
1. If the stored files in that folder are searched then it appears in search results.
2. If after locking people can still delete the bat fine, thus your files will be gone forever.
Plus if you go and right click on the bat file and click on edit you can see the password too.!
My case is little different. My files all are now hidden but can't unhide it now. Even after double clicking .bat file, password cmd box ain't coming.
Don't know what to do too see my files.

You can hide the "bat" file in a drive, by doing these steps:
1-Select the files or folders you want to hide.
2-Right-click and choose Properties.
3-Click the General tab.
4-Click the checkbox next to Hidden in the Attributes section.
5-Click Apply.

My Guy! You are so right. This method don't do much at all. If someone wants to play around in your drive and sees a .bat file they can easily figure out what your password is. Why cant we just have a pw protect on a folder like we can on an excel file? ow i know how to get into some ones hidden file even without the password for the .bat file..

when I allow cmd to lock my device using the Y command my private folder is renamed with something control panel and then lots of character and not only this the files and the folder is accessible without the password. If anyone else faced the same issue and solved it please let me know how?

But it seems that with the .bat file locked, if I r/click on it and change the extension back to .txt I can then open the file and see the password!!! Doesn't seem very secure if you know what a .bat file is there for.

Hold my beer: all you need is set up "show hidden files and folders" in system parameters! All data stay unprotected with this script, he just rename folder and hide it!
